Has your student worked with a reading or a math interventionist, been to an Explora Night, or participated in an after-school program? Then your APS student likely attends a Title I school.
The Title I team creates and supports programs in every Title I school to help your students learn. Title I funds can be used for classroom and family resources such as reading and math interventionists, additional staff to lower class size, classroom materials, staff training, and family outreach.
Title I schools choose what is best for their community and provide resources to families and students. Parent and family participation in the decision-making is at the center of the Title I programs at our schools, and that's why "WE NEED YOUR HELP!"

Thank you for making this video about title 1 schools, I didn't understand what this term meant prior to watching this.

Thank you for sharing 🤗 I just got a letter from my son's school, called title 1 for reading. He's in first grade but he was homeschooled for kindergarten and first grade, but he was way behind on his homeschooling so the school suggested he would come in person, Unfortunately they only have 30 days or less. Like I said I just got the paper and he does need help with reading, he never listened to me and I wish I can go back and make him go to school.

At APS we believe Every Day Matters. Just one day in a classroom can improve reading and social and emotional learning skills. In the classroom, you can connect with your child's teacher about specific resources that can support all types of learning. We wish you and your family the best!

@@APSFamiliesConnected thank you 🤗 I just spoke with the teacher yesterday afternoon, my son is behind and they really want to push him forward to second grade, I'm trying to help plus two other teachers take them out of the classroom to help him out. The teacher said in the summer keep at it, he's a smart kid but unfortunately 2 years has gone by and did not want to listen to me 🙆

@@teriandjacobsworld We are so happy to hear you are getting support from the school and your child's teachers. Keep at it over the summer and beyond!

@@APSFamiliesConnected absolutely!! Especially if they are pushing him into second grade, which I disagree. But she did say he has to do it all summer, it's just so hard because he doesn't want to listen to me, I might need a tutor.

This video is extremely helpful. Question: the autonomy expressed in this video leads me to believe that families and staff for all title 1 schools nationwide have this right. Is that correct? If so, is the education of this right the duty of each title 1 school? My kids have been in title 1 schools and I have never had the opportunity to vote on funding or new positions within their schools. Please advise.

Hi Tamra, I'm a teacher at a Title 1 school in California. The answer is yes, you are correct. Most schools have a School Site Council (SSC) that meets monthly to discuss budget decisions for the school site. You should be able to ask the front office of your child's school about when this council meets and be able to attend as they are open for parents. Thank you for being a parent who wants to be aware and involved with their children's education.

Where is the money going? Kids can't read, write and/or do Math.
