Thank you so much for this information. I am a highschool drama teacher and I have a student that, for over two months had been scaping from school to skip my class. At the beginning I thought she was very irresponsible, then I met her and realized how shy she was... but then I noticed that her real issue was related to speaking... I really need to make big changes in my class to include her an make her feel comfortable, but I need to learn more about this so my class can help her.

I will be running a workshop in February 2016, entitled: How to help your child with Selective Mutism. See the www.confidentchildren.co.uk for more details. I hope to see you there!

I've been selected to fill the position as a key worker with a child that most likely have SM. I'll have about 30 mins two times a week alone with the child to do various things. Your videos have caught my interest, as I've for a while now been doing a few sounds with the child just during the school day. I'm trying to be very cautious as to how I'll go about shaping and incorporating new sounds. When will I know when the child is fully comfortable? Your ideas for activities is amazing, I'll try and incorporate several of them. How much should the child be exposed to interventions like sound making from my coworkers? Should they minimize it as much as they can?

I see that this works for younger children but my SM daughter is 13 (with VERY high anxiety) (she is in therapy almost a yr now) she will NOT make noises, say words or even let the therapist see her face. I definitely don't see this working for older children or teens, do you have any other ideas? 🤔

How can you help a young man who is 19years old. He speaks with family, but limited. He cannot express his feeling and has high levels of anxiety. He has no thoughts for his future, does not seem to want to leave his comfort zone. We are thinking of a psychoanalyst but don’t know whether he will agree.

I think my student is too old to copy. What if they don't copy the sounds when you are copying them?
