In this episode of "Explain like I'm 10" our host Meghnad is joined by comedian Antariksh Takkar as they get into a conversation with Sakshi Joshi to find the answers to this week's question- "What is Journalism?" having worked at various media houses, Sakshi now works as a full time independent journalist, making her the subject matter expert. The trio share their own definitions of journalism first, as they start to unravel the various aspects and facets of journalism in India. The conversation then moves on to the current state of journalism in India, and finally, all the 3 panelist discuss what they learnt through this episode!

- for me, Arnab's flip happened when he interviewed the PM in 2014, you can clearly see the contrast between that interview and the RG interview. - 9:45 I disagree here and would love to know more on why Sakshi feels this way. Albeit all right-biased media, RG is the man who is supposed to be the voice of opposition and subsequently should have the loudest voice among the opposition. Still, all his attempts in questioning the govt have failed so far. Case in point, his last parliament speech few months back(ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uKS3d5OYNuE.html&ab_channel=SansadTV) which was supposed to be viral. He spoke of falling ruppee, deteriorating relations with neighbours, etc. which are all legit issues but didnt gain any traction (not to mention him adding a completely pointless analogy, something about wearing chappals inside the hut) - 55:38 for me, this was the best line of the podcast, @meghnad keep these monologues coming :)

I don't think journalists should remain neutral. Journalists have a duty to keep the electorate informed so that they can vote effectively. Journalists by the virtue of their duty should be pro people. Journalists should be biased towards people and against the dispensation.

I disagree that those 24x7 channels simply have too much time to fill. There are still timeslots that are more valuable because more viewers are watching, yet they spend those hours on Hindu-Muslim and yelling about the opposition. They could interview the guests one at a time (or 2-3 person panel) and that would result in higher quality conversations. But they choose not to. And more importantly, they refuse to cover real problems, because the BJP is so insecure that they assume it'll make them look bad.
