Very good video, but very sad that the whole drawing only had white men in it. Not one woman, not even a little bit of diversity. Something to keep in mind for future great videos.
You realise David is paying for this himself. And it’s his story. Why should he have to rewrite the narrative which is non fiction and make it fiction just to appease diversity? I’m all for diversity but be sensible about it. Seems a bit of a stretch to expect it all the time from everyone
@@peterbardenetc3716 So what you are saying is that in the army you have 0 women, 0 black people, just white men. It isn't a stretch to want diversity, it is important to have it everywhere all the time, so children can feel represented and no matter what their race/sex/ability is they feel like they can be part of the army; so women that work in the army can feel represented; etc. It is very easy for white people to not understand this concept, since we are always represented everywhere. Anyone that produces a material/communication, be it a webinar, a video or an ad, can make a change and a difference. So let's do it and make this place a world not only for white men, but for everyone equally.
As a Navy veteran and woman of color, I especially appreciate your feedback! You appreciated the benefits of this story and also named the obvious. Images and language matters. Most white men have never had to experience not seeing or hearing themselves as central -- it has an interesting ramification -- both in terms of their positive regard as well as a false sense of superiority and agency, That is also part of this author's point in a way. In response to some of the other feedback you received: Yes, his story is his story. I am sure he hired a graphic artist, and this is feedback I imagine David Marquet would appreciate given his intention.
Thats not what I'm saying, but whenever there is just white people thats considered wrong now. But in reality sometimes it is. Sometimes it could be all black people or all women or all black women and in those cases no one would be saying we need more diversity. This isn't an advertisment. And no one said black people or women can’t do it. If it was just black people does that mean Asian people cant? It shouldn't matter what race or gender you are I 100% agree. But you're always going to miss out on someone. It shouldn’t just be black and white either then, we should represent always disabled people too, they shouldn't be excluded, and other races Asian, Indian, different religions and also LGBTI too. If you want to be fully diverse in every occasion then you can’t leave anyone out or you’ll be discriminating against someone. Don’t you think it’s going a bit too far to expect it all of the time? Aren’t we being just a little bit too politically correct and losing the message?
