Edexcel further maths AS review: Core pure 1- vectors were tough to conquer and require memorisation of techniques, proof by induction is easy, complex numbers themselves are easy, loci on argand diagram were tough, vol of revolution was OK, summations are OK, roots of polynomials was an annoyance, matrices require memorisation of transformation but they are easy I give it an IGN 8.9/10- not so easy, not so tough either as long as you have passion Further mechanics 1: Overall it requires memorisation of different techniques (it ain't so bad if you love physics) IGN 7/10- power and word done principle were trippy from time to time. But it overall requires a ton of practice Further pure 1: Conics and Rec hyb were OK, numerical solutions were interesting, inequalities 👌
Lol. You literally said what I was thinking. I tried further maths for 2 months and I seriously couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t balance work and further maths. I’m thinking of quitting work and taking up AS further maths next year (assuming my teachers let me) it’s because I checked economics and had no idea that LSE students will have atleast AS further.
It is definitely tough but it is SO enjoyable in the end! I'm currently doing A2 further maths and LOVING IT!! But I still have to try so hard to balance everything on top of it!
Hi Jude, would you mind doing a video on the first topic or so on further maths (I ended up choosing it!) But there's no notes on Google classroom so I was wondering if you could help?
I might sound crazy, but as someone who aspires to do a Bachelors in science in psychology, I am thinking of doing 7 A-levels, that is Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Further Maths, English, Biology and psychology. Is it feasible to do further maths in this case, or should I drop it? I have already gotten 7A's (aggregate PUM of 96%) in my AS year, and an A (99%) in AS Further Maths...
Hi I dropped a level further maths in my first two weeks of year 12. I want to do an engineering degree of some sort and most unis prefer candidates who do further maths. I think AS will be a good compromise for me.But me and a friend in the same position are unsure how to set up an exam date with Edexcel in the future. All I know is it has something to do with their website, which I don't have a login for. Would love any advice on this.
Hi there! Thanks for your insight on how fm was for you! I'm in year 11 and got an 8 in my maths mocks and predicted a 9 (we don't do GCSE FM). I chose maths, fm and physics alevel and want to pursue a career in computer science. My teacher said that it will be a very big challenge for everyone. I really like maths so I think I'm certain on doing further maths! 1) Now that GCSE's are cancelled, whilst preparing for potential "mini-exams", what can I do now in order to be very prepared for a-level. 2) Also, my teacher said fm requires a lot of reviewing every day as the pacing is very fast. How did you structure your revision in order to be on track with the class?
Hi there! So if you are on track for an 8/9 in maths that is the standard you need for further maths so well done already! The pace of further maths is really quick but I found that after finishing a topic, doing loads of past paper questions helped to solidify my knowledge. One of my favourite websites is: physicsandmathstutor where they have collections of questions per topic for AQA, Edexcel and OCR (I'm doing the CCEA exam board but it was still really helpful) And honestly as long as you keep practicing PPQs and solidifying your understanding of the topics you will do really well! But remember a level further maths is not in any-way easy but with a lot of dedication you can do well
As far as what can you do now... Not too much really! I wouldn't say to start teaching yourself really because you don't want to teach yourself something wrong at this point, but focus on your maths now and then learn the a level maths really well too because so much of further maths builds on from regular maths
I got an A* (9) in maths and further maths GCSE. If you get a 7 or 8 in further maths GCSE definitely do a level further maths, if you got a 7 or 8 in ordinary maths GCSE, it's still very possible!!
