Ever wondered what Nepal is like? This video attempts to document my experience with the Nepalese people, during my trip to Kathmandu.
Check out my website for more of my travel recommendations! golocaltips.com
Just to clarify for the few people that read descriptions, the government has helped many people affected by the 2015 earthquake. My only goal with this video was to investigate whether they had done enough. Hope you enjoyed!

Good job Cal, I was in Kathmandu a year before the earthquake and wanted to get back to see the aftermath, thanks for a peek, also like you, I did a week in New Delhi, then travelled for a week in Kathmandu. Both are amazing countries with wonderful people, I never had a problem. Most Americans would stay away from these places because they see them as under developed countries..they don’t realize what they are missing... hopefully I’ll get back there next year when I make my trip to Tibet. I’m also a foodie and watching you eat made me jealous of what I missed...

I recently spent 6 weeks living in Nepal (only spent about a week of that in Kathmandu), so it was nice to get to look back through your video. When you showed the city, I could actually smell the incense haha. Very distinct smell there that is very unlike the rest of Nepal. You should visit some of the national parks if you go again. Very awe inspiring.

Went to Kathmandu in the beginning of this year. It's one of the dustiest cities in the world. When you fly in, first thing you will notice after entering Kathmandu air space.. The clouds are brown. From too much dust all over the city. There is like a thick film of dust enveloping the entire city. After staying for 10 days in Kathmandu, I figured out that Nepalese taxi drivers are all connmen. As soon as you enter the cab they will charge you 500 Nepalese rupees. Halfway through my stay I found out that there is a cab service in Kathmandu that actually does a decent job when it comes to honesty and safety. It's called "Sarathi taxi service". Google its number up, always call Sarathi cab when u need a taxi. They charge according to taxi meter and is available round the clock. I took a cab from airport to my hotel and the cab driver charged me 700 Nepali rupees. While returning home, I took Sarathi cab from my hotel to airport. Same route but it was just 270 Nepalese rupees in Sarathi cab. Also I figured out that its cool to walk around Thamel area. Eat, have a good time, etc.. But DO NOT SHOP in Thamel area. Shopkeepers there put their own price tags and charge people insane amount of money. The same stuff you can get for fraction amount of money in other parts of Kathmandu. I didn't know much about Nepal or Kathmandu when I went there. So i ended up staying in Thamel area. Everything is super priced there. Also as buy a good dust mask before going to Kathmandu. You will need it as soon as u come out of the airport. You will wear this every day till you fly out. You may not need to wear an underwear, but trust me, you need your dust mask. I did meet some good people in Kathmandu and it was fun. Make sure u visit monkey temple at dawn. And the Baudha temple at dawn. It was amazing. The peaceful atmosphere will give you the courage to go through your dusty days in Kathmandu. I hope this helps other foreigners travelling to Kathmandu.

A few months ago I went to Nepal for a robotics project where we tried to teach Nepalikids about the First Lego League (a worldwide robotics competition) . Even though they had never seen or worked with Lego they picked it up so fast. We were there for 2 weeks, we've been training the children for 6 of those days. The rest of our time was spent getting to know the culture, we stayed at a Homestay neasr the school where the project was going on. Because we got to interact with the locals so much we really were able to not only teach but also being taught by them. We got to experience something amazing, we bonded with the kids we taught, they were so grateful for our work there. I really just developed a love for Nepalese culture there. The way we were treated by the locals was really loving. I just have to say that I am so grateful for this experience, I am only 16 years old (my team is also about 15/16 years old) and I was able to do so much for those people. There is no way I will ever forget about those two weeks I spent with my friends. (edit:) Also some of the destruction was still visible but I also saw a lot of people putting things back together and building. There is still a lot of work to do there but I am sure it will get better with time if they just keep on going in this direction.

Nice work. I just got back from Nepal. Loved it!!! I can see a strong 'Neistat' style in your videos. That's in no-way a criticism.....like great musicians inspire each other, it's cool to see a mix of your own style and that which has inspired you. Keep telling stories. :)
@CalMcKinley
@CalMcKinley 7 лет назад
Hey thanks Rick! Definitely some unconscious influence from Casey. Glad ya dig it though!
@rickcolhoun
@rickcolhoun 7 лет назад
I do!! You're telling stories well and it makes me want to see more (it's why I subscribed) and like I said before, it's in no way a criticism that I could see a Casey influence. As artists, we should have those we look up to. We take a little bit from here and a little bit from there and then we add our own touch to create our own style. Keep going Cal, I look forward to seeing what you do next! Let me know if you need any original music for one of your movies (I could send you some to see if you like it) :)

I live in Scotland, have a friend who moved to London when he was around 8 and then Scotland at 12 and that’s how I met him, he lived in Kathmandu, I’d love to go. He talks about it so nostalgiacly, he also teaches me some of the Nepalese he remembers. It’s a beautiful language.

Nepal is an amazing country. It is a land of Mt.Everest and birthplace of Lord Buddha. People are kind and friendly and when it comes to hospitality, it's the best place to go. Kathmandu is amazing and has its own significance though it might seem quite messed up, but you'll definitely enjoy it. Try to go out of Kathmandu to enjoy real beauty of Nepal. Places to see around Kathmandu: Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Sundarijal hiking, Chitlang, Chandragiri, Dhulikhel, Nagarkot, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur, Basantapur, etc. Outside kathmandu: Pokhara, Manang, Rara lake, Kalinchowk, Dharan, Ilam, Chitwan, Bandipur, Mustang, Janakpur, Lumbini (birthplace of Lord Buddha), Lamjung,etc. You can enjoy rafting in Trishuli river, Paragliding at Sarankot in Pokhara, visit religious places, see snow capped mountains, bunjee jumping, etc. There are still hundreds of places to visit and things to do that I have not mentioned. Please ask to tour guide about all amazing places and activities. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO NEPAL #VISITNEPAL 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵❤❤🙏🙏🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵 THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO

Hello yes I am two years late. I have been to Nepal myself and I absolutely love this video. I went there on a service mission in 2018, so this brings back so many memories. I miss it so much and I really want to go back. I remember the monkey temple and the mountains and the Villegas and Kathmandu. If you are looking for an adventure and a cultural experience and so much more, I highly recommend going to Nepal. I would go with a guide though, as the city can be really crazy and the mountains are easy to get lost in

They strike a lot in Nepal. Logs are laid across roads. Tires are burned. Traffic is redirected into thick swarms. Sometimes you'll be required to pass through an area on foot and find alternate transportation. Some people have nothing else to do but protest. Enjoy the events.All in all people are friendly .Nay-paul. Nay-paul-eeze. Nam-ah-STAY! And the border of China was closed because of landslide in the past. And it was too much and when we said we will import goods from China India opened their gates. They are even occupying the place of Nepal. No one can take over Nepal Great Britain took India not Nepal we have and will not be taken over.
