What is happening to ebay?? 

How could ebay be losing money when they take none of the risk but get to hammer you with fees? I think it's just greed.

Ive been meaning to tell you. Way back when you decided not to list anything under $15, I thought it was a good idea. I am making more now then I did last year with about 40% less listings. Picking better items and not trying to make $7 on a $1 purchase. Im also spending less time then I did before. I work full time so I need to make as much as I can in the time I have.

Crosslisting is a must to get sales in 2024 on items to get more eyes on your items.

AI could be replacing those 1,000 people who were layoff on eBay.

Buyers think we know what we're selling when, in fact, we sometimes don't. I've had to google my answers several times to know what I'm being asked. Learned my lesson the hard way cause the first time I answered with a "I DON'T KNOW", I didn't make the sale. Friendly tech support matters. 😅

They cut 1000 employees to cover the cost of that $3 million dollar judgment, more than likely. They dont have much overhead, they constantly impose fees on sellers (so it would be damaging to impose more). They cut from the one place they knew they could; people. They just force the remaining people to work harder in hopes they wont be next. 🤷‍♂️

When listing a sony remote control its trying to charge me .25c listing fee. With a store should t this be free? I cant find it in the ebay list as far as specifically saying its free or a fee. Thank you.

It’s big business. They fired everyone w 10 plus years who get paid well so they can’t reach retirement and get healthcare and benefits the rest of their lives. They will hire part time employees w lower pay n no 401k or medical to replace half of them.

Not yet, but if they dont wake up and start to advertise especially to the younger crowd than they will continue on the path to being irrelevant-this is why big companies like Apple, MCDs, Coke, Pepsi etc advertise to stay relevant to all and to keep growing their base of customers while getting the younger crowd hooked on their product and or service. No company can just continue to raise fees while losing buyers and sellers every quarter and keep the doors open. Now no outside advertisement will be available unless the seller wants to pay for it. Ebay is the most complicated platform to list on and also to find what you are looking for. Management is focused on the now of satisfying the stockholders while sacrificing long term viability. At this rate Ebay will be one of the great past companies that people use to talk about. Hello Whatnot, Mercari, Poshmark all the other options. Ebay has become the dads and grandpas platform.

I was at an estate sale this morning. I got a bar of the Octagon soap for .50. Glad I paid attention to what you sell.

On a positive note, if something happens my inventory is all owned and paid for out right. I could garage sale it and come out on top.

Last sale was Jan 8, so I'd say my sales have tanked post holiday. lol

My sales the past 2-3 weeks have been crap, maybe $1,000. Only 1st week of Jan was ok.

cd's were a straight up downgrade from cassette in every metric, aside from audio quality, the same goes for dvd/blu ray and vhs, the tapes are more durable, not prone to scratching, no skipping from vibration/shock. I love film, even though the audio video quality isnt as good, the same goes for vinyl, i dont know if cd will ever become nostolgic, if anything i think the homemade burnt mixtapes may have value some day

If you list items with good sell-through rates, you'll be fine. If your store is say predominantly clothing, then your store is probably quiet, since Q4 is over. Dave listed items with good sell-through rates, thus he got a bunch of sales. Also, Dave, if you're listing items with good STR, like sealed Walkmen, you should charge shipping. The buyer will still pay your asking price plus whatever shipping is, provided it's reasonable. You also mention "leaving money on the table". By not charging shipping on most of your items, you're leaving money on the table.

For the past 2 years 22&23 January has been my best sells month, more than November and December. This year January has been half as much as last year!

OK, again I'm going to try and help you - if you have an item that you feel is valuable, but you do not know how valuable - don't do a 'Buy it Now'. Do an auction first. You could have started your bear at a minimum bid of $100 - and maybe gotten a lot more. By using 'Buy it Now' you did not give Buyers a chance to pay more.

Companies are waking up and eliminating dead wood! Those who don't produce are being let go. Let's face it money is getting tight and companies are about making a profit and if you're selling on EBAY you're also about profit.

Other life hack: if a buyer asks a ton of questions and seems very particular, block them. Some buyers are much more trouble than they're worth.

I was really enjoying the flow over 3rd-4th quarter but then January has been such a dud. I think it’s the stock market myself. They want up up up and that’s never possible forever. My sales except this week have been great for me. Dave I wouldn’t go down a bear club rabbit hole. I think you’re on to something- I truly believe that WN , District, etc HAS to be taking business away from platforms like eBay, posh and Mercari. You will have your faithful followers on these platforms but it must cut into revenues. There is only so much money and buyers to go around.

Dave in all seriousness; I would be extremely careful while using Chat GPT to answer questions to your buyers. Recently there have been legal cases filed against lawyers & doctors who have been using it to make claims in court & diagnosis patients based on presenting symptoms and they're finding that it's shooting out completely incorrect information! For instance Chat GPT spews out cases to use in litigation & refers to cases like X vs Y and that case never existed and it occurs multiple times on the same search!! Then you have doctor's relying on what they think is a new helpful resource and not questioning any answers spewed out which leads to a misdiagnosis. I get reselling isn't nearly as transactionally life altering if you give a buyer incorrect information but those refunds and eating shipping costs can hurt as you more than know with the USPS Whatnot return, so just please be careful.

I'll come be the dissenting voice- my sales for january are way up over december, on all my platforms. I sell mainly new with tag clothing. Q4 was bad for me.
