What is Heaven? 

40 years of being a Jehovah's Witness and now out I can watch videos like these. They make sense and are comforting.

I’ve gotten more deep spirituality from Christianity than I have with all the other spiritual practices of the New Age. I thought Christianity was for people of “lower levels of consciousness.” I’m so grateful to come across your videos and love God more every day.

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 ESV.

There was a moment in this video that i just uncontrollably burst into tears. I can't explain it. They were tears of joy and of sadness at the same time. Like the Holy Spirit was giving me an understanding of the joy to come and also the sadness of my own propensity to seek after joys of this world that do not satisfy and are so low compared to the joy of knowing God. All I could do was thank God for His goodness and love for me.

Let us construct a fable. Let us picture a woman thrown into a dungeon. There she bears and rears a son. He grows up seeing nothing but the dungeon walls, the straw on the floor, and a little patch of the sky seen through the grating, which is too high up to show anything except sky. This unfortunate woman was an artist, and when they imprisoned her she managed to bring with her a drawing pad and a box of pencils. As she never loses the hope of deliverance, she is constantly teaching her son about that outer world which he has never seen. She does it largely by drawing him pictures. With her pencil she attempts to show him what fields, rivers, mountains, cities, and waves on a beach are like. He is a dutiful boy and he does his best to believe her when she tells him that that outer world is far more interesting and glorious than anything in the dungeon. At times he succeeds. On the whole he gets on tolerably well until, one day, he says something that gives his mother pause. For a minute or two they are at cross-purposes. Finally it dawns on her that he has, all these years, lived under a misconception. "But," she gasps, "you didn't think that the real world was full of lines drawn in lead pencil?" "What?" says the boy. "No pencil marks there?" And instantly his whole notion of the outer world becomes a blank. For the lines, by which alone he was imagining it, have now been denied of it. He has no idea of that which will exclude and dispense with the lines, that of which the lines were merely a transposition--the waving treetops, the light dancing on the weir, the coloured three-dimensional realities which are not enclosed in lines but define their own shapes at every moment with a delicacy and multiplicity which no drawing could ever achieve. The child will get the idea that the real world is somehow less visible than his mother's pictures. In reality it lacks lines because it is incomparably more visible. So with us. "We know not what we shall be" [1 John 3:2]; but we may be sure we shall be more, not less, than we were on earth. Our natural experiences (sensory, emotional, imaginative) are only like the drawing, like pencilled lines on flat paper. If they vanish in the risen life, they will vanish only as pencil lines vanish from the real landscape, not as candle flame that is put out but as a candle flame which becomes invisible because someone has pulled up the blind, thrown open the shutters, and let in the blaze of the risen sun. I think I'm slowly becoming Christian again.

Whilst I’m not on board with all the statements here ( at least yet), I find it appalling that people are calling you a “false prophet” simply because they disagree on some small points. This is a Cancerous attitude in our community we need to stop, this is how we have 30,000 sects of Protestants. *Important correction* This comment was a year ago, and I said 30,000 sects because that’s something I’ve heard a lot. Since then I’ve learned that that’s not true at all and a misrepresentation. My apologies for that. As a protestant myself i’m embarrassed that I spread this myth. However thanks to God’s grace i’ve grown stronger in my faith & understanding of church history. Whilst I still maintain that there is SO much internal bickerings, unnecessary divisions, and disagreeing in the protestant community many times over menial disagreements (compared to caths & orthos) I should not have ill informedly spread a false myth.

I was almost middle-age before knowing that anyone has ever said they might not like Heaven. Had never imagined such a view. The very *point* of Heaven is that it’s wonderful. It felt like hearing, “I don’t want good outcomes.” Seemed *definitionally* incoherent. Ive since heard it quite a few times. Endless joy and awe, the transcendent wonder of pure light and love and action in humble union with the Divine. Like an NDE times ten. Perfection. Or, in a word.. Heaven.

As a child of someone who died of suicide, I have to say that people don't kill themselves because of selfishness. They kill themselves because they are in pain. Sufferers of chronic pain, either physical or emotional, will do anything to stop the pain.

I can't really get enough of this video! You know what makes God's gift of eternal life even more amazing, if it were possible, is the fact that we already know who our family in Heaven will be! We can see them now! And talk to them about it now! What else could melt away the pains and tragedies of this world if not that precious truth of eternal life; that it has already begun right here, right now and we can celebrate it anytime we like! "Take heart, for I have overcome the world." All tears will be dried. We can get a taste of it today if we seek out and share the joy of salvation with our eternal brothers and sisters today. My heart breaks for hard hearted skeptics who can only find reasons to deny a gift so perfect and so free. Therefore, WE MINISTER! Scholars and laymen alike, WE MINISTER!

