Can't forget that KP innings against Steyn in England .. the way he was whacking Steyn all over the ground with such dismay .. Steyn was at that time the premier fast bowler of his generation ... Haven't seen anyone play that way against the premier fast bowler ... Viv Richards was before my time .. heard he used to do the same ...
@@BigWillMK Yes i meant disdain. Autocorrect maybe .. not sure :) Lara used to dominate lethal attacks like that Australian attack ... but the way KP played that innings he just blew Styen away. Sehwag used to score big and quickly but he always gave you a chance .. KP in that innings was something else .. he demoralized SA attach that day.
I look at it this way . Every batting order should have 2 fighters,2 bankers, and a few leaders. KP wasn't really any of these .he was an adventurer and would do what he wanted. England should have decided what role he was going to bring and judge him on those merits the same way Ian Chappell looked at Doug Walters. And it was a different era not quite proffesional yet. But so good to watch, and stayed true to his own words. I can't help thinking his approach to cricket would have been mostly accepted in Australia,South africa or the west indies. But of course SA hated him after he took up with England.
What Jarrod was saying about KP and missing social cues has got me thinking that KP might actually be Autistic it's such a common trait among us and aswell alot of autistic people that are popular people for some reason outside for like medical/scientific fields they tend to be very polarizing people because they think about things differently.
Why is it the media don’t understand sport and sportsmen and question their ways and attitude, not everyone is the same vanilla character and when it comes to sport if you haven’t learned that by now then seriously what are you about. World class sportsmen aren’t built like you they don’t think like you or I for that matter yet you voice an opinion on what someone tells you, fortunately I have a brain and I’m lucky enough to have met great sportsmen and I’ve been in a dressing room and it’s full of characters you just except because they are brilliant and are different but they have a talent like most will never come close. I’ve met most top sportsmen from cricket especially as that’s always been my passion however I don’t give an opinion based on what someone else told me, I have an opinion on what I know first hand from meeting people and I respect them all and yes I certainly haven’t liked them all but I played my sport in a way most didn’t like me because they actually never got to know me whilst those who did will give a different opinion.
People who are incredible at one area usually have their talent offset by a lack of talent or skill in another area. You have to be different to be great at something, and being different always produces eccentric types. No one is perfect in every way
KP is a maverick that had the unfortunate mistake of picking England. He refused to play by the ECB BS. I wonder what would of happened if he went to Australia instead?
To a certain extent yes, but some of the behaviour towards the back end of his career was just a bit sad. Bullying Cook and Taylor, but then playing victim with Strauss. I love him, but he has to take some responsibility in his own downfall.
KP most definitely (and to a lesser extent FF & IB) should never have been given the England captain As good as he was he never had a clue how to handle the England players and even less about how to handle the press
ngl listening to Jarrod talking about KP makes me think he might be on the ASD spectrum. misses social cues, "you dont know what its like to be me", unusual way of looking at world and behaving. also, numerous faux pas etc.
I thought it was a great shame that his career got cut short and it was quite frankly due to poor management. Would be like real madrid selling prime ronaldo because hes a bit of a knob. He was irreplacable and you dont get rid of a player like that
i know it's become a bit of a cliche to diagnose the mental health of strangers on the internet, but i'm convinced KP is on the spectrum, same with smith. i mean, more obviously with the latter.
I'm not exactly talking about English cricket here, but it was more the likes of Gilchrist and Sehwag actually when it came to scoring at a rapid rate in test cricket...KP was striking at about 60 in test cricket. Which even the likes of Warner, even 'Baz' himself was way ahead of Kevin.
He had a lot of faults and definitely would grate you. However, he owned it and never pretended he was something different! One thing he never ever would do was leave in the middle of a series like Swann did! Who portrays himself as a team player! Laughable! Kevin didn't like the environment during Strauss's reign, and btw, he wasn't the only one! Even Broad on Simon Jordans podcast admits he didn't enjoy it!
