Sometimes the symptoms build up so much I just wanna cry because I’m in my bed moving my legs so much the second I stop it just comes back. Sometimes I’m next to my bed jumping up and down or pacing just for a bit of relief. It can be hard sometimes! Stay strong RLS friends!
Get a prescription for Requip (generic ropinerole), this is a life saver for me. After taking it, relief begins 30 - 45 min. Side affects drowsiness ( makes you sleepy), if you haven't eaten in a few hours, then be sure to eat a snack before taking. If you don't you will have nausea.
Thank you all for the encouragement/ feedback! I’m gonna talk to my doctor, I honestly just figured this was something I had to just deal with. It’s good to hear others have had some relief!
Rosie Stewart yes, it is super annoying 🥺 I fell asleep at 2am last night and woke up at 4am feeling the urge to move my legs, and I can’t sleep afterwards.
Me too. For my case, I am thankful if I can sleep atleast 3am in the morning Right now it's 5;30am here in the Philippines and I can still feel the sensation down my legs. It's hard. Every single night for many years so far. I don't have any choices but to stay AWAKE until SUN RISE and my body cannot handle sleepiness anymore.
It's easy to put it down to growing pains which can be very painful for some children so seeing your doctor for an actual diagnosis may help. These experts really did an excellent job explaining all aspects of RLS. I hope that you all are coping well. If you aren't coping and your sleep is affected there are medications that your doctor will know about and will tell you if any are appropriate for your age/s. My medical history is extensive and it's left me mainly bedridden and so I am diligent about moving my feet but whenever I get up its sends pain right through both of my feet. I also get plantar fasciitis. I'm taking natural magnesium tablets and when it's really bad I spread a magnesium oil onto my legs. I hope this is helpful to someone.
This condition is literal torture. I would not even wish it on my worst enemy. I’m so thankful my symptoms have decreased as I’ve grown into adulthood- it now only happens 1-2x/week. Bless 🙏🏼
I have an anxiety disorder, and stress is always there. Then I try to sleep. It's so unbearable sitting still that I cry out in tears, exhausted. I'm so tired but no matter what I do I can't fall asleep. I wish I could just knock myself out.. Doesn't happen as often as people with this syndrome but enough that I understand the suffering.
Hi Friends who are suffering from RLS.. I rub a dry soap on both my legs and this has brought me relief.. I don't usually post comments.. But thought if this helps some one like me...
@@cameonashipleftonaplane698 soap stopped working ... Search for restless leg syndrome in Facebook and join those groups you will be amazed to see thousands of ppl suffering from RLS... Anyways I will tell you what worked for me .. magnesium supplements..
@@sgill4833 check your iron levels once.. If magnesium works for you check for dosage how much elementary magnesium it contains.. I take magnesium glycinate 1 tablet which provides we around 120 mg elementary mag
Yes. Mine is pain too. But a weird pain which words cannot describe. Not the same as a bump, bruise, fall, etc Much worse! I want to chop my legs off at times because it hurts so bad! A crazy condition to be saddled with for sure!
As a little girl my family would say my legs hurt because I was growing, it’s been 16 years and I don’t think growing means screaming into my pillow every night from this pain, at least I know what it is
As a nurse this was such a a problem for my job. I used to suffer with this all the time and now it is very sporadic. But I have found that when I take supplemental Magnesium my symptoms go away.
My feet just feels like something is crawling inside. It's so frustrating, it happens whenever I try to sleep at night. I hate it. My feet get really warm too.
I have restless leg syndrome before. I felt like my legs could run around the house but my body was so tired I could barely keep my eyes opened. My body does twitch a lot especially when I am falling asleep. I had no idea these two symptoms could be related . It does run in my family so I fit into the first category it is not secondary. I have neuropathy along with sciatica so that is why I am following you all so much to learn about the best mattresses. I never put all of this together before this video. My doctor probably has but I have not. Thank you this is one of the most informative videos you all have made and it makes me want to get a better bed to keep from more nerve damage. and making restless leg syndrome worse! Thank you.
