I have create on-premises data gateway with 2 servers, loadBalancingType: Random. now when I make offline primary node, the refresh data failed. my datasource are on server intranet and on some internet page. the internet navigation works. Someone can help me where I wrong?
Definitely helped me recognize that I am currently connecting to a "local" instead of "shared" data source (which is also available). I'll be checking out your "Connect Power BI to SharePoint List, Folder, etc" video next!
Avi! Mate - loving these videos. I've worked in databases/done reporting etc for a few years. Like to think I can rock a complicated excel statement but was floundering a bit with PowerBI. Just watching a few of your things I've successfully compiled an awesome dashboard for a messy/large project. Thanks!
Excellent AVI, this is more clever for me now. One thing i don't understand is why do i need a GW for a public MYSQL server ? My database is available from everywhere and definitively not on a local server in our company... Maybe I'm wrong somewhere ?
A gateway is a bridge that allows Power BI to connect to on-premises data sources, such as a MySQL server hosted within your company's network. If your MySQL server is publicly available, you may not need a gateway. However, you might still want to use one for performance, security, or to enable scheduled refresh.
Hi! I made a report with a public web datasource (used anonymous credential ). But then When I published it it does not allow me to do the refresh. because ask me to enter a credentials. On the other hand it does not enable me to enter the credentials. It's gray. Do I need a gateway? believed that a gateway was not necessary for web datasource. Thanks for the help!!!!
Hi there, If your published report is asking for credentials to refresh data and the input field is grayed out, it is likely that you need to configure a gateway for your web data source in order to enable data refresh in the published report.
This is exactly what i was looking for and it was explained exactly how i was hoping for. I spent a couple of hours on more rated videos and then stumbled on this. I am subscribing now
Hi! When we configure the PBI Gateway in server located on On-Premise private network, do we need to whitelist the Microsoft PBI Azure IP address range on On-Premise private network?
Does Sharepoint (or OneDrive) provide a kinda of "automatic refresh" ? How can a manage a scenario where I have different users generating their own sources (e.g. Excels files) ?
Hi, nice video. Silly follow-up. I have 2 SQL DB's, one Azure, one non-Azure. I'm able to connect on the PowerBI desktop, publish, view it online. These DB's are not on-prem, simply cloud. The gateway on when I setup things in PowerBI "feels" like it's on-prem. When my computer is off, I cannot connect as I'm assuming the PowerBI Online is looking for some on-prem configuration, basically connecting to by laptop/desktop. What steps do I need to not have anything besides local updates that I publish look for anything local?

How about if the data is in Azure data base will I need a gateway? I have used API to migrate data in Cosmos db, now I am using Synapse link to query the data and then connect PowerBI to retrieve that data for near real time visualisation. I use powerBI direct query and the problem is that when I share this visualisation in my work space I cant see any charts. Do I need a gateway to show the charts? Thank you for the great content
I have created dataset connection in Power BI connected to on prem tabular server. no issues on querying model from excel connecting connection stored in Power BI but it requires VPN connection, is there a way to use same connection without VPN to be on?
Hello, I have a problem that we are not receiving any warning or sign that the data is not refreshing from Salesforce. We know because the data has not changed in a couple of months. Will a gateway still help in this situation?
I have downloaded and installed a gateway which by default is my gateway cluster and through which I published and refreshed a report. Now I have created another report with a new data source but unable to refresh it as while adding the data source to to the previously downloaded gateway cluster the error message appears "not configured correctly". Do I need to download another gateway and add to existing cluster for the data source to get refreshed? If yes, then will I have to download the gateway again and again for every report that I create and add to the gateway cluster? Also what will happen if other colleagues of my organization start preparing the report on their own computer? Will they have to repeat the same process? Or they can use my gateway cluster and keep adding the new gateways to it?
Hi Avi I would like to ask you for help with using RLS in Power BI We have the following configuration - Access SAP BW through SAP connector - load data in import Mode - we are using Desktop and Service - gateway to access SAP with technical user The problem is following - the report creator is creating report in Desktop, and connects to SAP with his credentials - base on his credential he can see only the data that is allowed from him - he creates the report and publish the report to Service - but he does not implement RLS - in the Service is set refresh, but the gateway is set using technical user, which can see everything, and when the data is refreshed, all the data is downloaded. Then all the users, that open the report, can see all the data, because the technical user has more access. The report creator dos not implemented RLS. the question is: what is the best way to use RLS in this case? Is there a way how to force self-service users to set up RLS, so it cannot be bypassed? Thanks

What does it mean "on-premises" exactly ? Does it mean the gateway should be installed on the same machine where my database is located? Can it be on another subnet? How about another external machine somewhere else not within LAN?
Hello Avi, nice video. I have one query, I am using power BI with SAP BW. power BI gateway how you will recommend to install on Dedicated server or on premises sap BW server? can you tell advantage and disadvantage of both. Thanks in advance.
Hi, great channel. I have a question. I have an application server that I run some utilities that execute some views on an sql server. Is it possible to connect power bi gateway to the application server running the views and not directly to the sql server?

If there are multiple reports and all reports extracts data from different tables of one database, then it is needed to install one gateway or multiple gateway.
