What is confirmation bias? In this video, we will be looking at this popular cognitive bias and why it causes us to select information based on our preexisting beliefs. You can see this in politics, relationships, and even music. What's important is that we are aware of how it functions so that we can avoid it in the future. Enjoy the video!

Thinking that you will never fall victim to a confirmation bias is, in itself, a confirmation bias.

A very interesting topic to consider...we have to actively seek out information and points of view that challenge our beliefs.

All has sense now... our brain filtrate information since our world overview and if them prove our beliefs :O

I was searching for a short video to help someone understand this concept, but unfortunately, the opening line of the video, while accurate, might not be the best way to approach the topic without causing offense. It captures the idea well, but I'm hesitant to directly tell them that their behavior is annoying. 😅

There’s confirmation bias, but there’s also backing up your viewpoint with evidence.

Heating a bag of chocolate will make it melt, so don't get in arguments with your friends or your bag of chocolate will be harder to eat. Got it.

As an academic with many years of constantly questioning and critically evaluating my own work, I still can´t help to sometimes fall in this trap. Hence why we´ve always had neighbor groups working with similar projects that gets to assess our results and give feedback (n vice versa ofc). The confirmation bias is not an issue in itself so long as the mind stays flexible and is able to quickly and undramaticly change their point of view when facts are presented. One would think this is "common sense" that when your world view turns out to be faulty, you adopt the new one... however some people are unbelievably proud and petty and wont change their mind unless they believe it was they themselves who derived the new conclusion. This video was just 2 minutes long but when asked if we recognized these people, I got instantly triggered! Whenever you face those impossible fools there´s really nothing to be said or done than just budge and let them have it their way.
