Reece Parker is a multi-talented artist and director behind some of my favorite animated projects. Besides the several projects he's created for Battle Axe, his portfolio is full of projects for clients like Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, IBM, Netflix, Spotify....the list goes on. But even with all of those big-name brands, Reece still takes time to make personal projects regularly, and I think that's contributed to his success as an animation director.
In this short conversation, I pick Reece's brain about what a cel animator does, how Reece got his start, the software he uses, and his process for animating something by hand. We talk about claymation, Adobe Animate, Procreate Dreams, using Timelord for Photoshop, and how to bring it all together for a completed animation.

Reece Parker is the reason why i started learning frame by frame this year! Love his style, and ive been having a blast with it, though ive been mostly working in procreate and transitioning my frames to AE for cleanup. Procreate has definitely got its pros and cons, but one day ill move to PS + AE combo!

I really enjoy it; please turn it into a series of episodes and for the next one, collaborate with Markus Magnusson.

This is awesome! Reece is an amazing inspiration and I appreciate what we can learn from an interview like this. I hope you are able to keep something like this going forward with more creatives in the industry.

This is so crazy, I just started doing animations recently. Like I would've never expected I'd ever get into animation. Then I did a lil silly Halloween special project for friends and family and next thing I know... People are hiring me to animate serieses.... I've been flying by the seat of my pants. Learning and teaching myself along the way. Your channel and Okay Samurai have really been the main sources in the process. Anyhoo, I just got the Richard Williams Animator Survival Kit yesterday. Thank you for everything. ☺️

Reeces work is amazing. Although I have to say I had trouble understanding the rubber hose promo animations because the whole thing looks hand drawn. as a consumer it was hard to tell what battle axe was trying to show off as rubberhose when everything had cel animation on top of it and mixed in. They were amazing animations though

That was kind of the goal with that promo 😀. We tried to blend what was cel and what was Rubberhose. What we love so much about Rubberhose is that you're able to take illustrations from someone like Reece and rig it up in after effects for animation.
