This information is wrong, you dont need expeirence with alot of companies to drive regional. I am in CDL school now & some guy just got pre-hired for a regional route straight out of school. I applied to Averitt for a regional route & there running my application now.
Because life is not fair. Sometimes I just want to stop the world and jump off... When I think of all the money I used to make now after a lifetime starting at the bottom again. Don't know if I can do it.
This is bullcrap. I have never driven over the road. I also never went to truck driving school. I have been with the same company for 17 years. I have over 1 million consecutive, accident free miles. Home every day. Paid by the hour + overtime. You do NOT need to start over the road.
Over the road is the worst. 43 years running local or regional. home every night. hourly pay.. The best jobs I ever had were driving dump trucks.. My last job was running abour 250 miles in any direction from CT. to grocery stores. (Whole Foods) That would be so Jersey , Albany, Boston Maine.
Can someone explain to me why OTR would be new guy friendly yet LTL for whatever reasons would need you to have experience? I might be missing something but I would assume that should be the other way around.
She didn't explain the details of what OTR experience is gained and necessary for LTL. It just sounds like a scheme to preserve more desirable trucking jobs for those who are not new. Hope I'm wrong but that is what it appears on the surface from the outside when watching this video. If I'm right though, it is just another example of individual companies screwing up their own labor force pipeline which has created a shortage. IMO, given the dismissal retention rate of a truck driver in their first year they should be bending over backwards to make that first year as great as possible. Those who are were already in another profession doing another job before starting trucking continue to have options outside of trucking for the first couple years. And the transition into the trucking lifestyle is already a big challenge that you shouldn't be adding more hurdles by turning the screws on them by forcing them into OTR and never home with force dispatch for a company. (and random destinations) Unless you get your kicks out of watching people quit. Instead, new people should be encouraged to do LTL before OTR in order to easy them into the lifestyle rather over burdening them immediately and making them fell overwhelm and alone. Not sure if it exist but Carriers should have a national governing body that works on a macro level in order to increase the supply of truckers. After all the more supply of truckers the lower you have to pay everyone and the better things are in the long run for them.
this is bullshit because LTL in its best requires unionization. 3 of the 4 examples are Union. you can start at YRC (yellow roadway corporation) without a CDL and get trained on the dock. then drive a truck. 45k a year to 75k year with a 6 month commitment. then you have 30 years to get the best insurance outside a congressman
LTL will always need 2 or less years experience driving. These guys are the best of the best cause they hit multiple docks a day and need to be quick and safe. If your fresh out of school your not getting one of these sweet jobs. sorry.
Shit i had to go otr for about 11 months plus school before i got a linehaul postion which im doing now i dont mind bumping docs and unloading my trailer 22.50 hour home everyday and no weekends otr isnt what it use to be i belibe local ltl you will be paid more expirence companies that hireing expirence driversni know quite a few theu have years and years and companies most of them want to pay them 55 cpmb
