Volunteering can help. I’m an RSPCA Shelter officer for 9yrs now and a Council ranger. Having a Mechanical trade got me my jobs. I love working with animals. We deal with everything you mentioned. All animals react to situations exactly the same as we do, once you recognise the signs. Great video mate.
@@WingedHassar Sorry to hear that. I have been passed on a few times, I know how that feels. Keep an eye out for the next job opening. Good luck on the next application.
I'll be attending ACO courses this July here in NJ and will be moving to SC to help. Thank you for your videos and huge hearts for helping the worlds beautiful animals.
Hey there K9 catcher! Thank you for putting together a brief overview of what is expected I’m based in the LA area and wanted to know if you can link all the certificates posted and the humane society/college that you took these at? Thank you I know it is a lot but I’ve seen so many certificates and don’t know which places are the best and also officially recognized for animal control/humane officer standards here In California. Thank you bro!
Hi! I have updated the links in the video description. That will help guide you on the important classes. For California the Cal Animal courses and PC 832 will be your priority courses.
Most areas have some form of Animal Control. If it's not run by the local law enforcement agency, then it might be run by your local health department. What state and or county are you in?
Hey, My name is Sophia and I am about to go into a technical highschool and taking classes for Animal Biology and Criminology. My dream job is being an ACO, I have always loved animals and grew up with them. I wanted to be a cop but I knew I needed animals in my life... but I have started to doubt if I have what it takes. Any tips?
Hi Sophia, it's very common when you find something you are interested in to start doubting yourself if you can do it or not. To me that just shows me you really want to become an ACO. The best advice I can give you right now is to focus and enjoy your next years at high school. Make sure to stay out of trouble since you don't want anything on your record if you ever work for a Police department including your driving record. You are going in the right direction already learning about animal biology and criminology so take more classes like that as you can fit them into your schedule. You are already trying to plan for the future so you are already ahead of me when I was your age. Continue watching the videos as I put them out so they can hopefully answer some more of your questions as they come along. And feel free to reach out in the future too. Just don't overthink right now. I think you have what it takes to become one once you graduate. Also try looking for volunteer opportunities involving animals, but don't get discouraged if its hard to get into one since they may have minimum age requirements and/or Covid restrictions at this time. Good luck and enjoy your time at school.
Hey thanks for the question. I updated the notes in the description to include a site where you can take a sample test of what could be on a job assessment test.
Hello, I live on a one acre land, I have 4 dogs who aren’t bad dogs, they keep on property, bark when they see a stranger walking by or dog walkers. My issue is my neighbor up our hill, he has been threatening to call Animal Control because they bark at him on the rare occasion we ever see him tending to his chicken coop down the hill from his house which is up the hill from ours. He’s stating our dogs are a nuisance to his live stalk which is a complete lie, my dogs are 100% used to them, never bother them, bark etc. He has a goat as well who is in fact aggressive & fights with the our neighbors mastiff. What is a realistic outcome from this situation? We caught him driving to the front of our property today & taking pictures. Thank you
Hi, the first thing I would tell you is to look up your City or County municipal codes. They may have a specific section created just for barking dogs. This will give you the answer of what can be done in your area regarding barking dogs. Or you can call the Animal Control agency that services your area and speak with an Officer about barking dogs in your area. I have worked for different agencies and they all had different laws and procedures for handling a barking dog complaint. The outcome could be up to citations being issued for not correcting the problem or a letter in the mail saying your dogs are barking. Now most agencies that I have worked for did let the dog bark if it saw someone passing by or coming up to your door. Most places consider that normal dog behavior. But, the problem is if they are doing it excessively for no reason. That's the best answer I can give you with the limited information, but give your ACO's a call and/or email them so you can find out specifically what is done in your area. Also please be patient as most agencies are understaffed or depending on the size of your area may only have one Animal Control Officer handling the whole city by themselves. Thanks for the question and I hope your situation works out!
