Very educational!! I had no clue about what capacitors did or how they worked until now. Appreciate the info. Will be looking forward to more videos by you. Thanks!!!
On the capacitor does the fan terminal send juice to start both the fan on the AC unit outside as well as the fan that blows air out of the AC vents inside the house or are they two separate systems?
Is it possible my Trane 4TWX5042A1 heat pump doesn’t have a capacitor for the fan? There is a single 45uF capacitor (97F9646) and no other capacitor visible anywhere. The fan is GE ECM 230V AC.
i have a question. You said for an AC you need more than one capacitor and if i understood right, you could have 2 or more run capacitors or you could have a dual run capacitor, so that you have two capacitors in one enclosure. My AC started blowing warm air last week and someome came out to fix it. 3 years before, the same thing had happened and a different company had come out to fix it. On the receipt for that, it says "installed new dual run capacitor." When it happened last week, the guy told me i needed a motor because it was burning out the capacitor and that would keep happening. i think that's what he said. Something was causing the other thing to burn out and one was the motor and one was the capacitor. He said i needed to replace both the motor and the capacitor. When i got the invoice it said capacitor, it didn't say dual run capacitor. I asked him about that and he explained why i didn't need the dual run one but i don't remember now what he said. From what you said, i am wondering, if he didn't put a dual run capacitor in, but AC has more than one thing that needs capacitor, Fan motor, compressor and something else, then if he only put a run capaciter in to replace what was burning the motor out (or was being burnt out by the motor?) then did he leave the dual run capacitor in there, to cover the other thing that needed capacitance? In his explanation he was saying that putting a single capacitor on the motor would stop the problem of repeated burn outs.
Its hard to say. I am guessing that he installed a single capacitor for the new motor he installed and kept the compressor connected to the old dual. If the capacitor went out after three years, I would not blame it on the motor. Maybe you just had a bad capacitor!
Does it matter we swap the wires to c and herm, like by mistake placing wire goes to c place it on herm and one goes on herm place on the c of the dual cap?
HI, Thank you for your question! Assuming your capacitor is round in shape, here is a link for a replacement capacitor: www.northamericahvac.com/ge-genteq-dual-run-capacitor-45-uf-mfd-370-volt-vac-97f9884-97f9884bz3-z97f9884/ We do have these in stock and ready to ship! Visit our web page and reach out to us via live chat (8a-4p ET) if you have any additional questions. Thanks!
I have 2 YORK units on my home. One of the units has 2 capacitors - a START capacitor AND a DUAL RUN. The other YORK has ONLY the DUAL RUN capacitor. Can anyone explain why?
