I’m still extremely lost. I’m pretty new to this whole streaming thing and everything sounds like a foreign language. I’m trying my hardest to understand. But I need something more simpler than this!😞

So I plan to get a webcam as well as a USB mic to record videos for youtube. I have downloaded OBS to my macbook. Do I need a capture card in order to record my audio and footage? and what is the benefit of using the capture card rather than directly plugging my mic and webcam into my macbook and recording using the OBS app?
@@courtneymayoshow Capture cards are generally used for devices that do not have an option for self recording (Wii, xbox 360, ps3) Newer generation consoles have these options but to have a higher quality stream or recording, its better to record remotely via capture card...Correct me if I'm wrong :)
ALl that's missing from this fine tutorial is advice on what video edit programs are compatible. Not all of us have OBS Studio. Some use ShotCut; some use Premiere Pro. Does either of those offer the ability to record the video stream being input?
First, thank you. Excellent non drawn out clear concise & edu. So let me see if I got this right? : All a capture card is a Digital Image converter to USB format for production processes?
Instead of using a computer to see the video from camera can you use the USB wire coming from camera and hooking that up to capture card and then use HDMI connection to the television and just change input source on television to view camera on TV?
This won't work for a couple reasons. 1. The USB output on most cameras is designed for data transfer, not for real-time video. 2. Capture cards are designed to take a video signal and feed it into a computer for processing or streaming. They are generally not designed to output a processed signal to a TV without the involvement of a computer. The HDMI port on most capture cards is for input, not for outputting video. If your goal is to avoid using a computer and just display the camera feed directly on a TV, your camera needs an HDMI output. Hope this helps.
What does it do? Can't I just record a video with my camera and then upload it to my computer? What does a capture card do? Is it just for live streaming? I still don't understand.
Hi, Yes, you can record with your camcorder since it probably has an SD or USB port for recording data too. However, folks using Pan, Tilt and Zoom live streaming cameras typically do not have these Hardware Drive ports as an option with Live Streaming PTZ cameras. So, to record video you will need to send the live stream to a computer that has Video Streaming Software via a convertor/capture device using a USB connection. As well, many live streams are using more than one camera, feeding all video to a switch or a couple of capture devices to switch camera angles. This cannot be accomplished with a USB drive or SD card that has been recorded on. Hope this helps! Thanks for the question!
@@BibleNutter Hi, this is a Pan, Tilt and Zoom camera that is mounted to a fixed location with optical zooms up to 75 feet away. Most folks will set up multiple cameras for broadcasting using a Video Switcher, Joystick controller and will incorporate an Audio Mixer in conjunction for the live stream show. PTZ cameras are use by folks looking to take their broadcast to the next level, beyond a simple hand held phones capability.
If I'm not mistaken, my church media dept was able connect a PTZ camera directly to a iMac via USB and it was recognized as a video device in OBS. Is this because the PTZ has an in-built capture card that allows it to be seen as a device?
USB is the connection you need, either by directly connecting it to the computer or converting another video signal into USB from outputs like HDMI and SDI. This is where the HDMI to USB convertor comes into play.
Hi Bro, i have standard ps4. During play time video quality is good. however when i record gameplay, recorded video quality is terrible. I have tried change settings without much luck. Will buying a capture card help improve quality in 4K? I will be grateful if you can help.
Hello Kanth, How are you recoding it now? The capture device is half the battle for recording good quality video . You will also require a Software Program to save the recordings or live stream. Try OBS Studios, its free and there is lots of info out there on how to stream and record using it. Where to buy - bzbgear.com/where-to-buy/ Thanks for watching and commenting!
I don't have a regular HDMI port on my Lenovo Ultrabook so bought a Vivitar to try to stream something I watch on facebook to my tv so it will be bigger but don't have a clue how.In over my head I think.
Hi Sara, yes, this device will convert your HDMI signal into a USB3.0 signal so you can stream by selecting the camera when making a video on RU-vid or Facebook. What type of camera do you have?
I have a 3gb ram potato pc and my recording sucks in both quality and fps will it help me to record in 720p60? And does it have a camera that records ur screen or it adds a kinda of temporary ram so it can record without lag and more quality?
Hello, it will record resolutions up to 1080P@60Hz, so 720P@60Hz will work too. There is no camera, this is for hooking cameras up to PC's or other video devices. It's purpose is to convert the HDMI signals to USB 3.0 signals for computers. The software being used to record is important as well, try OBS Studios, its free, there are tutorials online, but it's open source so there is no online support. Thanks for watching and commenting!
