I tell you what dude...Mercedes should give you a salary increase and publish your videos worldwide. I'm in Switzerland and I'm a recent owner of my first mercedes car (A class). What an amazing vehicle. Your videos definitely helped me to use the car with is full capabilities. When I got the car on the Mercedes shop, the seller explained everything, but is just too much information. There is no way I can remember everything and the car manual is just too confusing and boring. Thanks god I found your youtube channel, you do an amazing job, really! Also, your videos are by far better than all the other videos of people trying to explain Mercedes cars.
Oh I wish I could make these sorts of videos full time! That would be amazing! And it’s so good to hear that you love the vids! I know the manual is a big one and is a long read if you take up the challenge! 😅
@@npoleary Unfortunately not! Due to Covid restrictions they couldn’t get in the car with me! They handed me the keys, handover paperwork and invited me back in April if I had any issues to resolve! Fortunately I had watched all your videos on MBUX, a few revision sessions and I think I muddled through. It all seems to be set up except for the in car office which, being retired, can wait!
what’s more important is , Mercedes provides features and Nick spreads awareness !!! Great work Nick . You earned to subscriber (one me and second my 7 years old daughter ) . She is great car fan and loves watching your videos .
Hello Nick.... Hello El profesor... I do believe that Mercedes Benz believe in sustainable development. A grand bravo for our tutor Mr O'Leary! Amazing man as usual!
Im a mercedes owner myself (A class) and before i bought the car i saw too many videos of the car explaining the equipment list and all that stuff so when i aproach the dealer i was really prepared and he said the same thing , but after i got the car your videos are the ones whoa helping me , thanks man and keep up , ur awesome ✌️
@@npoleary not a master but i think im pretty good ! Mine its an amg line with premium package and night package ! Also saw in some videos that the night package isn t available in the uk , why is that? Love the car and the mbux system ! The things that i love about it , its how u can personalize at ur own taste I have a girlfriend so the profile thing its just awesome , one thing my car lacks its the memory seats ,cause in my country to have that feature u need to upgrade for the plus package , which is the only complain i have , cause when u borrow ur car u always have to push back the seat 😅 When u did the last video of the a class i insta click the video, i love seeing those videos Keep up the good work 💪
Ah awesome thank you so much for your kind comments! I wish Night Package was available too! Hasn’t been since 2018! Doesn’t really seem to be a thing anymore :( Hopefully it’ll change in the future!
Hi Nick, enjoyed this video too. All stuff that a half decent driving instructor should be teaching anyway, but fantastic that Mercedes present it as such fun. Keep it up👍🇬🇧🇲🇹
Your videos are really helpful , I understood many things in my E-350 and start to use it which I wasn't even aware of it earlier , thank you very much 👍🙏🙏
It works differently in cars with a DCT box like a A200d 2.2d. In Eco engine mode the DCT will "Glide" when the throttle is released. So you can actually travel some distance coasting without loosing speed. On occasions ive manged to get about 24 bonus miles in a single day.
Cheers, Nick! 🙂 I actually started using this. I just put it on for giggles on a long trip. Turns out, it is quite fun to see how the car sees my driving. No worries: it is excellent driving. Well...it became excellent when it was just below excellent. 😂 This is really great at making me more observant than usual. It is like a video game with a rating built in. I cannot help but try to get it to the better/best rating. After that, it just came naturally. So...another great feature from Mercedes-Benz. 🙂
Absolutely I know what you mean! I have (once) before filled all of it up and the whole thing started glowing but due to conditions at the time of recording traffic etc I couldn’t test to see if it would do it on modern Mercedes. Yeah as you say, an excellent feature!
Another brilliant video! Thanks, Nick. I test drove my C200 Saloon today and fell in love instantly. I was wondering how the display worked so this helped massively.
*Noticed you were in 'C' Comfort Mode, if select 'E' Eco the car will go into neutral and freewheel with the engine 'ticking over at around 800 rpm, this can add hugely to economy.*
Hi Nick, I have never used the Eco mode on my 2019, C300 while driving. I saw the Eco display while changing screen displays but I like the progressive display with the digital read out so I have not been seeing the Eco display. I now have a good reason to check that out again and try it on a future highway drive. Cheers from Australia.
Ah yes, so the previous screen shows you the range of your engine and current consumption as well as this “charge” thing. Quite simply, it’s nothing special but all cars have a 12V battery and it’s just a stat showing you when the car is charging that battery. All cars do this with the alternator, but Mercedes have a stat on the dashboard showing you when it is charging.
They changed it for 2023. The Eco display is less useful now. It’s just a circle that changes color with one to four stars above for (I presume) overall eco performance. I found that just leaving auto stop start ON all the time got me 26.8 mph vs around 21 mpg. I hate how it feels but arguably it does get better mpg. I have not seen stop start putting the car in glide mode at highway speeds yet but that could be because highway speeds in Texas are around 80 mph.