I am so glad that this is being talked about! I have had restless leg syndrome since childhood. It has grown worse over the years and now that I am 60, it can be so bad I just wish I would die! Most of my life I was afraid to tell anyone what was going on. My Dad would laugh when we watched TV and say I had the heebageebees. I have been on medication for about twenty years and it works most of the time. But, some days and nights I feel like I am going out of my mind! I cannot sleep and I cannot sit down. I would not wish this on my worse enemy. So, I thank you so much for this video and anything you can do to figure out the causes and treatments of this horrible condition!!!
I started getting it when I was around 8 years old, I'm now 54. I complained as a child and doctors would just tell me I'm too active and my legs are tired. At that time doctors just didn't get it. As I got older I tried every medication this doctor mentioned and nothing worked for me. I was a ballet dancer until I had a back accident, herniated 6 disks and now have to take painkillers basically every day. The first time I took the pain medication at night, I just started to cry. It was the first time I had ever experienced not have that awful sensation in my legs. I hate to say this but now I cannot live without being on this opioid. I don't care that I'm addicted to it. I need it to get rest and sleep. I don't know why more doctors don't take this disorder more seriously. Mine led to depression, frustration, irritability, and I could not share a bed with anyone. I had no quality of life and always dreaded what I knew I was going to experience once the sun went down. Why did it take 6 herniated disks to be given a medication that actually worked for me? I don't believe anyone who does not experience RLS can even imagine the level of discomfort and the symptoms we have. They feel we are just complaining about nothing because it only happens at night and it is literally unexplainable, nor can you see anything. I was fed up with being told to take warm baths, stretch before sleep, and other ideas doctors suggested. I would have paid anything to have a doctor feel the awful sensation that I had to deal with from a young girl to a middle-aged woman. It is a crazy disorder but it does exist and should be taken more seriously.
I had no idea this was a neurological issue. So sorry for folks who have to deal with this. I think I heard some folklore that putting a bar of soap down by your legs under the sheets is supposed to be helpful. Anyone else ever hear this?
I am a 32 yrs old male. I have not been diagnosed with RLS but my symptoms is very consistent with the symptoms described by this video and many medical articles i have read about RLS. My Symptoms started when i was around 16 with my arms and legs where i have this “creeping” annoying indescribable feeling where i must flex and stretch in weird positions in exchange for a few seconds of relieve. I have scared people that i shared my bed with when i would be up in the middle of odd hours looking like someone possessed from the exorcist while doing my stretch and flex. My legs would twitch a lot and the movement is enough to wake myself up. This weird creeping sensation had traveled to different body parts of my body throughout my life and It disappeared when I was around 28 or so. This specific location of this sensation can be triggered by me just thinking about that sensation at that body part. I have flexed and stretched consistently enough to cause muscle aches. Two months ago, I had a grade 3 sprained ankle that involved tearing of multiple ligaments. As my ankle recover, my twitchy leg reappeared but i had no problem sleeping. About a month ago, i have a back pain that is consistent with a rhomboid muscle strain. The majority of my back pain went away but it seems to have invited my restless feeling back into my life. It has been around two weeks and counting. I would wake up religiously around 1am and would not be able to fall back asleep although i am extremely tire and sleepy. It is 2:17am right now and i am currently experiencing the symptoms of RLS on my upper back. I am only writing this long comment because I cant go back to sleep wishes to keep my mind off the “feeling”. I will go see a doctor when this covid 19 pandemic goes away. Hope everyone is well.
OH GOD. I am relating to this so much! I’m currently 15 right now and I’ve gotten it before, but this week has been more common for me as every single day, not one day have I not had this experience. Even tonight it feels like I’m going to have it which is killing me.
I was hoping this wouldn’t be me, but everything they described hit all the check marks 😳 THANK YOU! At least now I know what’s been ruining my sleep for so many months!!!
Now I know why I hardly sleep at night. I taught it was an insomia, it made me realize that this pain in my leg has a name LOL! and that is RLS 😅 Thank you for this vid I learned something new ☺
Mine is like a tingling sensation that gets overwhelming over time. It also keeps me up for hours at a time. It’s lake an addiction, you’re not satisfied unless you move your legs eve if it was literally 5 seconds ago. It gets so bad I just have to get up and walk it off. It’s a curse that feels like you can’t escape.
Every day between 11pm to 12:30 am this feelings start. Sometimes it's became insane. I start crying. It's feel like if I cut my legs that would be better.
