The major leverage of Ansible is that since it is a push configuration as opposed to a pull configuration it can apply system configuration in scale instantly as opposed to a node having to check in with the local machine periodically. This gives more user control and can be implemented to specific nodes easier and as necessary.

ENJOYED the video AND found it useful - thanks ! ONE THING: - you clearly state (repeatedly) that Ansible is a PUSH-type Configuration Tool, BUT... - your slides related to this sub-topic clearly state that Ansible is a PULL-type Configuration Tool :-O (you may wish to update this, which is a bummer because you've already got over 8,000 views and HUNDREDS of likes :-| NICELY DONE !

Great point; I know that, practically speaking, Ansible is not really built well to be a PULL tool, due to its original purpose in design. By the time you’ve put Ansible on the box, AND Python, AND set up the cron and VCS, you’ve turned half the advantages of Ansible on their heads. If someone is hard-set on locking configs and centrally managing them, something like Puppet is prob. a much better fit.

Ansible uses the the python language which is yaml, and is written in English which makes it easier for non-programmers to pave to pave their way for easy management. Chef and puppet uses Rubby language which is domain specific.

Quick comparison between Chef and Ansible.. 1) need to install agent on the target machines where need to maintain the inventory in Ansible 2) chef is pull mechanism unlike Ansible 3) need to maintain chef server which is an extra overhead though it is very stable. 4)chef-client run needs clock to be in sync with chef sever however not the case with ansible.

It sounds like the main benefit over similar competitors is that there is no need to set up a client on the remote servers.

Being agentless is a big difference between Ansible and Chef... so, how does Ansible gets the heart beats from nodes in the network without agent pieces?

The server pulls all required information from the clients over ssh. Therefore, the client has no control.

Few advantages which I can think of - 1 - Ansible - it’s use YAML command scripts which is easy to read and write 2 - Highly secured tool with SSH 3 - It is fast as the architecture is agentless

Very clear presentation generally. The confusing part is at 5:29, the title is Ansible- Pull Configuration Tool, but the slide says "Ansible is push type configuration management tool". Is it actually pull or push type?
