Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Margin Level indicates the health of your trading account, in the form of a ratio involving your Equity and your Used Margin. I'm new to forex trading. Could you let me know how margin fees are calculated? If I trade one standard lot of USD CAD and i spend for simplicity $110K on a $10K account, am i charged the 6.5 % fees on the $100K difference for how many ever days i hold it? Or is it calculated on some fraction of that borrowed $100K? Thanks.

USING: 1 lot = 100,000 units Leverage = 1,000 Your account currency = USD Used margin = Units/ leverage Used margin = 100,000 / 1000 = 100 USD

Thank you! Don't brokers usually only offer leverage of about 30-100 in North America? So would I just divide by 30 instead of the 1000 in your example? Just making sure I understand where the 'leverage' is coming from in your formula. Thanks. Very helpful.

Hello ILikeStonks, Thank you for reaching out to us. Please be informed that Margin Level is the ratio of your Equity to the Used Margin of your open positions, indicated as a percentage. As a formula, Margin Level looks like this: (Equity/Used Margin) X 100. For example, if you have an equity of $300 and have used up $100 of margin, your margin level would be ($300/$100) X 100 = 300%. This is considered to be a healthy account. A good way of knowing whether your account is healthy or not is by making sure that your Margin Level is always above 100%. You can contact our Customer Support team via private message or Live chat: fxtm.co/start-chat-now, and we will check your account balance, and, if needed, ask the relevant department to clear any negative balance you might have.

So margin is the actual dollar value from the user and equity is the exposure/buying power?
@fxtmglobal
@fxtmglobal 4 года назад
Hello Kenneth Flores ! Margin refers to the amount of money needed in your account to maintain an open position, while Equity is the funds on an account at the present moment. Equity includes both profits and losses on positions which are open at the time of its calculation.