I have restless leg syndrome since I was a kid. I use to wake up crying and I would tell my grandma, but she didn't know what problem I had. I found out about this medical problem later in my adult life. I notice that eating healthy foods and exercising your legs or whole body tends to help me easy my problems with restless legs. I also take a B complex and iron supplement to help with my problem it seem to help me. They say that a lack of this supplements can cause restless leg syndrome, and also some weman when they are pregnant can have restless legs but only temporary unlike me and other people with this condition.
I've suffered from rls and it's definitely uncomfortable but i do appreciate the extra knowledge you told me about. I love these informative videos! Thank you all.
This is indeed educational and informative. I did not know that low in iron could be the cause of RLS too. I am glad to hear that natural remedies like warm bath and yoga can help too. Interesting. Thank you.
Prayers and healing energy to anyone suffering from RLS, it is so disturbing to your life (and family) you suffer in silence most times, you're tired as heck most days...butchers broom helps me some but still searching for cure.
I find that using something like peppermint oil on the legs helps me a lot. The tingle of the peppermint helps distract me from the tingle of needing to move the leg. It becomes nearly painful when I attempt to keep the leg still by having someone hold it down. It's so weird. I do remember having RLS when I was in a long car ride. Im so glad as an adult I understand it a lot better!
I have experienced this and I am telling you it is annoying beyond annoying! Thanks for all the info though, especially some of the factors that lead to it
I have it in arms and legs as well. A sleep study diagnosed mine. During the study I moved approximately every 90 seconds, all night. Not hard to see why we're so tired all the time. And how much REM sleep can you possibly get in that condition? Mine feels like right before you get a cramp in your calves, you feel it coming, but it's not quite there. Definitely worse when I'm overly tired. Something that helps mine is a shiatsu leg massager, like they have at some nail salons. It has a kneading motion that helps. I do have a prescription, but I hate the drowsy feeling it gives me the next day.
Some advice (as a rls patiënt for years) Avoid sugar as much as you can. Dont drink coffee. No fastfood. Walking is better then cycling. Do this and let me know your rls symptoms are less. BTW: it did work for me it only needs discpiline and time .
There's also a very strong association between opioid & alcohol withdrawals and RLS. Throughout the pandemic I formed an alcohol habit, and when I dropped it I had RLS for about a week and then it gradually went away.
Generally speaking a bad diet is the #1 cause of RLS, specifically vitamin B, iron and magnesium will cause this (as well as depression). People, just eat right, drink water, and go for a walk every now and then. It goes away! I had RLS for 20 years. The kind that causes insomnia. It stopped once I started taking back my life. Not drinking alcohol, not vaping, going on walks and eating right. I dont even remember when it went away tbh. I went from tapping my feet like 99% of the time I am awake to not even realizing I stopped. My GF was the one who noticed and it blew my mind lol
@@FrotLopOfficial I think your response raises good points but ultimately RLS can be a very variable condition. For me, I supplement regularly with potassium, magnesium, and iron (on occasion only, since I'm a male). At this point I drink alcohol mildly 1/wk but I still have RLS occasionally. I suspect it's due to my medication, bupropion, which is itself a treatment for my depression. So you're definitely not wrong but I think it's more of a "your mileage may vary", since RLS is so poorly understood. Antihistamines, e.g. Zzzquil or Theraflu, are ABSOLUTELY a major cause of RLS on the occasion I use them due to their action on sodium channels. But for me, dietary improvements and even twice daily walks haven't eliminated my RLS though it has helped to a degree
@@FrotLopOfficiali dont drink nor smoke and eat right. I got it afte an anemic even. It does not go away. Have taken gabapentin 300mg no help. Havehad b12 shots and magnesium...its nuralogical
I don't know what your situation is but I found stretches can help. If you can find a good leg stretch routine like in a yoga video maybe that could help@@-hunter5595
I didn’t know what it was that I had up until this year when someone who has it told me it’s an actual thing. It was such a relief to know that I wasn’t the only one. I would have it very often when I was small and it didn’t come back till a year ago. I think when unknowingly my anxiety levels are up. It comes back
Mine kicked in one night so bad i bounced out of bed in the middle of the night and sprinted down the road and back for like five minutes, when i got done it gave me about 10 mins of relief. Yes it's terrible and tough to explain the feelings unless one has experienced it.
