I've been living in a Ger/ Yurt for about 6 years now! I was doing a documentary in Mongolia following Genghis Khans expansion of his territory, and we traveled extensively living in Gers for 30 months! They are easy to move & setup and summer or winter very comfortable! I'll never go back to a house!

Funny how things happen at the same time. Just this past week I was talking with long time friends who are semi-retiring from Chicago area and moving to north GA to be near their daughter's family. He searched through Appalachia and is excited about where they've bought about 12 acres because of both the abundance and quality of red clay in the area - or maybe the region - and something he called basswood trees (?). He's going to build with sustainability in mind, so sourcing more or less local is a goal. Not sure if he plans to use the clay as extensively as your folks' Earthen House, but he is certainly excited about using the wood all in his interior. Maybe this is a booming trend?
