You can also use a toothpick or sharp tipped object but not breaking the skin. On the trigger point. Or between the pain and the brain. Just gently tap around the point or the painful Area. Again you do not break or scratch the skin. Try it and see if it works for you. Good luck

Dry needling has saved me from knee surgery. My physical therapist in Yuma AZ is a master at it!

Something I just learned is the dry needling uses different metal needles. They thankfully asked and had to use gold plated ones because I am allergic to nickel which is the main type used. I just always thought they used surgical steel for all needles.

Yes! I highly recommend sharing all of your allergies and sensitivities with your therapist or medical professional. Between latex and nickel, there are lots of things that can irritate anyone with allergies.

Great informative video! In acupuncture we use various meridian systems! One of these channel systems is called “sinew” or “musculo-tendinous”! These meridians are very broad overlapping sheaths which cover/address the muscles and fascia of the entire body. We address trigger points (which we call “ashi” points) and use a “chiseling” technique akin to your pistoning technique. We also often use e-stim for various meridian systems, sinew or otherwise. Thanks for your informative video and for helping your patients with the power of needles!

I have a herniated disk that sits at the hip and has no spinal fluid left. Ive had steriod injections and ablations and nothing seems to help much. I have an appointment in 2 days to try dry needling to get that muscle to let go and relax. My range of motion is horrible right now.

I have Whiplash Syndrome. My neck muscles are like concrete most of the time. I can't even lift my neck, turn it, etc. I'm starting dry needling next Wednesday. I hope it works. I have been looking at the ground for a couple of years now. I wanted to start last year but I had other things to take care of. Hernia surgery, blockages, etc. I tried physical therapy, which didn't work. They say my neck muscles are in a constant spasm. They won't release. Now, I'm finally able to get this done!!

Hey Wendy, we use both the pointer and dual channel units in most of our clinics. It really depends on the effect and location you are wanting to get. I have bought units from www.idryneedle.com/e-stim.html before and they work well.

I have a stiff neck that cracks and pops and makes all kinds of noise. Can dry needling be done to help stiffness in the neck and shoulders?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
In our experience, cracks and pops in the neck usually come from friction at joints, possibly due to muscle tension, especially in looser body types. Dry needling to the muscles surrounding those joints (upper traps, levator scapulae, suboccipitals in the neck) can relieve tension in those muscles which may relieve the joints. Although it might be a short duration of relief, it might give you a window of time to work on range of motion and strengthening to relieve that constant tension. Always smart to discuss with a medical professional before seeking out dry needling treatment.

@@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness Ok thanks for the info. Part of my problem is i'm almost totally blind so i tend to look down and bend my neck forward to see my phone or other things i do every day. So i don't know how to stop doing that since my sight makes it hard to not bend my neck forward. I am sure this causes problems with my tense tight muscles and the popping and cracking i hear when i try and loosen my neck to get relief.

Can this be used for bulging disks in the neck?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
Hello! Dry needling can be very helpful in reducing muscle tension and improving range-of-motion in the neck, especially a neck that has some structural changes like a bulging disk. However, dry needling has not been shown to alter anything structural like a disk itself. It is always amrt to consult with your physician or healthcare professional prior to seeking out dry needling treatment!

Hey is it any good for pots syndrome x
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness 11 месяцев назад
Hello, the direct results of dry needling typically impact muscle tissue only, which in most symptoms with POTS, wouldn't be the best treatment. If there are any secondary symptoms due to POTS (increased muscle tone/tension, decreased neck range of motion etc.) then Dry Needling could be used to help that.

I love how they say its difference from accupuncture, BUT IT IS NOT!
@sophiaerzumiah8715
@sophiaerzumiah8715 8 месяцев назад
It’s entirely different. Acupuncture does not go into the muscle. Dry needling goes directly into the muscle or knot and releases the blood flow for that muscle. Acupuncture does not do that.
@gracepiercy5699
@gracepiercy5699 8 месяцев назад
I’ve had both, and while they use the same needle, they were very different experiences. DN was more clinical, just a piece of an overall plan, and targeted an injury. Acupuncture helped me mainly with mental and emotional wellness; the needle placement is very different (and much less painful than dry needling). With DN, the needles were in and out quickly, while the needles in acupuncture stayed in for about 30 minutes (I think - I fell asleep during my sessions). Both have been very beneficial 😊

@@sophiaerzumiah8715incorrect, lol. i needle into the muscle on a daily basis as an acupuncturist. we have many lengths of needles-sizes and thickness. some go deep into the muscle tissue, some more shallow. we needle trigger points often, which is comparable to DN.
@chrisvallee6545

I see Benefits with Dry Needling however I do wonder why we don't just call it Acupuncture, You are using Acupuncture needles, you are using Acupuncture Points (ashi meaning Painful Point or Trigger Point) and you are doing a traditional Acupuncture twirl to get the JUMP or the QI. This is really just a Fancy Name for Acupuncture.
@sophiaerzumiah8715
@sophiaerzumiah8715 8 месяцев назад
Acupuncture does not go directly into the muscle. Dry needling does. So it is not acupuncture… also, acupuncture follows flows of energy while dry needling targets a direct muscles. So it’s not the same thing at all.
@chrisvallee6545
@chrisvallee6545 8 месяцев назад
@@sophiaerzumiah8715 that is completely made up. Dry needling is needling without a solution. I put acupuncture needles into the muscle every day you are choosing to share a difference in language medical acupuncture is still acupuncture. Dry Needling is not a new and improved treatment. It works that’s why it is used by so many healthcare professionals

I was taught this in Acupuncture school 15 years ago. Meridian therapy is only one modality in the scope of traditional acupuncture. We also do trigger point needling, aka "Dry Needling". PTs seem to deliberately not understand this. I have no problem if qualified and professionally trained PTs do trigger point Acupuncture aka "Dry Needling". But please stop trying to explain our scope of practice in such narrow terms. The reason you do this is to delineate yourself from acupuncture medicine, which is understandable. But stop telling people what we do is ONLY meridian or ENERGY work. It's just not true.