So you use this on a computer and connect it to a camera it becomes a web cam, and to edit etc you can do away with video editing software and use this instead?
Hi Keith, this device takes a "Source" AKA Camera with HDMI, Game System or Camcorder with HDMI output and converts the HDMI signal into a USB signal so you can capture the video and use a Software program to edit and record on. So you do still need a Software program of some sort. OBS Studios is free to download and works fine!
I want to connect a gaming console (a Switch, which has an HDMI output) to my laptop (which also has an HDMI output) in order to use my laptop like a monitor, but not necessarily record or stream anything. Will a capture card function as an HDMI input so that I can project an external device onto my laptop? Edit: if I can, is there a specific type of capture card I should use? Can you recommend me any? Because I'm extremely confused by the whole process and I doubt I'll be able to find the right device on my own
Hi Gabe, the capture card will indeed allow you to bring the signal into a computer but it's not exactly the same as a monitor. You will have to open the USB feed in a video player on your computer which could introduce latency. This would cause a lag from your control input to what you see displayed on screen. It will work in theory, but your mileage may vary based on the capabilities of your computer and the software you use to view with.
If my computer has an HDMI Port, do I even need this device? Is there any value to having this device if I can plug my Camera directly into my computer?
Hi Aaron, HDMI connections on computers are an OUTPUT only, you need to convert the HDMI incoming signal from the source to a USB signal for your computer to be able to receive the data, so yes you will need one of these guys if that's your end goal, streaming or recording. Give us a call or email and we would be glad to assist more! Thanks!
Hi Chloe, yes you can. T'he capture card has an HDMI port that will connect to your TV, and the USB port connects to your laptop. You'll be able to capture gameplay and edit the content on your laptop.
Will this be able to transmit live data for example from a laptop acting as a source to another laptop which hopefully will be able to act as a second screen/monitor using this kind of device ?
YYC, a capture card can transmit live data from a laptop acting as a source to another laptop, allowing the second laptop to act as a second screen or monitor. Good luck!
Nice video. Can I use this to record whatever is showing on my smart TV? Asking because there's time I have to work late at night and I miss certain shows and sport games
Hi, no, unfortunately, any movies or TV shows are copyright protected and HDMI prevents this type of recording. You can record Video Games and Video Camera footage though. "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a copy-protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of capturing digital content from the source to the display. It is designed to protect digital signals when using a Digital Video Interface (DVI) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface" Thanks for watching and commenting!
Does the HDMI BZB Capture Card actually have a USB 3.0 OUTPUT? I have no HDMI input on my computer so I MUST have a capture card that has a USB output.
Hi Adam, any time you have multiple cameras and are using a Capture Device you will need a Hardware Production Switcher before the Capture Device for choosing which camera is being streamed or viewed. This device does not do any type of replicating, it just converts HDMI or SDI video to USB for video capturing used by software programs. Thanks for commenting!
Hello, what are you trying to do with it? A capture device converts a HDMI signal to USB 3.0 so you can record on your computer. The only thing that would use Processing Speed is the Program you choose to record with. SO, find the least intensive software for recording video. Maybe VLC player would work! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Hello, devices vary as it pertains to there HDMI output amplification. Where one device may support the 50ft HDMI limitations, another device like a Video Switcher meant for a Rack may only support a distance of up to 25ft. Other than DVD players most devices are designed for shorter cable runs, typically under 25ft. Its our experience anything over 20ft may have signal issues. Another factor is the quality of the HDMI cable being installed. If you need to extend your signal you should consider an HDMI extender or Active HDMI cable designed for long distance runs. bzbgear.com/product/4k-18gbps-hdmi-extender-with-bi-directional-ir-and-zero-latency-up-to-70m/ bzbgear.com/product/bg-cab-ha-hdmi-2-0-18gbps-4k-active-optical-cable/ Thanks for commenting and visiting our channel!
If I wanted to record footage from a device that outputs video via component cables, could I not just get a component to HDMI adaptor and connect that to my laptops HDMI port, and record that with OBS? If not, why is a capture card necessary?
Hi, many people ask this question, but the simple answer is there is no HDMI input on a computer, only an Output. Other option is to install a PC capture Card for desktop computers. Thanks!
@@keithsamadhi3452 good question. I don't have answer, but I too have the same question and request some learned person to answer. can I directly give out of an external device (Set top box) to pc by connecting an HDMI-HDMI cable to set top box and to a HDMI-USB capture card?

