NEVER EVER I’ve seen any non-Ismaili articulating our Ismaili belief system, history, & fundamentally who we are in such a coherently accurate manner. Highly impressed & very thankful for putting this out there.
The founder of Pakistan, M.A Jinnah was born in a Ismaili family and continued to cherish his Ismaili heritage till death although he took a more non-sectarian persona to leader a population with Sunni Muslim majority. Today, Ismailis are major shareholders in the financial, philanthropic and political landscape of Pakistan.
As an Ismaili Muslim watching your video from Pakistan .. Im so thankful to you 🙏 because there are so manyyy misconceptions about our practices but seeing people knowing and understanding our religious beliefs is Worth it❤
What an amazing video i have genuinely so much to learn about the isma'ilis, as kids we'd always be given sensationalistic generalizations of different sects of Islam in order to downplay or worse ridicule and excommunicate based on their differences and this in turn breeds hate and ignorance so i commend you greatly for sharing this with all of us and hopefully this can make some heads think critically of their presuppositions.
Islam has no secrets ! Just a higher understanding . I practice the Sufi form of Islam , having a direct and personal relationship with Allah, the Great GOD ! connection
Lil ignant somali child painting Islam in a dark light so he can fit in with the rest of class. The inferiority complex some of you children have is mind-blowing. Your YT bio reads: "Im an avid Vapourwave addict and Opium enjoyer. Need i say more.... Cheers my friends. 🌬🌌💫" 😂😂🤡 You jahils are hilariously ignorant.
@khabibgt6688 Your Sunni beliefs are inherently filled with paradoxes that even a young child can notice. Muawiyah who was appointed by the third Caliph through nepotism as the governor of Syria rebelled against Ali R.A. and sought to take the caliphate as his own and turn it into a hereditary Ummayyid dynasty. Yet you claim such actions were just following the Sunnah of the prophet. How brain dead can an ideology be to commemorate BOTH sides of the conflict and claim that BOTH were righteous? Unlike you I won't claim that Sunnis are not muslim but they certainly have been led astray into commemorating the very Munafiqin which the Quran condemns. Praising the literal murderers of the Ahlul Bayt is the end result of your deviated sect.
As a 12er shii , I'm absolutely stunned by the philosophical ideas Ismail Theologists have brought to the religion. I really had no idea, unfortunately. But thanks to you, like always, I have learned many new things today. Thank you so much for your deep researches, I really can't thank you enough 🙏🏼
Shia are non-muslim. But do you bbygirl. You can lie to yourself all day and pretend to be muslim. It still won't make it true. But maybe one day you will even believe your own lie 😘
I have Ismaili family members and it just dawned on me that I'm almost totally ignorant on their core beliefs and history, I appreciate your videos as this will help me build a stronger understanding of my loved ones
@@pradeepsinghm Shane Glosnek, are you a Muslim? If you were a Muslim, you would know what Islam is and what it isn't. You would have studied Islamic history and seen how the "shia" group developed by a Judeo man named Abdallah Ibn Saba. Someone even Imam Ali himself BANNED FROM HIS PRESENCE instead of execution. Why did he ban him? Because this man formed a cult that turned Ali into a deity. His group was called Shii'at Ali. Meaning Allies of Ali. Please, next time if you have no knowledge on a matter I suggest you research it or ask questions.
I'm not a better muslim than any one of you probably. But i can assure you that what shiia did on asura days are straight devil act. Hurting yourself to bleed, even the kids couldnt escape those evil people.

Hi Mr.Flip H, eagerly waiting for the pearl of wisdom & knowledge of this Islamic fraction of people. With lots of love from a sufi student from Kerala, India.🙏
Being a Dawoodi Bohra, I'm mind blown by how well researched this video is! Normally the Ismaili's are sidelined in any discussions of Islam and Shiism inspite of our contribution to the religion. Thanks for the video!

What an epic documentary style film. Thank you so much for this. My grandfather was Ismaili and I have often been called to visit the Jamatkhana here in London; I haven’t found the peace and tranquility I have been searching for my whole life anywhere but there. There are so many misconceptions and so much misinformation about Ismailis out there. Thank you for educating us with the facts.
As an Ismaili I can reaffirm that this is the most elaborate and authentic explanation of my sect. May Allah help us all in finding the truth and living in Peace. Thank you So much ❤
I look forward to your interesting, educational and beautiful videos! I feel like I'm in college with a fabulous professor. Peace and blessings on you.