Hey Dre Killa, I know I recognise your RU-vid name! 🤓 Thanks for still watching! Yes don’t worry, I will be doing the B-Class soon, there have been a couple of new models that I want to get out for people to see. Can’t guarantee the date but it’ll be approx end of April / early May. That’s what I’m aiming for anyway!
Oh what a GEM 👏❤ I’m using A200 whenever I set into E-mode at the end of each trip it goes back into C-mode. Is there anyway I can set it as default Eco mode without needing to change back and forth?
Haha thanks! No sadly not, cars always default back to their default mode which in Mercedes is Comfort. You can always change back to Eco once the engine has started though 👍🏼
Very informative. How does the dynamic select option impact gas consumption ...does sport+, sport, comfort, and eco? Is there a huge difference between eco and sport+?
Depends how heavy your right foot is! 👀 Yes it does a little, it’s main feature is when it changes gear and how sensitive the accelerator pedal is. Basically if you like to drive economically, Eco & Comfort will be for you. If you like to drive in a sportier manner, Sport or Sport+ will be the best one for you. The car will will change gear faster and adapt to a sportier driving style.
Hey Steve, thanks glad you liked the video! I honestly haven’t seen that tech anymore, it launched with the A-Class and a few other models a few years ago but you had to have a specific package, a specific phone and if I recall be on a specific network too. I haven’t seen it for ages and am not sure it exists anymore...
very interesting, Nick, and I am using your videos to teach myself all the ins and outs of my new Mercedes Benz car, please could you explain the new eco display on the new vehicles as it differs from the one you just been through, The new S class eco display is completely different,
Hey Microlin Cooper, The new eco display on other models still offers the same functionality, it’s just displayed slightly differently and potentially with different icons. The concept should be the same though 🤓
Nice one many thanks for the insight. Can you explain the difference between sport, comfort, eco and sport plus mode? I have tried both sport and comfort which is standard and driving sensible on the same journey both times MPG is exactly the same.
Hi Glen, it changes the gear ratios and also how sensitive the accelerator pedal is. Going from one extreme to the other (Eco to Sport+), you’ll find the car will be very responsive in Sport+. The difference between Comfort and Eco is again accelerator input and gear changes but in some models, Eco enables a thing called Gliding Mode or Sailing Mode. This basically let’s the car coast out of gear (safely of course).
I find many of your videos very helpful. I have just started using the route-based speed adaptation on my A35 (Sep 2019). Possible subject for a future video? I would be very interested to see your take on it.
Hey TJM, the one part of the Driving Assistance Package? I have covered it very briefly in that video just covering off each item that the whole package contains. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LEqM2FqUIa8.html
Nice information again Nick!! I always drive in Adaptive Cruise control . But when I tried using coasting feature then fuel consumption reduces . So question to you is , in which mode less fuel will consume ? Using Adaptive cruise control or Without cruise control (Coasting ) ? Also does it impact on wear and tear ?
Thanks Pankaj! It all depends on how much and how fast the car is rolling. The idea of coasting is to let the car roll to a stop but of course it won’t be convenient to do this every time or you’ll hold up the road. It’s all down balance 😎
It can certainly help! Using cruise control, speed limiter or Active Distance Assist can help with maintaining speeds when you’re on the move. Active Distance Assist / Distronic will always be reading the road ahead and adjust speeds if need be. As it is an assistance system though, you’ll still need to keep an eye on it as the driver is in full control of the car 🤓
Haha definitely not! I’m lucky enough to drive the others 😅😅 This is not a misprint but the price of this car is here: www.sandown-group.co.uk/used-cars/mercedes-benz-classic-brabus-280se/ It’s a classic BRABUS that’s been rebuilt from the ground up and is brand new. Every part of this car has band new parts and is one of a kind. At just over half a million, it’s a proper classic!
Love your clips Nick, but i have a question. I work as an environmental engineer. There is sometimes a lot of drivning in our work. Me and my colleagues was sent to an "Eco drivning day", which was held by swedish champion in Eco drivning (no joke). I was told to accelerate hard with petroleum based cars to the correct speed and very slow with electrical cars. I even remember we had a task to explain this in a course, at the university (many years ago). This makes no sense to me!
A Swedish champion in Eco driving...how interesting! Haven’t heard that before, I guess it all depends on how much fuel a car uses when accelerating! Interesting though!
Hi Nick. This is off topic but do you know where I could find info on when Mercedes introduced the flat screen dash across the model range and what year ect. I’ve looked online and I’m amazed I can’t find it. Cheers mate.
Hey J S, Which model are you looking at? 🤓 It depends on the model as not all of them have the same design inside. These dates are approximate and off the top of my head A-Class - 2018 B-Class - 2019 C-Class - n/a (new design this year) CLA - 2019 CLS - 2018 E-Class - 2016 EQA - 2021 EQC - 2021 EQC - n/a G-Class - 2019 GLA - 2019 GLB - 2019 GLC - n/a GLE - 2019 GLS - 2020 AMG-GT - n/a S-Class - been like it for a long time SL - n/a SLC - n/a V-Class & Marco Polo - n/a
@@npoleary Hi Nick. Yeah cheers mate. I was looking across the whole model range except for the vans ya know. Just to compare things across the range that’s all. Nothing wrong with a bit of knowledge is there?
