In this video, I am going to explain what is the difference between AMI and Snapshot. So let me tell you that AMI is dependent on Snapshot. Whenever we create AMI so one snapshot is created in the backend.
summary of this video: Basically, when we enter into AWS, We have to create user with permission of what the user can access ( like EC2, S3). So, IAM-->Create User with EC2 Permissions. Once we created user, the user can access EC2 to create instance ( like how the @server Gyan did in the begining of the video). once we created Instance, we can create AMI and the following points below are discussed in the video 1. SNAPSHOT is like backup 2. when we created an AMI from EC2 Instance, it automatically create a SNAPSHOT backup, but we can also create SNAPSHOT manually from EC2 Instance through volume (EC2 Instance --> Root device --> EBS ID --> Create Snapshot. 3. Interestingly, we can also create AMI from the manually created snapshot (eg: SNAPSHOT: AMI-volume at 7:30 ) 4. Since SNAPSHOT always depend on AMI, we have to "deregister" (AMI-->Actions -->Deregister)
for the point 4 ; I think the reverse way is the right, AMI it alway depend in SNAPHOT; like a child for her parent :) ; when AMI de-register from Snapshot, when you can delete Snapshot.
Hello, I have a question, is it possible to copy an EBS snapshot cross-region-account in one go ? meaning copy a snapshot from one account to another in a different region
Thanks for the explanation sir I have an doubt that when we create an snap shot or AMI then Will it contains the data storage same as instance or compressed??
Hi ..My query is how can we maintain instance in different regions for Disaster recovery. In case Instance got crashed in one region. Instance from other region start working automatically....Thank You
Thanks for the explanation....Can you please let me know if Snap shot is better than an image.....the only issue being it might have some unwanted information.Apart from this is there anything else ? Also how is image and snapshot interconnected.Because i can't delete a snapshot....thanks once again
Hello Dear, Every AMI is created on the top of Snapshot only, Once you start creating AMI you can check under the snapshot section, one snapshot creation is initiated, You will not be able to delete Snapshot until you de-register your AMI. Feel free to write in case of any questions. Happy Learning !!!
