But we didn't really dive into what click through rate is on RU-vid and why it's important to the growth of your RU-vid channel! So today, I want to take a deep dive into my analytics and share some tips to help increate your CTR to get more views on your videos.

Your videos are just the best! I try to make my thumbnails stand out from all the others I see on the first page (using different colors and formatting then the others). I was also shocked when I first started making videos to see, as you say, “people have the attention span of a gold fish” and would watch a 15 min video for about 3 minutes. 😳. I’ve learned that making tutorials or step by step videos helps increase retention rate.

I’ve thought about doing that but haven’t done a series yet. I have only experimented making videos that show how to make something. All of my videos with step by step instructions do better with retention then my other style videos. The tutorials are above a 50-60% retention rate. My other videos are only about 30%. I am a work in progress 😂

Click-through rate is an enigma. I hover around 10-20% as a channel average, yet I don't see much of youtube recommending my content. Even when a video of mine hits a ridiculous click-through rate (I'm talking 30%+) youtube still doesn't want to recommend my videos. It's super interesting if you consider that click-through rate is super important for videos to be recommended.

Thumbnails are something I think I struggle with the most! My best performing (really the only one performing) has a good thumbnail but it’s like a fitness “results” type video so I get why people are clicking on it. I read somewhere the CTR averages range from 2-10%, which is CRAZY to me

I’m playing around with thumbnails and titles and I definitely am honing in on what works and what doesn’t. I think it’s helped to look at similar type of videos doing well outside of my niche. So many people in my niche aren’t doing this and I think this is why I’m standing out and growing pretty fast.
