Some outstanding info on changing the shape and fit of raw denim goods, thanks very much for that! I have a couple of garments that I'm about to put through the same process and I really needed the nudge. And going from a 37" waist to 30"? Enjoy your clothes, my friend, you really earned that. Phenomenal work. I also liked the shout-out for TCB, I think they're a great brand. One thing I've never got on board with is the dedicated approach to fading. The rush to fade is not for me. Well-faded denim looks beautiful, but so does brand new unwashed denim and I want to let things run their own course and savour all the stages.
Noticed you've updated your views on naked and famous from previous podcasts hehe. I do think their newer straight leg True Guy fit was really needed and appeals to a broader market now.
My first pair of raw denim was 21oz. I didn't think they were to hard to wear. Mildly more annoying and hot in the summer but its still fabric, not cardboard. Id always say buy what you're most excited about. It'll all work out in the end
Hadn't heard of TCB before your video. Just checked out their S40's Jeans; nice high rise. I may have to try a pair. You're making great content, by the way; keep it coming.
I had a similar observation. Another reason why denim looks less faded on the body is that it fades where it rolls. Which is obvious when you lay it flat. But on the body it just looks like light and shadows in the creases.
I got some Brave Star 14.5oz jeans the other month... idk.. that shyts pretty uncomfortable.. the lighter weight jeans are easy better.. selvedge itself looks awesome though i will say
Great video. I love my first pair of Sugar Cane 1947s, as well as my kinda overpriced Levi's 1933s (rocking the suspenders of course). I know I've got the bug bad now...looking forward to seeing how they fade.
The 20oz Oni denim and 21oz Iron Heart denim definitely fade, and neither of these models feels like cardboard, particularly the Oni 20oz denim, so all of you folks who are interested in heavier denim, go for it. Also, there’s nothing wrong with getting one wash or sanforized denim. They will fade just fine, and you won’t have the headache of the raw denim process.
Yeah, but you need to work on your wording. When you say that heavy weight denim is for “nerds” you sound silly and elitist, which is ironic because you are discussing work wear. Work on not sounding so Pedantic. It might help you bring more viewers to your content.
It is for nerds. So is the repro stuff I wear. I'm obviously a giant nerd as well. It's not meant to be demeaning, just pointing out that I don't think most people who aren't super fascinated by denim would want to wear heavy jeans. However, they might be interested in trying a more basic pair
I've been wearing 25oz Iron Heart 666 jeans and they're great! I also just got some SoSo Brothers 33oz jeans that are just monster like! Breaking them in at first is really challenging! I love the heavy weight now. Now when I pick up a regular weight pair of jeans it just feels flimsy and weak hahaha.
Check out the company Grease Point for some cool Japanese work denim pants I think you’d like. I got a pair of Levi’s 150th Anniversary high waist selvedge 501s and they made them beautifully. Also just got a pair of Red Tornado Snowy nep, back belt, high waist, suspenders buttons, back V notch. Beautifully made in China. 14oz. Great content.
You and TGV of The Urban Gentry, have quite something in common personal preference wise. You disagree with things about Rose Anvil, and TGV respectfully hates Teddy Baldasarre.
What’s your washing routine? Do you wash when they start to smell, get it dirty, have that slick feel, or is it scheduled washing no matter how much you wear them?
I tend to wash my jeans once a month or less now, or if I take them on trips, I wash them when I get back home. I used to wait until them smelled a bit, but I wash them more often now.
Nuu is the rebranding of woods mountain, so it’s actually the same trousers he’s wearing. For what it’s worth i think it’s kind of reasonable to assume that the fabric is selvedge and he cuts the selvedge off because they’re flat felled. I know for a fact that’s the way it is with tcb for example, with their version of the USN denim trousers. Nuu’s trousers are raw. He ships them unwashed.
As stated below by @omrimeir I am actually wearing those exact trousers. It's just the new name for Woods Mountain. I think they are selvedge, but he does flat felled finishing on them so you wouldn't see the selvedge anyway
Yes it almost certainly would be. Almost every pair of jeans, even high end raw denim is synthetic indigo. They have to be very clear about it being 100% natural indigo for it to be free of synthetic indigo and that is quite rare
