FYI, the GIA, the world's authority on diamonds, pronounces melee as rhyming with belly (or smelly without the s). That's from their Diamond Essentials course. You'll also find several info session videos from the GIA on YT where they pronounce it that way too.

So melee is the tiny stones and pave is the setting of tiny stones grouped together? Do I have that right?

I have a question/thought, will the jewelry industry or jewelers ever admit they make money off polishing their customers jewelry? I know its not a lot but with shifting gold prices and it being such a precious commodity thats why jewelers and manufacturers save as much dust and small pieces as they can. So why when you bring in your piece of jewelry that weighs a certain weight. You get a polished item of yours that you own and paided for. To get something that weighs less knowing most of what you lost is sitting in a compartment in the jewelers polish machine. That like my #1 concern and issue I have with the jewelry industry is this issue. And the fact the 24k lie the western jewelry industry pushes. Sure its softer as a metal and cost more to make jewelry. But most buying jewelry or wanting 24k items aren't wearing their jewelry and going to work at a construction site or crazy activities that are going to just ruin everything. Meanwhile mene and I'm sure very high end luxury companies and jewelers use 24k and make exceptional works of art. Like wedding ring sets are often or sometimes made with 24k and are meant to be worn everyday. It's all told to you so the jeweler can make more money by creating more items made with a % of gold content. Rather than higher karat items that cost a little more. My 1 question and issue lol but I'm nobody so.... means nothing lol

Good info, never ever heard of this term. I have a group of little diamonds I don’t know what to do with. I’m sure some are melee ones, but others are a bit bigger. They were taken off older jewelry pieces from which I sold the gold. I planned on maybe designing a piece using them, but I’ve been holding on to them for years and still have not done it. Maybe set them on white gold, make a little pendant for a white gold chain...i should figure out how to do that before I loose those.
