ftra1987 Generally in California, if an employer cannot give you work within a doctor's "temporary" work restrictions, you should be entitled to "temporary disability benefits" from the insurance carrier until you have no restrictions. If the restrictions the doctor gives you are "permanent" work restrictions, then you should be entitled to a job voucher, which means training for a different kind of work that will not violate those restrictions and that you can do safely. This can be a tricky situation where doctors can disagree with each other and this situation can lead to other legal actions as well.