Do you need a PC I've been trying to stream my Nintendo switch and I don't know if I should buy it because I don't know if you need a laptop or a computer
Hi Ky, ordinarily you would need a PC or laptop to connect a capture card to so that you can stream the source through a broadcasting software like OBS. That being said, we also offer solutions like our BG-HAVS which will stream directly from the capture card without the need of a computer.
Hi, no that is not the intended purpose, TVs are not computers as this device requires software on a PC or MAC to record it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yes, it's always a great idea to use a capture card for this scenario. This will work well with your Sony a6600, as long as it has an HDMI output. bzbgear.com/product/bg-cap-ha-usb-3-0-powered-hdmi-capture-device/

Could this be used to capture video from the computer, like RU-vid videos for example or Vimeo videos that i want to keep and store for example or am i needing something else to do this? Do i just need some kind of software instead for example and could you recommend some software for a PC that would do this.
Hi, Unfortunately, no. HDMI was developed to put an end to recording movies that are copyrighted so you cannot record them from an HDMI output. You can record a camera image or video game though. www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00028327#:~:text=High%2Dbandwidth%20Digital%20Content%20Protection%20(HDCP)%20is%20a%20copy,Definition%20Multimedia%20Interface%20(HDMI). so basically if you have or use usb camera that plug into your PC this is not needed? But if you use like a DSLR camera you would need it? Thanks in advance!
HI, this device works in conjunction with OBS and other Live Streaming programs. It converts HDMI to a USB signal for computers since they do not have HDMI Inputs. This way the camera or source will be selectable in the software program as a USB device. Thanks for watching!
Hi, DVDs are copyright protected, you cannot record them, and the HDMI cable does not permit the passing of the video signal. Sorry for the bad news, but you can record content that is not protected like cameras or video games.
HI J2, you should be able to use the USB cable, no converter required. See this link for more information. Thanks! gopro.com/en/us/news/how-to-use-gopro-for-webcam
Hi Keith, USB to HDMI works with compatible computers for Video, but not the other way around. Computer as the source to Display only. Thanks for asking and watching!
Hey Stone Cold, Yes. You can connect your game system to the capture card, HDMI from the game system to the capture card. Then use the HDMI loop output on the capture card to the display. Connect the Capture card to the computer using USB 3.0 cable. But, you will need to download a Software Control Program like OBS Studios to record the game play. Basically you need a software program to connect to the capture card for recording purposes. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@BZBTVchannel Thanks. Actually I just want to watch my Set Top Box output on my pc screen. I am currently doing that through a techcom TV tuner and watching that in honestech TVR or chrisTV lite. So it means no matter what my camera is able to shoot. Be it 1080p or 4k I will still need to use a capture card to plug in to the laptop/pc in order to have a htmi input from my camera?
Hi John, if you want any HDMI signal to work with your computer as a video input source, you will need to convert that HDMI signal to a USB signal since PC's and MAC's do not offer HDMI Inputs, only outputs. This is the only way other than adding a special HDMI PC card that attaches to the motherboard. Thanks for watching and commenting!
If my hdmi was broken could a capture card be plugged into the usb and act as a new hdmi port?& Would I be able to play through this like a new hdmi port?
No, a capture card converts signal from HDMI or SDI to USB. If your broken HDMI port is on a computer you can use a HDMI to USB Converter like this: bzbexpress.com/AT-HDPiX2-2ND-GENERATION-USB-TO-HDMI-CONVERTER-1080p-by-Atlona.html

Hi Andreas, To simplify this, all they do is convert an HDMI signal into a USB signal. Why? Because computers do not have HDMI inputs, only outputs. But they do have USB inputs bidirectional for video, audio, and control. Hope this helps, thanks for your input!
Hello, when using software like OBS Studios or vMix it's recommended to have at least an i5 Intel Processor or equivalent to ensure a smooth live stream. If your computer is older, it wil likely have issues supporting these tyeps of software porgrams. Thanks for the question and watching BZB TV!
Hi, its a converter for HDMI or SDI signals to USB. There is no HDMI input on your computer so if your trying to record from a HDMI source this is the preferred method. Thanks!
A capture card takes a video feed from one device (camera, game console) and transmit it through an HDMI or SDI cable to another device (laptop or PC) so that it can be encoded for playback, editing, or streaming. What are you trying to do?
For my needs you are going way too fast and skipping steps. This should not be about how fast you can do what you already know. If you intend to teach it should be you going slow and explaining every step.
Hi Jilla, yes you can, but you only really need a Software Program like OBS Studios. Capture Devices are for converting signals from HDMI to USB for computer software programs to record. Check out RU-vid videos on OBS Studios, but its very simple to set up and record, capture device is not required. Thanks for commenting!
