Just watched again, having now watched nearly all your videos, I can see how much you've improved, though good from the off! 😉 These inter isle vids are still my faves, watching them all again 😊
Ahoy Steve! Most definitely a place to find some treasure, aye! Epic flights, great beach, all is set! .) Thanks for sharing! Captain of the good old Blackthorne
Well, it certainly doesn't get better than this. Imagine if this were the tropics you could get off the plane and jump into the sea without much ado. Wonder who had the idea of starting a beach service. Thanks Steve.
Oh I know! :) not sure I’d be brave enough to jump in the North Sea :) I’d never thought Barra was so hilly they couldn’t install a tarmac runway, maybe it was a cost thing, and that big piece of beach was just too good not to use!
Such a beautiful island! And a wonderful way to arrive and depart. The Twin Otter is a splendid aircraft. I've previously written about my flight from Benbecula to Barra (and back), but I also once flew in a Twin Otter from Edinburgh to Tingwall in Shetland. It was a two-hour flight and somehow they managed to serve coffee and biscuits! Jo Grimmond was on the flight (he being our MP in Shetland at the time). He was a big man and looked kinda cramped in the Twin Otter cabin.
Barney Leith wow that was a route?! I’ve driven past Tingwall ‘airport’ before but had no idea you could once fly to Edinburgh from there! You’ve done some awesome flights!!! 👍🏼
60 years ago as a boy I used to collect airline timetables. One of my favourites was BEA chiefly because I was fascinated by the Glasgow to Barra service because of the beach airport. I believe the aircraft they used at the time was an Islander. That flight is now a priority on my bucket list!
Love these small airports. One of my favorites was “ Anjajavay International Airport” in Madagascar. It was a tiny strip of sand in the jungle. We got there from Tana, the capital, in a 6 seater plane. Have always wanted to go back😱
Love the sound of the twin otter as well, I was lucky enough to go on a seaplane version in the Maldives with Trans Maldivian Airways (the largest operator of twin otters fact fans lol). The planes didn't fly at night so a few stayed over at the resort island which would lead to an early morning twin otter wake up call as 3 or 4 set off.
Elliot Davies sounds like heaven!!! A seaplane is right up there in my list of dream flights! Thanks for watching! Loving all the Twin Otter fans on here :)
Akureyri AirPort in Iceland, also have a kind of easy security. Love those :-) Berra is on the short list, last year was a trip to Orkney, and the short fligth Papa Westray to Westray.