This does not occur only for people who sleep at night. I am a third shift worker who gets it in the morning upon going to bed. At night, I am not at rest so it does not bother me at night.
It confuses me that people use the word "pain" with this, its the only part that makes me wonder if its what i have, it feels like a deep tingly sensation that builds up to the point of making my leg muscles twitch, it makes me want to stomp my feet againt the ground or dig my knuckles into the tingling muscle or even into the bone to stop it, its like its impossible to get to tho
I have it in my arms as well. Its awful :( I've had it since I was a young child. It would happen every now and then but now its every night I'm now 30.
I've had since childhood, 44 now. It gets worse older you get. I get it during the day, so much I had to take my requip in the morning , evening, and night, thus it makes me sleepy!
I get it bad in my arms and chest. The best and fastest treatment I’ve found is doing push-ups, or squats if it’s in my legs. I know it might sound counter productive to exercise when you’re trying to sleep, but the feeling the driving out that nervous energy from your legs makes me fall right asleep shortly after. You don’t even need to do too many. Hope this helps everyone👍
As a kid I remember waking up at night and my legs would just be in a lot of pain I thought this was normal so I never told anyone then recently they started to hurt again but during the day this makes me worried and I’m not sure what to do
I believe my RLS is related to certain medications and possibly tied in with my fibromyalgia. RLS was never a problem for me when I was a teenager or young adult. I figured out on my own that Benadryl is a trigger as is a certain muscle relaxer. I experience an almost overwhelming urge to move my legs and arms, with the physical sensation being felt squarely in my knees and elbows.
Restless leg syndrome is torture... I feel it throughout my body not just my legs.. For me it is an immense pressure that never lessens.. If I don’t have my mirapex forget it. There will be no rest,no laying down,no sleep forget about even sitting until it decides to stop. If you can sit you are sitting there rocking your body back and forth trying very hard not to lose it..Also doesn’t help when you have arthritis, fibromyalgia, stills disease and all you wanna do is sleep but you can’t and your in immense pain..which a lot of ppl who have restless legs/limbs have as well..It can make it incredibly difficult to concentrate or think straight at all. Hold anything or try to do anything..Because if I try to use my hands for anything the pressure just builds so much you want to throw whatever is in ur hand across the room..It takes A Lot of strength and going through hell to try n get my brain elsewhere.. One of the reasons I like dramas or anime.. (other than just loving them)I have to try and fool my brain that I just need to read & concentrate on the subtitles.. Restless leg syndrome is not just sitting for a little bit maybe just moving your leg a little..It can be hours of torture of standing for who knows how long jerking your hands, arms, legs, whole body for possibly hours and hours along with the metal torture and pain unable to concentrate let alone think straight just Balling your eyes out... With ppl who think your possibly making it up or Exaggerating because it’s not like the life threatening ones and you can’t see it unless your with them when it happens..And it doesn’t only happen at night it can happen whenever it wants..Try dealing with all this for years and years and years..But yeah this is the Hell that is restless legs or as I call it restless limbs.. lol Edit: Wow when he mentioned the iron problem I’m also Anemic and get iron treatments.
@@Sleepopolis I watched it after getting over the worst episode I’ve ever experienced. I hurt my stomach and ribs and was writhing outside the er because it happened after they administered “migraine cocktail”. It was way worse than real pain, I wanted to remove my rib like god did to Adam, there’s still a muscle spasm in the spot it was pulling.. the only other thing as disturbing that I’ve experienced was getting my membrane sewn to my skull and sitting still for the washing and 18 stitches.. I can’t express how awful rls can be, it’s actual torture.
I started developing RLS in my later 20’s. Never really understood what it was until hearing an informercial about it. I’m now 34 and it has gotten worse over the years. To the point where I have cried from sleepless nights and having to go to work the very next day.