Met him during the Ashes in Perth. One of the nicest blokes you could meet. Down to earth and gave the time to have a chat. Very very rare for 'famous' people.
That said i follow jarrord kimber from days of cricket with balls. I am fan of his writing. I read every word he says when write his articles. he tellls story with his words. he has the extreme gift of story telling because it seems he observe keenly and convert it into words that tells like man who watches with microscope. I dont think anyone have that gift. He is very special. He is better than all the writers combined in cricinfo. No one write better cricket article than jarrord kimber!
KP was more popular in india than in UK,he was always in the news for his on field activities or off field activities, i absolutely loved everything about him😍
True they turned on Beefy for Every little Thing - I didn't see Keith Miller but I did Botham and as a Aussie if I needed a All Rounder it's Beefy . 🇦🇺👌
He was Bazball, before Bazball was Bazball. The main thing that I feel like rubs people the wrong way, is the fact that he was someone that wasn't going to take any BS from anyone. Personally, I completely respect that mentality.
Genius. Bit of a knob as a bloke I think, but just other worldly with willow in hand. Of 21st century England batsmen, Joe Root is more technically gifted and will likely end up being the top test run scorer of all time (or a close second) and if I had to choose someone to bat for my life I'd choose Root. But if I was choosing a batsmen to watch, 70*, last session of the day, tiring bowlers? It would be KP every time. Could do things no England batsman could do before or since and was just pure box office at his best.
Jarrod's co-writing a book about the 50 best Test batters of all time. He's interviewed a pretty insane line-up of all time greats about their own game, other batters and just batting in general. As it's research for a book, they aren't being released immediately though. One with AB de Villiers is now on Jarrod's Red Inker channel, it's a really fantastic listen. I'd guess that more will be released either after the book is published or around the time of publishing as a good bit of publicity.
50 years of avid cricket watching, KP is my favourite batter. Love how he would take on the fastest most hostile bowlers. Brave and confident in his ability to be better than the rest.
Heres my opinion i met kp i found him relatively nice. He never did drugs or broke laws, other people assaulted got drunk etc whilst others like ben stokes assaulted people get a pass. He got along very well with michael vaughan, duncan , freddy, darren gough and first england team they liked him.
I never agree with Jarrord kimber analysis. I dont know why but we think different. But he is greatest euology writer ever. He can write biography on anyone and make it fantastic read. But i dont like his analysis. He is he , Me is me. Meaning is that he has to do with what he knows. Some tricks some stunt...Lots of people fall for trick. That said you can never say he is not working hard to prove his theories have valid merit. For me his analysis and opinion have no validity. Interesting but no actual value in real game. He go by numbers which says nothing about the context. This is world of energy and kryptonites, number has no say.
Interesting, I also felt similarly on reading/watching his material online. He is good data cruncher and sometimes puts out interesting points. His analysis can be questionable and unsound. On occasions he also exaggerates as is routine for journalists.
Its so interesting to hear about players from england australia being weird and on the subcontinent side it is very very rare for players to be not just normal humans who are competitive
As a spinner I remember he had Michael Clarke caught close in just before stumps in the Adelaide Test of that 2010/11 Ashes. Part time bowler getting one of Australia's best out, match winner extraordinaire
He's lived in the UK for a long while now with his family. More of a global cricket writer who's based in England, rather than an Aussie cricket writer who happens to live abroad.
Look we all know Pietersen pissed his international career up the wall, not literately like Monty Panesar outside the night club But he has no one but himself to blame for what happened
@@Jaydoggie1I never said it wasn’t his fault Maybe you need to get your primary teacher to read the comments to you kid as who even is going it now is obviously not doing a very good job
Brilliant cricketer and he got to where he is because he is not only supremely gifted it is also his personality which works for him to be successful. However, there is a trade off with that type of character. He is not that interested in other people especially if they do not have his talent. Most of his friends are famous people or great cricketers. He does not entertain normal in his life. Hence, he will always divide opinion. The fact that he became such a great batsman is incredible because as a youngster he was known for being an off spinner that battted.