Contemporary "Heaven" is not the paradise we're looking forward, what we look forward to is the New Heaven and New Earth, this world restored to how it was before The Fall. We are looking for The Resurrection not an After Life.

In all the near death experiences Ive studied they never mention any pain or hardship, just an overwhelming feeling of love. Im not sure where you get the idea of sanctification as a hardship, when we are free from the flesh we will no longer have a desire to live in the flesh

I used to suffer from problems, anxiety as a kid and teenager, later selfishness, decadence, lust, possibly borderline personality disorder. I made some bad mistakes, being impetuous and had bad coping strategies. now I see it differently as a Christian and looking at things in retrospect I realise I was lacking God's love, and was essentially apart from God. Also, I felt on many occasions, in retrospect, I've suffered from spiritual attacks. I still struggle at times with anxiety but I'm learning to stop being afraid, I've had strong spiritual experiences on a good note and engaged with God, prayer in christian settings since becoming Christian about 4 years ago. These videos are very useful

... Was taken to a small hill, with other two persons. Saw an unending sea of people, just in front of us. Looking at a Powerful light, in front of them (in front of us too). They seemed to be absorbed in that light. We ran down the hill to see what was going on. We came to a wall of people twice as tall as us, wearing white robes; and then, we felt it. An incredible feeling of joy, emanating from the light's direction, that can not be described. One thing I can tell you for sure, such a feeling was so great, that you have no other desire but to enjoy it. The most amazing part is that, I realized that this joy is eternal; which made the joy the greater. Just my testimony. Shalom

I respectfully disagree with some of your points. Heaven will not be a place of sanctification. In order to reach that conclusion, you have to believe that we are going to enter Heaven sinful. We can only enter Heaven appearing perfect before the Lord with no more desire to sin. The process of sanctification is on earth and not in Heaven. Our spiritual salvation is complete upon our entering in the celestial presence of the Lord. Also God guarantees that when we enter heaven, he will wipe every tear and no more pain (Rev 21:4). Therefore, we will not experience any pain or suffering from our realization of what we did. We will however experience God's mercy and love in light of his forgiveness for all that we have done in the world we are in now.

Heaven might be like making a beautiful work of art that gives you satisfaction and honor and then is enjoyed by everyone else. When listening to Mozart I feel his joy in creating the music and my joy in his creation of it. Give going to Church a break. Beautiful architecture ,liturgy and music are not boring. Church gives Glory to Humanity and God.

Why haven't you got way more subs? You're ministry is amazing. I am not saying this as a stumbling block, but just so you know how important it is for you to exercise the gift you've been given and what a blessing it is and will be to your brothers, sisters and the lost. I have been feeling so empty and haven't been able to find answers from any of the more popular channels. As traumatic as experiencing pain and cruelty can be, they will be swiftly forgotten when love and happiness come in their place. Sickness and painful injuries vanish into memory when the body heals. Trust and contentment can be rebuilt and regained when we find people who love us. These things can be seen in this life as well, so how much more it will be in the next world?

I don’t understand how this isn’t your most viewed and popular video. Thinking about my 30 years so far and however much more there is to go, before being with Christ forever, seems like such a small footnote. Like 70-80 years seems like so much now, but when you realize that millions of years and beyond into forever is waiting for you, it makes you realize that your true purpose will be fulfilled after this life, and these 70-80 years will seem like a fading dream.

Suicide cannot be selfish if there is no one who's life it will change. Whether homeless, or in chronic severe pain, both, or in federal assisted living where you will be spit at and medication held back. How exactly is it selfish? There are places worse than prison and run by the government.

I see a lot of the comments questioning the truth and biblical sources of this video. Does the Bible not support that we will all serve each other and God in heaven? Are you purposefully missing the bigger picture?

The traditional, Christian expectation is not of a disembodied eternity in some faraway location called 'heaven', but the resurrection of the body. The material body is as essential a component of what it is to be human, as is the spirit. And if humans are to be saved, salvation must include all aspects of human nature... it is for this reason that the Word put on flesh and dwelt among us- the Incarnation- that we might be united to God, soul and body alike. We pray, "thy will be done on earth as in heaven", not that a physical place out there exists called heaven, as though it were analogous to any earthly, topographical place. Heaven is the locus of our spiritual union with God. We should pray for the salvation of our whole being, and of all creation over which we have been made custodians and priests... The notion that the physical is of no lasting consequence, but the spiritual only, is essentially a gnostic idea, and quite in opposition to classic Christian theology.

