I am on SSDI and initially applied for Section 8 but the wait list was so long. I did some research and found that the LIHTC was an option for me. What I love about this program is you do not have to take a 1 bedroom like Section 8. I lived in a 3/2 townhome and now am in a 55+ community with all utilities included-2/2. They are not in the best areas unfortunately but I have never had a problem or felt unsafe.
