What is an Information Techology Degree? I certainly wondered that as I was starting... I can shed some light on what you should expect. IT is a field many of us want to get into, but is it right for you?
Just subscribed! Your channel is so informative and is really getting me excited for my courses. I think this is the right path for me. Thank you so much!
I think the best analogy with tech is to be compared with the medical field. tech support = paramedic. IT Degree network, server operations or admin = nursing, IT Degree software developer = Medical Doctor, CS Degree This is not saying one is better than the other. Some people would prefer tech support over looking at code all day, even if the pay is lower. The most important factor is what makes you happy.
Thank you so so much for this! Was debating between the two and I like them both but I want to concentrate on Web Development and Communication software(s), and from past experience, programming doesn't bother me at all, although it requires a lot of time and practice. All in all, I feel like IT is more flexible, while Computer Science is more concentrated, so I opted for IT. I just needed that extra boost to give me confidence that I have chosen the right path for me, and your video has helped me to feel more at ease with my decision. Looking forward to joining the IT world.
@@LisaKinoti I hope it was a good decision for you.... I'm too looking forward to do an it degree instead of computer science coz math was not really my cup of tea.........
What an awesome video have been admitted into the course though just quite confused though since i wanted computer science but couldn't get i option for information technology and from what you have said it is not a bad course
Glad you kept this video up. Very informational. I'm looking to get my B.S in IT, but I want to focus on Data analysis. However, I didn't choose to major in Data science, because I'm kind of torn between cyber security.
@@arigarcia3560 I ended up choosing to pursue a BAS in IT management (with a focus on Data Analytics) :) I'm taking my first 2 of 4 classes this semester.
Thank you for laying out the differences between Computer Science and Information Technology. I recently graduated highschool and I'm thinking about going to the technology field but I don't want to do high leveled math that's included in Computer Science. But, I feel like I'm able to do information technology with enough practice and research.
Thank you! Well i wanted to know that I’m not good or i can say I’m not that interested in math. And I’ve chosen IT. So will this create any problem for me?
Awesome! Thank you so much for the facts; personal path; tips and overall explanation of the differences! Great internship with ServiceNow. I use it with Workday everyday Data Administration Human Capital Management (HR). What would you recommend is a good path to combine business and IT/Information Systems?
Information Systems is generally the perfect middle ground between Technical and Management. If you want to go more on the business side, IT = Technical, IS = Tech Business, Business = Business. So I'd say depending on where you want to fall on that spectrum mix and match minors. I have a video on this exact thing you should check out.
Thank you Mark! Catching up on the rest of your videos. Appreciate your wisdom and you passing down the knowledge on your channel! Starting a BS in IT with Brandman University sponsored by my company will this be a credible source as a base for then to specialize with certificates?
There are concentrations to choose from at the IT BS program in my school (15-24 credits) I’m wondering which concentration did you choose? Did you have prior IT knowledge before starting your bachelor’s degree?
Good questions, yes there are. Web development is one, I chose to go with Security. The one thing I learned is that I did not want to specialize in security, but it still came in handy
@@MarkEndsley Interesting. Is application developer (your job title) the same as web developer? And do you remember how many credits/classes you took for your specialization at your Information Technology program? Thank you for replying (appreciate very much) I hope you have a great day!
Aside from needing to get through trig, there is a fair amount of Math in IT. You might find with practice you get better. It is less math intensive than many other STEM degrees though.
Computer Engineering is a very hard degree, but I know several people that have done it, and they are doing well. it could be a bit more software oriented than you think
@@Mykmylz I don't think I've ever written one so I don't think I could do a good video on this, thanks for the suggestion though, I always appreciate suggestions
I studied at UCF, and I would recommend that program. Beyond that it is hard for me to give you recommendations having not done them myself. I encourage you to look at the classes and ensure they are things you want to learn. I may do a video on this kind of thing in the future if I can find some time to research.
I would say no, but at certain points they are different types of programming. Both CS Majors and IT Majors start with the same programming classes, eventually they part ways a bit. CS majors will go on to mostly use the more basic programming languages (as well as some old ones). They will write programs to simulate higher level algorithms. IT majors on the other hand will start doing web based, and database type programs. IT Majors should leave with close to the ability to write a webpage and connect it to a database.
I do see some fitting jobs, like the one I linked below. However, it is slim pickings I had to a bigger area to find my job. www.google.com/search?safe=off&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS850US850&sxsrf=ALeKk01p06vbhmAYJflrKEnwaSqbRgrcKg:1602632971677&ei=Cz2GX5LzKOrBytMP0oqp8A0&q=Lake+Charles,+Louisiana+database+admin+jobs&oq=Lake+Charles,+Louisiana+IT+jobs&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIJCAAQyQ&ibp=htl;jobs&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjS5JD24bLsAhXhg3IEHfy0DgUQp4wCMAB6BAgeEAE#fpstate=tldetail&htivrt=jobs&htiq=Lake+Charles,+Louisiana+database+admin+jobs&htidocid=UiQUsb4M7PTPNLUSAAAAAA%3D%3D
@@MarkEndsley Well over here we treat it as a full on engineering degree, so basically all the high level maths computer science does, IT does aswell. This is IT in my school www.chalmers.se/sv/utbildning/program-pa-grundniva/Sidor/Informationsteknik.aspx it´s in swedish but you can translate it to english easily if you are interested.
Do not get a degree!!!!! If you are young get certs like Comptia A+ Network+ or Securiry + and start out in a company @ entry level. Trust me, returns are better compared to college bills 36k left after 5 years.
@@MarkEndsley I was able to pass College Algebra, with a looooot of help, and I needed cards written with how to do the process, cause there is so much that I just couldn't remember it. It would be fine if it only requires College Algebra, is that true?
@@MarkEndsley I checked the classes, and as for Math, it only requires the College Algebra. As for both "Network Systems", and "Information Systems". I just got to choose which one I want lol
