Let’s be honest I live in North Carolina and none of us know what’s going on and probably never will

I live in South Carolina it’s more of a high schooler to college thing once you get older you get over it

Here in Michigan when you see the back end dropped like that it's usually because it's in a pothole.

So as a Carolina resident, I can confirm that this is happening. The Squat is supposed to symbolize what your truck does when a trailer is attached or if you have a heavy load in the back of your truck. It is just a 'Permanent' version of this. As far as the hand bouncing, it is bouncing the limiter and that is about it. At a few meets, people will match their hand with the rev limiter which is what it started as but now people do it just to symbolize the rev bounce. Honestly stupid but these are the reasons why they are done. Hope this helps!! (Like the comment so everyone can see the reason)

Carolina resident here, from what I've seen the hand thing started out as telling people to rev by making the motion of stomping on your gas then letting off. Not sure when they started holding it on rev DISCLAIMER: I'm not about that life nor do I understand the squat scene

from the heart of the Carolinas I can tell you the reving is called revv riding and you can only do it if your truck is fully straight piped with true duals and atleast 3in pipe with a huge tip. that's where you get the pop pop from its a unique sound. and for the lift its stock suspension with adjusted torsion bars to get the squat. it started here years ago at bike week to help with loading and unloading bikes.

Why not blow the damn motor you can get another for like 300$ and we literally have nothing better to do in nc

as an NC person, i dont have a squatted truck, mine is only leveled, but everyones truck is squatted, and bouncing off the rev limiter is called “beating the box” for some odd ass reason

i live in north carolina and the reason they bounce and the hand thing is bc to hear the pipes what we call when it claps or braaap and squat is just our style over here and if u don’t like it deal with it when u can’t see the road bc of ur hood u got the style

Two possibilities, the torson bars Chevrolet trucks came with in the 2000s that allowed you to use lift keys for the front to get rid of the off balance look towing kits caused, and eventually people ending up lifting the front higher, as a cheap lift. Which is where the "can't afford a complete lift kit" joke came from. But eventually caught on and people actually liked the look. At the same time colt ford rap/country came onto the scene, which caused the culture blend of rap and country. Hence why mudders went from more tire to wheel ratio and black paint, to more wheel then tire and chrome, and eventually the mall crawler look.

In NC, you find any old Tahoe or Silverado, buy cheap off brand wheels, run 3 inch straight pipe, of course install used roof rack, tow mirrors, and zip tie tailgate half open, slap your insta on the back glass, underlow, and Pa system is optional, typically spend weekend at cookout, sheets or Kmart parking lot, it's very commical to watch

I guess the rev limiter thing is just a bunch of vtec kids getting duramaxes for Christmas.

“Hit the box” -North Carolina hand gesture

I'm from SC so I saw the Carolina Squat evolve from the beginning. It started when Chevrolet came out with the 88 model trucks with independent front suspension. They learned they could crank the torsion bars for some lift. They would add a 2" block in the rear for an even amount of lift. From there it was one-upsmanship. They would max the torsion bars out to get the biggest tire possible with the least amount of cash outlay (the added expense of blocks was too much to bear, apparently) thus creating the squat look, which amazingly caught on as the thing you do. Now it has gotten ridiculously lopsided (front to rear) and they think it's cool. So now you know.

I Used to live in SC and the squat was the move. It has made it up here to the DC area now. All you see in southern MD is squatting trucks. They don't run OEM reps on them though. You only see those on older model SUVs that came on 15s.

As a NC resident, I can say I have no clue what goes through those folks minds. Walmart on a Friday night is the best time to observe this strange behavior. I believe bouncing it off rev limiter nonstop is their mating call and it effectively attracts their cousins and sisters. As for the squat, all I can guess is they like watching birds better than watching the road ahead. That’s all I’ve got🤷🏼‍♂️

Being from SC there are a lot of people that also have American forces. Most have reps though. But like Blake Ryan and Jet and many others have crazy offset wheels

Greenwood SC Resident: There are a lot of Cali-Lean vehicles in Greenwood and most of them are Tahoes. I think it has something to do with pants hanging down on a truck and I think the reason poor 02-06 Tahoes are falling victim to it more is because the shorter wheelbase allows for more angle. #SaveTahoes

Wassup Custom Offsets. Also from SC. Chase Peterson is right from what I have been told and what I experience. I drive a lifted truck that is not squatted and most of my friends trucks are level lifted. I have noticed that it is usually groups that are collectively either squatted or level. I do enjoy the bounce though. Especially when its little kids or old people. I imagine it would be similar to when people try to get mack trucks to honk the horn.

Live in SC and when I first saw a truck with the Carolina squat, thought the driver did a air ride conversion and the rear broke. Other than that I have no idea besides hearing "bro that's the thing now"......

I’m from south Alabama and I run the full 9” McGaughy’s lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra and did not squat the truck but I couldn’t even clear 24x14 fuel forged ff16s and 35s so I traded for 26” snowflake replicas and 37s and fully clear even at full turn

It does help for taking big jumps on dunes because your front end usually lands before the rear in big jumps

I'm from the NC SC state line it's called beating the box and u max out cause u like to listen to the straights no cats and the bounce started cause u lay in the back to take pics to look more squated cause the weight it's pretty fun

NC here. Lift kit in the front/ lower the back. I've seen a truck so low the back bumper scrapes. The front is too high to see over the hood, Dudes head is out the window.

Some people like the loud roar on a truck basically there’s a new guy in town and we bob our hand up and down to symbolize the sound it’s making and stepping your foot in the gas pedal and the squat I’m not really a fan of it but it’s just for looks and a style people like like I have an 02 GMC Yukon stock with 20x12 on 33s I plan on raising it up 6-9in all the way around and putting 24x14 on 35s but’s it’s been a struggle finding a 02 lift kit high enough so that I don’t scrub I live in North Carolina not far from South Carolina

NC resident. Funnily enough ive only seen squatted GM, never ford. Really strange considering i see them on a daily basis. Squatted tahoes seem to be a big thing as well down here. I think the hand thing started when you wanted someone to rev so u can hear the exaust but idk how it started with the rev limiter.

I live in North Carolina and drive a 07 1/2 Tahoe that’s squatted on 20/12s and bouncing it off the rev limiter is just a big ass rev battle like at tuner car meets with the two step and that’s mostly done at myrtle beach truck week and nopi nationals

Carolina squat is really big where I live in NC half those trucks are coming out of gated communities I've had 5 come through my shop and 3 of them have blown up from lack of oil and 1 pulled off the road by DOT

I’m from NC so basically we go to the Walmart parking lot or NOPI and we see that hand signal and we crank it and give em a good 30 seconds of “HITTING DAH BOX” as far as the lifts and stuff we just turn the keys up as far as possible (not me) and basically they all rag em until they blow up. Basically a lot of people just want the nicest and loudest truck (mine is a 01 Sierra but just no muffler) and we only run 35s for some reason or 33s (rare)
