God chose tongues as the outward sign of the infilling of his Spirit because the Bible says in (James 3:8) "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison," so Christ takes full control and command of a person's tongue and tames it upon infilling ppl with his Spirit. And Isaiah prophesied about it in (Isaiah 28:11) "For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people." I will put my Holy Ghost experience up against anyones mere opinion any day of the week because I was addicted to heroin, cocaine, alcohol, cigarettes, and use to lie, steal, swear and many other sinful things I was bound by and was instantly delivered and set free from all my addictions upon receiving the Holy Ghost by evidence of speaking in other tongues. And after I received the Holy Ghost Christ opened up my understanding of the Oneness of the Godhead like he did to the Apostles in (Luke 24:45) "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures." All of this makes perfect sense to me, but not until a pastor explained the concept of perspective to me, and how we, humans, in general, and how I, in particular, fit inside a much greater story. "In the beginning, ..." Beginning of what? Answer: The part of the greater story that introduces mankind, of course! So, God has more story before us, and God has more story after New Jerusalem, after us. The Bible is presented from man's point of view on how to relate to God. Actually, I don't find any qualms about WHO GOD IS, according to your perspective. My only problem is that the God of the Old Testament (a.k.a. YHWH/Yahweh/Jehovah/El Shaddai) is often confused with the New Testament God, whom Jesus called his Father in heaven. I don't think the God of Moses, called YHWH, was the same God who sent our savior here on earth. Otherwise, why would the heavenly Father need to send His only begotten Son on our planet if he was already here in the person of YHWH or YAHWEH? Couldn't He handle all the 'salvation business" by himself during the OT times that He had to be blood-thirsty and required the "shedding of the blood" of His Son to save humanity? I'm flabbergasted if ever the answer would be in the affirmative. Anyhow, Yahweh was invested with the entire category of human qualities and characteristics -each one of which is entirely unfitting a God- and, taken together, are the only distinguishing characteristics by which we can know a man from a God. Moreover, Yahweh manifested certain actuations (overly-JEALOUS, very CONTROLLING, so FICKLE-MINDED, very PETTY, very SADISTIC, very MURDEROUS, very UNMERCIFUL, to say the least) which we are compelled to regard as absolutely irreconcilable with the infinite majesty, lofty character, and supreme attributes of an Almighty Being. After reading most of the Old Testament I believe and know that Jesus Christ is God from the beginning in Genesis to the end in Revelation in the New Testament. Please know that when Jesus came to Earth he did it with you and all in mind. Jesus just wants us to know that he is the way, the truth and the life. Jesus loves you.