I don't know what I have... I just have pain in my legs since childhood that was always diagnosed as growing pain but it is not. I stopped growing years ago and I still have pain. It's so bad too, I need heat to relieve it or even pain meds, or else it will not go away and it keeps getting worse till I'm in tears. If nothing is done the pain will radiate from my shins to above my knees. It's also weird because sometimes it's only one leg or it's both. It also usually happens in the evening, either later in the day or while in bed. I don't think it's restless leg syndrome or shin splints (because sometimes I don't do anything all day and I have the pain). I just don't know anymore... I even sometimes get a mild version of the pain in my forearms, but it is never as painful as my legs. If anyone has any idea or goes through the same things please let me know.
I get this too and the best way I can describe it is an 'ache'. I find that if I had a particularity active day such as running or going for a long walk, the pain arises at the end of day or at night. Sometimes it can also arise if I'm in a same position for too long.
I know this is a late comment, but I have this too. And like the other comment, it also occurs after I do a lot of walking. I also get it when I don’t get much sleep. I’ve had this since childhood but have never brought it up to my parents or a doctor. I’m 22 now and am having an episode as I’m typing in both legs, all the way from my feet to my hips. Very painful.
@@sarahramos6926 yeah, right now I’m having a weird restless leg syndrome thing but in my arms and it’s making me anxious. i’m trying not to focus on it, but my anxiety is overbearing. this is the second day in a row with it
I’m 35 1/2 weeks pregnant and it is the worst! I’m so tired and irritable. I just need to get up and walk and finally I go to sleep. But it’s usually around 3am every morning. Thanks for the video!’
In my case the big muscles of both Calves and Thighs are filled with PAIN, a dreaded ache and pain that is mind numbing in its ability to keep me from sleep, every single night, it now effects me starting in the late afternoon to early evening instead of late every night. For over 45 years its been a literal nightmare, right now I'm taking Tramadol and it helps maybe 50 of the time which means not nearly enough sleep but thankfully now I'm retired and don't have to deal with the fatigue filled day at work , I figure my only peace will come when I die. Several of the Doctor's I've seen over the decades just plain didn't believe me, that's another pain in itself one should not have to deal with.
I am one of those unfortunate people who's suffering from this disorder. It is very hard and it affects me and my life a lot. My legs hurts every single night causing stress and LACK OF SLEEP. You'll never know how hard it is until you experience. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
I've had these symptoms in my left arm since I was a young child. It comes and goes and usually only happens at night or when resting. I never told doctors because it's hard to describe the sensation. I finally told a doctor and she told me I had RLS but in my arm.
I have been suffering from RLS since 11 years old. Now i am 30 years old and its pure hell now. It starts from 4.30 pm until i fall asleep which is really difficult. It's unbearable. It feels like insects are crawling inside my legs.
I have suffered from restless legs syndrome for many years, as soon as I go to bed it starts. My legs jerk violently and I get the sensation of insects crawling under my skin. I try to sleep but it is impossible, I sit on the edge of the bed and I hope it will pass. It never does. I am forced to get up because I know it will not stop. I walk about downstairs and I try to find something to take my mind off it. After a couple of hours and yet more Paracetamol I return to bed and try once more to try to get some sleep. This has gone on for over twenty-five years. I have seen doctors and specialists and I have tried herbal remedies, but none of them have helped. Many doctors don't believe in restless leg syndrome and the ones that do offer little or no help. I am now 77 years of age and in very poor health so I could do without this torture every night.
Wow, for my whole life I've struggled to sleep and have all of these symptoms, found out today (at 18) that restlessness every night wasn't just a thing I thought I had to deal with. Always thought it was because I wasn't doing 30mins of exercise every day
Im only 13 and i thaught it was just a weird version of insomnia, i hate how youre trying to fal asleep and then randomly your hand or arm will just move!
I hope this can help your issues as it did to me. I’ve been suffering from this for many many years and just recently I was told that I was vitamin D deficiency even after taking a multivitamin every day and low with magnesium; I started taking these two supplement in addition to my daily multivitamin and I can almost swear that it has cured my issue immediately after taking D3. I say almost because I think after so many years suffering from it and not sleeping well I am still having a hard time falling asleep thinking about my previous symptoms. I also started taking sunflower seeds since I saw a video stating that it may have to do with vitamin b1 and that sunflower seeds has lots of vitamin so it could also be that what cures my RLS. I started taking vitamin D3, magnesium’s and sunflowers seeds( vitamin b1) all at the same time so I’m not sure which one cured it.
