Cuticle is my weakness, clients think you cant do nail just because you don't cut cuticle properly. They kept saying there is dry skin, pointing to the living tissue. I was scared to cut to close to that area. The way you have explained in such detailed visual way is awesome. The nail schools don't go into great details about cuticle cutting. i will also try holding the nippers they way you explained it. Much appreciated . awesome nail teacher. I am your student for life

Great video!!! Question: when removing the “cuticle” what would you suggest for those that do not wear gel? Buffing? Video was very informative and excellent tips provided
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
Yes buffing or even same 180 grit is great for natural nails. Just use light pressure. Buffers usually have same grit as files but are just spongie.

Welcome back! In your older video on how to make nail cleanser you indicated that 99% alcohol was great, but expensive. Since watching that video years ago I've always used a ratio of 1 part pure acetone to 3 parts 99% IPA. You indicated in this new video that we shouldn't use 99% IPA because it evaporates too quickly and therefore can't kill germs. With all of this information in mind, should I switch my mixture to use 91% IPA?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
99 is great but if you live in a very dry place like me now in Arizona or you find it evaporating too quickly just add a touch of water to your mix.

Ended up cutting my 4-month nail growth because they were so week and im just starting all over again ig... i'll have this video in mind the next time im cutting my cuticles, ty:)

Thank you so much for this video and the close ups. I've always been scared to trim anything because I couldn't understand where and when to trim. Sometimes when I push back my eponychium to clean off the cuticle, it ends up falling back onto the nail. I have to push it back multiple times before applying my acrylic, or I end up with like triangle shaped nails. Why do you suppose it's doing this? Too dry perhaps?

I'm an immunobiochemist. your scientific knowledge and your use of biology lexicon and terms is so refreshing. if 2020 taught us anything it's that Americans are woefully undereducated in the life sciences. like incredibly and laughably uneducated. i know a person who got into Yale this fall and they didn't know the difference between bacteria, virus, fungi and unicellular organisms. just bringing up autoclave was awesome. your knowledge of volatile chemicals and molecular composition is so good. you gave me the keywords I needed to tailor my nail supplies to my expertise in organic and inorganic chemistry. knowing that the higher the purity of EtOH the faster it evaporates, leading to poor sanitization is such a nuanced organic chemistry tidbit. basically, you're a kindred spirit 🌟

omg!!!! i'm so happy to see you! I've been wondering where in the heck is liz but i honestly felt you totally made this video for me! i've been trying all night to use my nippers the way you show! i've been really wanting to see a video up close and personal with cuticles and you did it! i can totally see it and makes so much more sense! any way you would think about doing video this up close with ball bit for e file. clipping with nippers makes sense but exactly where would the ball bit fit in?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
Ball bit can be used after nippers to help buff and perfect the skin or it can be used instead of nippers for drier skin. My skin is too soft and thin for both and when you have a flap sometimes the ball bit tears the skin instead of cleanly removing it. You sort of have to assess what works best on the particular situation.
@lorieparker5767
@lorieparker5767 2 года назад
@@TheNailHub i think i'm the exact same way. but i was totally holding the nippers wrong and everything and always end up with that open skin you talked about. so many aha moments with your education! always the best. but i had been trying to use the ball bits and because i'm training myself by watching videos i always seem to do way more damage than good with a ball bit. i am gonna stuck with nippers from now on. hope to see you again soon. i've really missed watching your videos. ❤️❤️❤️

So cuticle is the dead skin left behind from the eponychium /proximal nail fold, once it been pushed back or naturally left behind once the nail grows forward. Cuticle is the left over product from the proximal fold. Correct.?
@TheNailHub

I have used a nail drill 3 times now on myself. Yesterday i was seeing that both nail plates of the middle finger has white lines a little above the epynichium (sorry its mispelled). Could this be that I created trauma to the nail because i have not used the efile properly? What could happen to the nail plate now?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
White lines on your nail plate can be from a lot of things. Trauma, nutrition changes, dehydration, delamination, or medications. You shouldn’t see any lines on your nails after e-filing so if you are then check your angle at which you are holding the bit to the nail and also check your pressure. You could be digging in by accident. Remember a high speed and a super light touch is the best for efiling and keep the bit parallel to the spot you are filing.
@maryanneportelli4970
@maryanneportelli4970 2 года назад
@@TheNailHub thank you so much for replying. I do think its the angle i was placing the efile. Can I ask you something else on a separate matter. I have bought colour gels that contain the following ingredients: Polyurethane acrylate oligamer, HEMA ( 2- Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate), Hydroxycyclohexyl Phenyl Ketone, Bis-Trimethybenzoy Phenyphosphine Oxide, Pigment Now after watching your tutorials and I am aware of the chemistry and what you should be cautious about, I am afraid that i made a mistake investing in these colours. At the moment I am only practicing on myself not on people but I went a bit overboard with the selection i bought and if they are harmful O spent money for nothing.

I have a question… every time I trim my cuticles and skin around the nail, about a week later it frays in large pieces and it gets raw. I have to trim them and sometimes end up pulling them off which isn’t a good idea… how do I stop this? I have a lot of cuticle build up. I have also tried cuticle oil after I cut them and it doesn’t really seem to help. Someone please help me!!!
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
I would suggest to stop trimming. If your body is reacting that way to me it says your body doesn’t like the skin being trimmed away and it’s over reacting. Try going a full month or two without any cutting and just keep them moisturized. Also cuticle oil tends to rub off or get washed off easily. Try a thicker emollient like aquaphor and smoosh it into the skin at night before bed. It could be you are overtrimming by accident or the tools you are using are tearing the skin. Just let your skin be for a while and see how it changes.
@sassicrass
@sassicrass 2 года назад
@@TheNailHub thank you so very much for your quick response, I will definitely try that. ❤️
@sassicrass
@sassicrass 2 года назад
@@TheNailHub one more question.. so say I don’t trim the skin (I have a lot). I do gel manicures at home, what would be the best thing to do? I’ll have a lot of skin at the cuticle base.. or do you think that may die down a bit?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 2 года назад
Just gently keep it pushed back and well moisturized. You may find your skin responds by returning to a more natural state when it’s left alone for a while. Whenever I see cuticle skin getting thicker it signals it’s not happy so try letting it be and nurture it without and cutting. It should soften and lessen over time.

This is why I cringe when I watch a Russian efile manicures. Where they push and lift eponychium up then file deep under the fold and cut every piece of the flap off. Eesh. Filing like that causes micro abrasions and doing this each manicure causes the tissue to callus over time. The Russian manicure is too invasive. They should be more gentle like you show.
