Thank you for this video! Saldā miegā means "In a sweet dream", I wish there was more Latvian in the song, but I like our entry this year. Sarauj Latvija 🇱🇻🥺

This is the best interpretation and explanation of this masterpiece. One of the best songs ever sent to ESC by anyone.

It's my top-1 song. Literally. The song touched me so much that I cried. And again - literally. Though there's no much drama in the lyrics, music or vocals - I somehow felt such an emotional wave... It totally knocked me out - even though I didn't understand the final words at first (I don't know Latvian). So yes, when I saw in which semi it will be presented, and which songs will neighbour it, I was sad. And even more sad because it's the semi that my country doesn't vote - so I won't be able to cheer my favourite song of this ESC even with the vote.

The funny thing about Aija is that despite it supposed to be a lullaby, it is actually the fastest song by BPM in this year’s roster.

It's not a lullaby to a child. It's to ourselves, to adults.

Yours is, by far, the best channel about Eurovision IMHO. Besides your English is a delight for me, a non English talking person: I understand everything ☺! Warm kudos for excellent work.

This is a quality song. Reminds me of the 90's to 2000's indie bands I listened to a lot. It probably won't qualify both because it's not a song that grabs your attention right away and because it's for a more fringe audience (I'm one of the "fringeys"). And most of all because of Semi 1. Very good analysis and lovely lyrics... The instrumentation is of high quality also.

This has to qualify, please. The juries might save this from bottom 5 if this scales through, sadly I don't think public would vote for this as much, but I think lyrically this is on par with Sweden.

I personally really love the last scene of the music video, it was very haunting, and i have my own intrepertation of it. Your intrepertation of the orange clothed people is his thoughts makes me think, maybe he's being forced to sleep, maybe he's taking a substance to do it, therefor his sleep doesn't come to him easily, hence being drowned.

It is very haunting and deep, especially when they cradle him with their bodies. I've never seen an image like that before, very powerful.

Great video! Keep doing amazing work. Latvia and Malta deserve a qualification, but it's unfortunate that they're in such a competitive semi.

Thank you for the analysis, I love your interpretation! This song is one of my biggest growers this year. The first time I heard it I didn't think much about it, but I really fell in love with it when the music video came out because it deepened the meaning and impact. They also had one of the cleanest performances at the Barcelona pre-party, and knowing that they're such good performers really makes me want to see them qualify.

Thank your for your informed explanation and interpretation of this masterpiece. I have just subscribed to your ESC channel which has become my favourite due to your ability to combine your appreciation and intricate knowledge of the contest's history and musical genres with a thoughtful, sensitive and always well-balanced approach. I'm so very happy to see many supporters of this song here on this channel. "Aija" has been my top-1 song from the moment I heard it for the first time. It touched me so deeply on an emotional level and resonates with me on so many layers. Your analyis of the song's lyrics, musical arrangement and video credited and paid tribute to the many facets of "Aija". It is an overwhelming experience which can only be described by an epiphany - an all-encompassing and almost religious moment of realization and revelation both unsettling and soothing my tortured soul. I.m.h.o. this entry is one of the best songs that has ever been sent to the ESC and I hope that it will qualify. The contest needs songs like this.

Great analysis. I agree. I think it's really great that the music, the melody, the lyrics, the cadence of his singing are all telling the same story..without the words you would still feel the ominous beginning and the more soothing end. And with just the words sung a capella you would also get that uneasy restless feeling. I feel this down to my core pouring into every fibre of my being. And this is going to sound weird accept maybe to those with the same weird brain as me 😂 but these anxious sounding songs with dark angsty lyrics actually calm me down. This song is way too good to remain in the semi..it has to qualify. Do you suppose that given the subject matter of their songs and because they are right next to eachother in the semi Serbia and Latvia might cancel eachother out? That just popped in my head as a possibility I hadn't considered before. Two bleak ominous songs back to back. Could that be too heavy hearted for casual viewers, with them ending both up with not enough votes to make it through? I hope not, I want them both in the final. Ahw crap now I am going to worry about that untill may. Great 😂
@eurovisionhistories
@eurovisionhistories Год назад
I think it is a possibility. And Serbia is just stronger when it comes to points they get more easily... So I think Latvia needs every single vote. But so many fans love it that I kind of hope it will do it.

So great to see your analysis! My first thought after watching the video was that the song is about Covid isolation and the longing for contacts. When he goes around in the circle with his hand touching the others and also when the others don't see him waving in front of their face it seems like he tries to reach out for them. Diodato did a very similar choreography in his fantastic SF performance of Fai Rumore, one of my all-time favourite intervals. I am quite sure the video was inspired by that. Instead of Covid it could also be about mental struggles that make you feel isolated and stuck in your mind. The video also has dystopian vibes to me like The Handmaid's Tale or Brave New World for example.

My interpretation for the music video is that the people wearing Orange are his thoughts as they look alienated and emotionless so it’s like as a result of all the horrible news and polarisation his thoughts are dead in a sense