I'm that weird person who changes my sleep schedule everyday, I wake up at somewhere from 5:00 AM-8:00 AM but when I wake up at 5 or so I often don't have enough time to continue sleeping and my body really just doesn't wanna sleep even though I only got 6 hours of sleep one night and stayed up for 17+ hours. I also change positions every moment I'm a literal clock minute hand in my sleep, you'll literally see me at the other end of my bed halfway falling off in the morning! And I go to sleep I'm that side position cause sleeping on my back increases my chances of sleep paralysis and I remember the last time it happened and I hate it.
Hi, I'm here for my mom. This was a great and very informative video!! I actually felt like I learned something about my mom's restlessness. I just wanted to ask though, can RLS be caused through in-take of antidepressants since they work like caffeine? Also can hyperthyroidism have a hand in this?
Hello, You asked 2 questions regarding causes with regard to anti depressants and hypothyroidism. I wondered if you were able to get those questions answered as I am also interested. If you do would you write back Thank you. Wishing and praying for your mother to be healed.
I had this ever since I was a toddler . I thought my legs were just weird so I never told anyone . I’m 17 now ....... it wakes me out my sleep and when I’m sitting down somewhere
This is sooo ironic… I’d literally stop whatever I’m doing to squat, stretch my calves, sit on the floor and stretch my legs, I’d even prop my leg up on the counter top to stretch… This is so very annoying and most of all while I’m sleeping… Sometimes it’s nonstop for about 10 mins and then it goes away, but I’m constantly stretching my legs in place by flexing my feet around in a circle or stretching my legs straight to feel a relief. I thought it was just me, I’m so glad to know that this is not abnormal. I wish you guys well, I feel your pain!! ❤️🩹
I thought i knew a lot about RLS but i learned a ton by watching this video. Im thankful that i dont suffer from this and hope i never do but now im thinking this is what has husband has. He has many of the symptoms such as the creepy crawling and pulling sensations. Going to make a docs appointment for him and see. Thanks for all of the info on this subject that probably more people have than first thought
Tip: If you have Restless Legs, AVOID BENADRYL! It can cause severe RLS symptoms that go throughout your legs, up your spine to mid-back and even into your arms!
I thought it was natural. I have this disease since I was a kid and now, I am already 19, aching not just my legs but also my arms. Anyways, I don't do any medications, I am just tying my legs or arms.
Right before bed when I’m laying down I constantly have the urge to straighten my legs arms and sometimes even my back and it doesn’t go away even after I stretch them several times and sometimes it happens to my feet I feel like I have to stretch it way further than it should be stretched, and the urge to straighten my joints never goes away!!! It’s not painful it’s just aggravating Edit: it still hasn’t stopped and now it’s happening when I’m in public
I have this and it actually helps me to sleep faster lol. Just when my legs get tired moving, I will then feel a relief and eventually fall asleep. I was born with this and I actually enjoy it. though sometimes it feels suffocating when you don't move it so I remove the sheet of my bed in order to move freely
This is really helpful..now my sister is 3years old and she gets the restless leg syndrome at anytime , and I have observed she's mostly in pain and sometimes it's painful 😣
i thought this was just a weird thing that happens to me!! now the hard part will be convincing my parents that i dont just want “attention” by telling them i think i might have this
I wish my RLS only happened at night. I have it many times throughout the day, now. Thanks to a doctor putting me on Ropinerole years ago, I’ve developed augmentation and it’s a miserable existence. I literally cannot leave home without my medicine. Where’s the help for this??
I am suffering from this disease from almost 16-17 years, tried almost everything, but hardly get relief, it worsens during summer, please suggest something that works instantly so that I can sleep better, I got frustrated with this
I've had restless legs syndrome for over 25 years... Depending on how bad you have RLS... I have found that compression hose will almost stop it in its tracks quite often. They're easy to find but quite often you need a prescription from your doctor because the hose can be expensive. I promise you it was a godsend for me at least try . Sometimes you have to layer the hose and wear one or there are 1 or 2 impossibly 3 layers depending on how bad your RLS is. It's been said to supplement your life with iron tablets is that can actually cause it as well.. It runs in my family my mother and grandmother both had it and I have to
