What is a super cyclone and how did Amphan form? 

I was missing the India TV animation. The anchor would have been on the top of cyclone :D

I'm listening to this at my house. It has almost been a few hours that the storm made landfall and impacted our district. Our house is entirely flooded. Areca nut tree in our house has been uprooted. My dist North 24 parganas along with south 24 pgs and east midnapore is devastated. The city of kolkata is ravaged. Electricity is gone for almost 9 hrs or so (very unlikely to come any sooner than maybe a day or two since news of transformers uprooted and transmission lines torn apart are emerging). Luckily there is cell tower available here. I am 24, and i have seen storms earlier like the ones of bulbul, ayela, fani but this one surpasses it all. The extent of damage is unfathomable right now. Only the morning sun will reveal the true extent of the destruction.

3:45 spinning starts bcoz f coriolis not by the virtue of wind itself. The wind is present because of pressure difference. Wind itself is nothing but movement of air. This movement of air then tilts from its normal course of direction and starts spinning because of coriolis. Since coriolis is minimal in equator we dont see cyclonic wind movements there. Had the spinning was because of wind itself then we should had cyclonic movements in equator too. Thank you... ( pls take this positively)😇

Just one suggestion for science edition that you may take 15 to 20 minutes but there is need to further simplification of few technical things like What is Corolisis Force and etc. I'm quite sure science edition will be also hit with these type of presentational quality. According to my knowledge, the term 'explosive cyclogenesis' is broadly used for extra tropical cyclones and for tropical cyclones 'rapid intensification' is the appropriate term.

I am from New Delhi. I have been watching this video with intense interest. Ms Sandha Ramesh's interpretation was absorbing and points were discussed in a professional way. As a layman, I have some queries which may seem to be apparently amateurish. Yet, I would request for an expert answer. Can a cyclone be destroyed in its initial stage of formation or can the 'eye' of the storm be deflected/destroyed to eliminate the killer effect?

If anyone wants to experience how to successfully manage cyclone almost every 2 year pack your trips for Odisha. I assure you not only govt. Machinery is prepared but people are so... Just as japan for Tsunami...

Fani should have been classified as a super cyclone, as at peak it was having all the characteristics of a category 5, and most cat 5 storms are classified super cyclones. If this had been done than last year would have been the only year with two super cyclonic storm, kyarr in the Arabian sea, and fani in the bay of Bengal, and amphan wouldn't have been the first super cyclone in the bay of Bengal in 20 years
