I bent a rule to watch your video. I really respected a sociologist when I first went to Penn State in the 80s. He wouldn't read work from others in his field for fear he would be influenced by them. I've been obsessed with understanding why we do what we do since back then. My children are now much older than you but through their development I learned much of what I learned is false. I needed to go back further. In addition to making my own bows, arrows, clothes, food, shelter, harvesting deer and countless vocations to understand hunter gatherers I read over 100 non fiction books per year-all reaching as far back as possible. I now have a system of beliefs that are totally unique and feel I should combine my information and thought it should come under the heading "Behavioral Anthropology"-only to find no one uses that word. I must say, your video seems a good summary of the doctrine that is popular today and I thank you for it. Realize, of course, it will be different in a couple decades.
I really love these kind of videos , am from Egypt and am studying anthropology it's my second year but i was confused about it , but now am really interesting to know more and more , and your videos helps me a lot thank you so much you are amazing ❤️
@@anishamalhotra6195 yes, I'm currently pursuing my first year BSc (Hons.) Anthropology from Delhi University, Hansraj College. Actually very few good colleges offer anthropology courses in India and Hansraj College is one of them.
@@anishamalhotra6195 can u tell me about the faculty of your college, I mean r they well experienced. Because here in DU around 60% of syllabus are complete by students only
@@ashishrao1501 honestly, syllabus edhar complete toh karwa dete hain but samjha te kuch nhi hain. The teachers rush a lot. Mostly syllabus khud se hi complete karna padhta hain idhar bhi. The main problem with anthropology is that internet mein zyada kuch resources milta nhi hain.
Thank you for sharing the concept of psychological anthropology. I kind of think of it as the anthropology of the individual mind, so applying ethnography and anthropological metaphors to the psychological research is great, but the psychology tools applied to anthropology can inform a more rich and detailed picture of a culture and its people. I am surprised by the number of Egyptians in the comments🤣 As an Egyptian raised in the US I can say it is definitely because the immigration narrative, combined with the modern history of Egypt and post-colonialism in general, gives a sense of lost identity. Considering the global reckoning of colonialism, neoliberalism, and white supremacy, there is a cultural shift towards cultural integrity which makes psychological anthropology important to understanding how a culture "thinks" and changes, especially when considering other fields of study like media, politics, and sociology. I wish you the best of luck finding a career path of your own! anthropology is definitely on the way up. I've subscribed to follow your progress. :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment and share your perspective-the intersection of psychology and anthropology is something that needs more exploration and research. And thank you so much for subscribing!! That means so much!
From your description it sounds like Psychological Anthropology is related to Behavioral Anthropology. With the main difference being that the later is more about reaching data driven conclusions derived from statistical analysis. In other words you could say that Psychological Anthropology would sort of be the underpinnings of Behavioral Anthropology. - ??? - Or am I totally misunderstanding something 🤔
In my first year of studies for a degree in philosophy and psychologicalstudies (mature student). Anthropology has popped up a few times and this is really something that interests me. Do you have any tips for how i could get more involved. I am in the UK. Congratulations on graduation by the way.
Thank you so much!! And yes absolutely-I have a few videos on this topic but volunteering in museums is wonderful, joining anthropology research groups, and just generally reading books and articles about it are great places to start
In reality, psychological anthropology is not a subfield of biological anthropology, nor is it a subfield of sociocultural anthropology; in fact, psychological anthropology has its own field within the subdivisions of scientific anthropology along with sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology and archaeology. It could not be included within sociocultural anthropology because psychological anthropology also works with psychic factors together with social and cultural factors, unlike sociocultural anthropology that only works with social, cultural and economic factors, in reality psychological anthropology is another field of scientific anthropology quite apart from biological anthropology, sociocultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology and archaeology.
