When a road is in good condition, micro surfacing is one of the most economical ways to extend its service life before more serious deterioration occurs. It’s a low impact pavement preservation process that addresses skid resistance, moisture intrusion, surface raveling, minor rutting and overall appearance. And indus is the first company in the world to complete the AASHTO TSP-2 contractor certification process for slurry systems including micro surfacing.

Reclamation seems like a better solution due to the fact that you are compacting the base layer instead of just top coating.

Reclamation is a great treatment for roads that are in poor or very poor condition, however, it is costly. Micro Surfacing candidates are normally roads that are in good - fair PCI rating and this treatment is used to keep that road in good condition early at a fraction of the price reclamation type treatments would cost!

Maybe a dumb question, but can you apply microsurfacing over concrete or does this only work over asphalt surfaces?

In the Northeast, Micro Surfacing is generally used as a maintenance or wearing surface over asphalt surfaces. However, it can be installed over Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) surfaces and bridge decks. In these cases, it is used typically to increase friction or fill depressions in the PCC surface and a tack coat is required.

How many applications can be applied over the surface of each other?

Hello! The number of times you can re-apply micro surfacing depends on a couple factors. Make sure there are no visual distresses that may impact the performance of another application of micro surfacing, similar to the distresses you look for prior to the initial application of micro surfacing, and that the existing micro surfacing is well bonded to the existing pavement. Also, look at what impacts raising the elevation of the roadway may have on drainage, driveways, and other roadway uses. Hope this answers your question!

what about manhole covers it will be a little bit lower from the micro surfacing layer?

They are later adjusted by being demoed out and level and pour a new concrete basé around manholes and water valve covers

Yeah they are slightly lower but smoothly and only an inch or so. We just had our streets done. They just put tape over them so it doesn't stick and they pull the tape up, smooth out the edges and that's it

Watch the video…. They show the type 2 micro spec at passing #4 so you are looking at 0.25”-0.5” max additional height. The video says 3/8” additional height