Hey Stewart, I haven’t actually sat in a 12 plate one before, but...if I recall some of them had COMAND. If you hold the mute button on the steering wheel it usually turns the “TA” Traffic Announcements On/Off. Also don’t know if your E-Class has the HOLD feature, but I showed it in my 5 Tips & Tricks for your Mercedes (one of my first videos!) A very useful feature if you have it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tS0OX6NGdWM.html
Depends on the driving conditions at the time I guess, there are so many variables! The main thing is that Eco enables a “gliding mode” or coasting mode when you’re slowing down allowing you to cover more ground. It also reduces the amount of power available to you on the accelerator pedal.
Hi Nick. I don’t suppose there is a way whilst using the paddle shifts to have the green up/down shift any larger than it is at present. It’s quite small and difficult to see whilst keeping an eye on the road. Thanks Mike
Hi Alan, just had a quick wiz through the video, I thought on this one I just kept it on the normal dials unless I missed it? 🙃 But yes on some models you can customise the instrument cluster display. Which model do you have and what year? It does heavily depend on your specification too...
@@npoleary I meant the infotainment screen not the instrument cluster. Mine is a 2019 gle 300d updated last week to ntg/80 and finally android auto works with touch pad and steering touch input. Thanks and nice weekend 😉
Oh interesting! So it had an update and it now works? Brilliant! Oh yeah I see what you mean, unfortunately that was just a feature specifically for NTG 5.5 COMAND cars only. You can’t do it on anything else. Wish you could though, it’s pretty cool!
Hi Nick, over the last copuple of weks I have been engroised in your U tube videos, I have to keep watching them over and over again as I cant absorb everything, keep them comming. I have a question for you Can you group your favourites, for example I do a ot of shooting in the UK I would like to keep all the shooting grounds in one folder. Can that be done ?
Hey Andy, thank you glad you like them! I’ll try and keep them coming! Ah I see, unfortunately it’s just the one favourites folder on in-built sat nav’s in cars. However if you use Smartphone Integration (if your car has it), Google Maps has this capability to group favourites into labels (like folders).
The Eco Display? Just use the buttons on the steering wheel and swipe the touchpad up and down. Or if you have MBUX, hold the back button on the steering wheel closest the driver’s door.
Hi nick. I have a Class A 250e... Few days ago I traveled with normal fuel and, at the start, the battery was at 50%. The trip was 900 km long and I gained like 200km bonus... Of course the battery doesn't have a capacity like that, but I expected at least to get a full recharge or at least go up to 80%... How should I consider the bonus score? Because it's not that u have (for example) 10 km bonus and the battery level increases of 10 km
Hey Francesco, Your bonus score just compares your driving to someone who may drive in a sportier manner. So if you were driving in a sportier way, that would have cost you another 200km! You must have been driving well! 🤓 The car has brake recuperation but brake recuperation alone is not enough to charge the battery up as you’ll have to plug it in to do that. But this is the good thing with hybrids, for long journeys like that one, you don’t have to.
@@npoleary so it's all a matter of: "you would have had less autonomy if you were a sporty driver..." and not a matter of: "you drive good so (for example) every 10 km of bonus you recharge your battery for 1 km" Did i understand properly?
Ah no it doesn’t charge your battery. The Eco display is the same on all Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid & Electric models. It’s just showing you driving behaviour etc Hope that answers your question!
How can I get aGLA 250 2021 to remember ECO Mode Off? It always starts the vehicle with ECO Mode on. The vehicle doesn't remember the last setting. This is really annoying. I've read some forums with other people complain about this. Help!
Sadly you can’t do it any car these days. All cars have to start in their default mode, Mercedes use Comfort. Falls into the same category as parking sensors, car alarms and the auto start/stop technology. They will always default to enabled when you turn the car off. It’s regulations, sadly nothing to do with car manufacturers, they’re just following what they have to do.
Thank you for your response. I just wish that it would save your last used ECO setting like it saves your seat comfort as part of your profile. @@npoleary
@@npoleary Hi Nick and thank you for the lightning fast reply. Would you believe I figured it out within 5 minutes of posting that question 😂 And FYI Mercedes E class 😊
Hi Nick quick question wonder if its possible to start my car and have it still in the drive mode i had it on previously. Instead of having to manually select my desired mode every time my car is re started, Is this possible? Love the vids ;)
@@MrLawson666 On my 21 plate E with MBUX I set up my profile then select the services and settings I wanted. The system saves those settings when you shut down so next time you get in the car you select the required profile from the home screen and everything sets up accordingly, including drive style profile! As I am the only one driving the car it selects my profile by default. Nick has a tutorial about setting up a profile.
@@npoleary haha,I was sort of being sarcastic. Not sure anyone who buys an AMG would be interested in mog though I'm sure they wouldn't remove the feature based on that assumption.
