Some of the Earliest Model Railways built in Britain before World War Two, were "finescale" (by the standards of the time), as clearly seen at Pendon Museum, Long Whittenham, Near Didcot today. Which maintains a pre-war layout called "Madda Valley". Virtually everything in those days had to be handbuilt as there was almost NOTHING commercially available !!
I'm getting into 2mm finescale because I don't love the performance of N-gauge streamline points and trackwork. Hoping the smaller gaps will make a difference!
They absolutely do, but in my experience the best way is with PCB sleepers and rail rather than plastic or hybrid kits. Good luck! Check out RMweb’s 2mm sub forum
@@williamsworkshopuk oh, good shout, I'd just started an order for a bunch of 2mm Scale Association Easitrac sleepers and Finetrax point kits... was hoping that would be straightforward and reliable! might need to look into learning how to use the various jigs then 😄
yeah, tbh there's a lot of value in momentum - I have in mind to make a 2mm Inglenook on the opposite corner of a 120x20mm reclaimed baseboard to my existing N-gauge Inglenook. Just need eight wagons, a loco, and reliable couplings and points - but generally a low-stakes experimentation project!
