I never knew where lakad matatag came from and I didn't heard it first from eSports but from a sport competition. I don't hear it much now but back then it spread widely even for non dota players. Now there are taglines for each eSports genre probably even ones that are unique to each country/servers.

Although the description is correct, the application of such word in the Philippines is when the platoon leader or batallion commander in military or reservist gives the marching order as in tactical formation or a simple marching drill. In English form it is "Forward March!" and in Filipino it is "Kad Matatag!" which is a short form of Lakad.