Hey IP. Merry Christmas. As you know, and even if you don't, I've been following you for some time and have watched nearly all of your videos, and, as a result, have learned a lot. I have to ask, "What is forgiveness?". I don't think I'm responsible for the salvation of those who've done me wrong, real or perceived. I'm responsible for my own salvation which means forgiving those who've done me wrong, real or perceived. The same goes for those I've wronged. In a way to forgive myself, by seeking redemption and salvation in the Resurrection of Christ, who suffered for my sins. I'm not trying to define Heaven or hell, nor am I trying to be "Christ-like". To be honest the thought of even trying to discern these possibilities is staggering beyond my ability. I think we have to be careful when trying to define such deep and profound mysteries that we do not venture into some "new age" concept of Christianity so in vogue today as many come to realize the incoherence of atheism but seem to accept the premises of atheist arguments that God and Christianity are evil. What about The Penitent Thief who is assured a seat at the Right Hand Of the Father? Does this not indicate a heavenly reward for the repentant? In the thief's case, by days end. God is good. That's a simple but infinitely powerful truth. His love and glory is more than we could comprehend, so it's natural that our worship and service towards him would be more than just to receive things from him, but simply because he's worthy of it. For anyone who rejects the privilege of serving this God, it says much more about the condition of their hearts than anything that's wrong with God. Thus, it makes sense why non-believers shouldn't be allowed into heaven. Why should they come in when the very essence of heaven is spending an eternity singing praises and giving glory to God? They would find it torturous, simply because their hearts have not been transformed. I for one am greatly looking to that day, when I can finally look beyond my self-entered ways and give full focus to the one who created me and blessed me with everything good in my life!

Heaven is a spiritual place not a literal place, your body will not be their only your soul, which is why we won't get tired of freely praising God because that's the only thing the soul ultimately wants to do.

I'm actually tearing up because this reminded me of the issue that I tried to rapidly share the gospel day in and day out by linking scholars and I came to conflict with RU-vid for a good few months and I later grew suicidal because I felt like I lost my title of being an evangelical Christian. If anything I felt like I failed God.

Brooooo, C.S. Lewis was an awesome fiction author, not a theologian. So the biblical view of Heaven is not represented accurately when when we start with with something other than scripture. Some stuff is really good, but there is alot of things that are either imagination at work or a misunderstanding or lack understanding of the doctrine of heaven.

This reminds me that we are all destined for so much. I'm a firm believer that we as Christians would be much more unified if we focused on heaven. We spend so much time arguing about trivial stuff that we forget our true destiny. Beautiful video.

This has me wondering more if I love God or just His creation. I've been wondering that because many Christians are satisfied with just having our relationship with God restored and being with many other people forever. They don't care if God gets rid of some of the good things He made, like the sea, animals, nighttime and marriage, but I always hoped for everything to be restored. Many Christians imply that wanting everything God called good restored is no different than the prosperity gospel: the belief that God is just a source of material gain to make someone happy instead of the greatest satisfaction Himself. I'm still more sure God will restore everything good and that we should hope for that. God wouldn't prophesy it if we're not supposed to care. He made everything He did for pleasure and His glory. Eden means pleasure. That's why God recreating is something to hope for. It wouldn't matter that God gave us desires for what He made if He was going to do something to make people not desire some of it anymore. That's manipulating free will. 1 Samuel 15:29 Also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor change His mind; for He is not a man, that He would change His mind. God called His creation very good when he finished. God's standard for good and evil doesn't change. He's going to restore everything because He's sovereign. What sin did to creation is what needs to be gone, not anything it ruined. It would have been pointless for God to warn Adam and Eve not to eat the forbidden fruit if He was going to eliminate anything anyway. Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. Isaiah 65 17-19 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing and her people for gladness. 19 I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people; And there will no longer be heard in her the voice of weeping and the sound of crying. 22-23: They will not build and another inhabit, they will not plant and another eat; For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They will not labor in vain, or give birth to children for disaster; For they are the descendants of those blessed by the Lord, and their descendants with them. 25 The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. Acts 3:21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. Romans 8:20-23 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons and daughters, the redemption of our body. Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

