Coinsurance is the percentage of medical expenses shared by you and your insurance company after you have reached your deductible.
It’s important to understand terms like coinsurance in order to fully understand how much your insurance plan is going to cost you. Coinsurance is the percentage of the medical expenses shared between you and your insurance company after you’ve reached your deductible amount, or the set amount that you must pay before your coverage kicks in. After you’ve hit your deductible, you and the insurance company share the costs in that ratio until you reach your out-of-pocket maximum, after which the insurance company will pay 100% of the costs.

Okay...so in the example...after breaking my arm 6 more times, finally insurance will pay 100% of the health bills?

I wonder if there is a plan with straight co-insurance without a deductible?
@Cowboy_one
@Cowboy_one Год назад
There is, it’s simply a plan with no deductible. Just keep in mind the medical plan will cost more than a medical plan with a deductible. I’m an insurance broker. I worked many years for Anthem Blue Cross. Now I work for a privately owned Insurance Brokerage in CA.

So why am I not finding coinsurance plans for my dental coverage? The dental clinic asks "What is your coinsurance?" And in fact, I had never even heard the term (I'm age 70 and have been insured all my life, dealt with lots of ins. companies etc.)! Sounds like a new linguistic flimflam to me.. I see there's a company with dental coinsurance plans for employer/employee groups. Last visit, I had to pay quite a sum, since I had no coinsurance, was clueless about it.. The plan said I would only pay $80.00, for a $1,600.00 root canal procedure. But because I had no coinsurance, I was still billed over $800.00! Would've been nice to have known beforehand!!

You really think an x-ray and cast are $750? What do you think this is, an expensive, private hospital in a third world country? This is the USA, that'll be several thousand dollars, and god forbid you went to the ER.

Playing music while the explanation is being made is annoying. Understanding the Medicare alphabet soup is hard enough without the annoyance.
