The longer and more gradual of a turn the less efficiency loss in the fitting. These add up for your pool when you need a dozen or more of them. This is why it is important to choose the correct fittings for plumbing your pool which is a sweep elbow, ideally, when you have the space to facilitate using it. When you are tight for space then the short radius 90 is definitely acceptable to use.