First, IP says there will still be pain in heaven. Then why does it say in Revelation 21:4 there will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain? IP also says there will still be sin in heaven? I don't think so. God can not dwell with sin, therefore God could not dwell among us as it says he will in Rev. 21:3. Besides, our glorification (God's final removal of all sin from the body) is a result of our sanctification here on earth. We must have this sanctification here so we can be transformed into the sinless, immortal likeness of Christ. (Phil. 3:20-21) And, again in Rev. 21:4, it says there will be no more death. Roman's 6:23 says the wages of sin is death. So if there was/could be sin in heaven, then there would also be death. The war in heaven this guy is referencing is between God and angels. We are nothing like angels. They weren't created in God's image. We were. Jesus did not sacrifice his life to save the angels. He died to redeem mankind, so we may be brought back into fellowship with him and to be glorified (sinless) again with him. C.S. Lewis's book The Great Divorce is an allegory. He's not describing what really will take place in heaven. The main character is just having a dream and realizes when he awakes that he must go share the gospel with those perishing, on their way to hell. This guy seems to be taking C.S. Lewis's allegory as literal. This interpretation of heaven while having some aspects correct, does not seem biblically grounded. I'm a big fan of you IP, but this doesn't seem like your usual work.

Eye-opening, now I learned that being in heaven isn't to enjoy pleasures we haven't had during our time on earth. But instead Heaven is continuous Sanctification to serve others and enjoy God.

Heaven is the experience of the beatific vision.

Haven’t considered the soul-building commonly described as purgatory before as a gradual painful process in heaven as I thought Paul’s claim that we would be perfected in an instant was both a new resurrection body and a sanctified soul. Will have to reinvestigate the topic. As always, great production value and content.

Such a beautiful video. It sounds like heaven will a saturation of loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves, the two greatest commandments in which all the Law hangs upon.

IP: Heaven's is clearly defined in Genesis Chapter 1. Heaven is everything above Earth including Earth's atmosphere. Birds are said to fly in our open firmament of Heaven. It is later adjusted to include the universe as well (as the waters above the firmament cleared- cloud cover). If it is your intent to teach, be careful to teach the whole truth. The true teaching of the word "heaven" fixes most problems with Genesis 1 to 11. Yes, we shall reside in heaven just as the Christ and the apostles taught. Where is heaven? Everywhere except hell or the pit. God is anywhere and everywhere He chooses to be. Absurdities such as "the stars were created on day 4 as were the sun and moon" are fixed by understanding the heaven and firmament definitions in Genesis. The flood story becomes completely understandable and provably true with this same understanding as well. Mike.

I’ve been around a lot longer than you and I’ve never encountered a skeptic that ever voiced the idea there would no free will in Heaven. So I have to conclude this guy just made that up. I I’m not mistaken, in the Bible Heaven is sometimes described to be “paradise”. Well, I don’t know about the producer of this video that most people would describe Heaven/Paradise as a place with no pain or suffering. So it does say in the Bible there would be no pain and suffering in heaven. That points out just ONE reason the Bible is not reliable because the entire Bible is worded nebulously, ambiguously, it’s easily “cherry-picked or certain passages or ignored, And it’s one reason the Bible is the world’s best selling book of all time. It’s so ambiguous most everyone can something in it that suits their imagination and the rest can easily be ignored.

4:20 "It is similar to when one decides to loose weight and live a healthier lifestyle". Truth. I was 700 lbs weighting [sic]to die. perhaps even a bit facetiously, I prayed aloud a prayer I found somewhere online. I weighed in the other day at 299. I had NOT prayed to loose weight. Oddly enough I was praying because of the unavoidable peer pressure of my wife wanting to use Cannabis once it was legalized here. I am still living proof of Mathew 6:8. That God does know what you need even before you ask. Lately, I have turned most of my prayers to just being thankful.

I've heard the story of Ten-Foot Forks (it might've been 'Three-Foot' or some other number ... not the point)---the story of a banquet in the afterlife where the silverware you HAVE to use is such that you can only feed others and it's impossible to feed yourself. Keep trying to feed yourself, and you're in Hell; keep feeding others, and you're well-fed (in Heaven) ... and they're both at the very same banquet.

I’ve never understood people who say “I’d rather be wiped from existence rather than spend eternity in heaven.” Because I thought it was just common knowledge that heaven isn’t at all like earth. It’s supernaturally fulfilling, and satisfactory to a point that exceeds our finite level of understanding.

Love is a mutual feeling in this sense. You do not love someone who tells you that not loving them is selfish, without demonstrating their own love for you. If God reveals his love in Heaven such that it is evident, then I will love him, for sure. But if he sentences me to Hell for not loving him, despite not making his love evident in life, I would know that he never loved me and he was never worthy of love. And if Hell is just the absence of God, and the souls there desire Hell over Heaven, then why should I even avoid it, really?
