Every day, multiple business news channels report the movement of SENSEX and NIFTY in real time like it is the most important thing in the world.
Let’s understand this with an example, In elections, we all see opinion polls and exit polls, before the result of the election we get these polls, why does this happen?
There is a simple reason behind and that is to know where the election results are headed, but the thing every time these election polls are not accurate they can be right or wrong. They are right most of the time but, they can be wrong also, and the reason is -
If there are lakhs of voters, and the exit poll is based on the opinions of a few thousand people and using the information collected from these few thousand people and the exit poll is guessed, and few times this small sample of thousand people cannot tell the opinion of lakhs of people.
Now, the Indian Stock Market has over 7,642 companies listed on BSE and NSE, and you can’t check the price of all the 7,642 companies every day
But we want a general idea about where the market is headed, how major companies are performing, and what is the market sentiment. So basically NIFTY and SENSEX are like exit polls that try to predict where the market is headed with a small sample of companies