@@Asilentlearner43 As much muslim as we sunnis? Are you seriously this much of a jahil? There was no Prophet after the Rasul ﷺ . That already takes away some of the deviant groups. There are no "infallible imams" or any infallible humans after the Prophets...that already takes away the Shi'is... Out of the Shias the closest to the Sunnis are the Zaydis. The Zaydi Shia are considered to be one of the closest branches of Shia Islam to Sunni Islam in terms of beliefs and practices. This is due to several reasons, including: - The Zaydi Shia accept the first three caliphs (Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman) as legitimate leaders of the Muslim community after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and they do not consider them as usurpers or illegitimate rulers. This is similar to the Sunni belief. - The Zaydi Shia reject the concept of taqiyya (dissimulation), which is the idea that a Muslim can conceal his or her true beliefs under certain circumstances. Taqiyya is a controversial concept within Shia Islam, and the Zaydi Shia reject it, which is similar to the Sunni belief. - The Zaydi Shia place a strong emphasis on social justice and the rights of the people, which is similar to the Sunni belief. - The Zaydi Shia do not have a hierarchy of clerics like other Shia branches, and they give more importance to the community as a whole in making decisions, which is similar to the Sunni belief in the importance of the consensus of the community. However, it is important to note that the Zaydi Shia still differ from Sunni Islam in some significant ways, such as their belief in the concept of Imamah (the divinely appointed leader) and the infallibility of the imams. They also have different practices and rituals, such as their commemoration of the death of Imam Hussein (may Allah be pleased with him) during the month of Muharram. Despite these differences, the Zaydi Shia and Sunni Muslims share many beliefs and practices, and historically, they have coexisted peacefully in many parts of the Muslim world.
This channel is invaluable/ priceless ! Much thanks and gratitude to this man sharing his knowledge through this channel furthermore the perfectly unbiased way of expressing the information I highly respect.
It's interesting that my roommate is an offshoot of dawoodi bohra, and is part a small community. Again, because of a succession crisis. Your videos really help me understand this.
Thank you Filip. I have long had a sneaking admiration for Shia's. Not least as when I visit the UK, I find them so welcoming, so unlike the Tablighi Jumaat who seem to dominate most of the Masjids I am able to access. This explanation of the Isma'ilis is fascinating and much closer to the beliefs of many Sunni's living in Indonesia. You really are helping me to understand my beliefs and why I recoil from those that seem so hostile to my own.
You admire worshipping a man rather than God? You admire shunning the vast majority of Muslims and how the companions understand Islam? You admire people who consider Muslims to be disbelievers? You admire the movement that assassinated so many Muslims over the years? You admire their belief that God cannot be anything good or evil, that nothing can be attributed to Him at all including what He describes himself as in the Qur'an? You admire secrecy and the arrogance of keeping knowledge from people? You admire baselessly taking a man as an infallibly perfect being through some specific chain? Because you saw some randos to be hostile?
@@LeanOnPlants there will not be a next time, it has become too difficult and expensive to travel such distances. In fact, I gave up on visiting London even when I was still living in the UK for much the same reason. A shame as I'm sure that you are correct.

I appreciate your content as always. As someone who was raised in a Deobandi, Hanafi, fundamentalist Sunni household and community, I was never taught anything about Shiism. I appreciate your video.
@@yojan9238 I was taught more so about Ashari theology oddly enough, but now that you mention it, I think it is misleading to add Ashari here as I do not recall much of my theological knowledge I was taught in madrasah. Thanks for your comment.
Alhamdulillah I’ve been raised in a hanafi family that taught me to respect Shias aswell. Taught me to love the messengers family. I had a good friend in school from Afghanistan who was Shia. We should talk more about Allah and less about our differences.
Great as always. Love your videos, and I am an atheist. But I am always interested in learning more about people’s cultures, perspectives and philosophies. Thank you!
Fascinating. The Ismaili are present in London at South Kensington, and a more recently the serene garden and centre north of the canal at King's Cross. The movement appears to be linked to the Aga Khan
Brilliant episode, easily the best and most reliable channel that talks about religions. Could you please make an episode about Hurufism and The Bektashi order?
Thank you for your excellent presentation about Shia Ismaili ,your work will be appreciated by many who have been curious about this religion but had no idea can finnnallly understand all about the fatimids and Nizaris and the imamat

I first learned about the Isma'ilis in the context of the Hashasheen, in the book Alamut by Vladimir Bartol. This video really helped me put that knowledge into context!
@@agucci Hashasheen didn't take Hashish nor engaged in illicit relations with women in the "garden" , these are false accusations made by their enemies , the term Hashasheen comes from the Arabic "Hass" with Egyptian dialect "Hash" means " to slit" someone's throat , they were defending their women & children from hostile powers at that time , for many Sunni scholars at the time regarded them as "Infidels" while Crusades regarded them as "Heathens" & there were rivalry too between different Ismaili sects , this is why this particular Ismaili sect established it's own militia .

Im from Sunni background but i left Islam as i grew up and read lots of esoteric books. Then i found out Ismailis and i feel like i'm back to Islam again. Alhamdulillah I never knew there was a group of Muslims who believed in reincarnation. I thought Muhammad himself didnt know about the reincarnation What a shame

One of best channels especially revealing the philosophy of different schools and branches, nit only Ismaili ones. Learned a lot from this video, and as a Sunni, have more respect for Ismaili brothers and sisters. For many details, I don't see any issue why they wouldn't be integrated into any other school.
I was raised Isma'ili and this is the first time I've seen anyone ever talk about the belief system! Edit: very fascinating to learn the philosophical basis for much of the esotericism present in Isma'ili tradition. Honestly I'm disappointed in myself that I never bothered to learn why the Isma'ili community has such a deviation in practice compared to most other Muslims
We'd like a whole video like this about "zaydis"...🌹 Very educative as usual...🌹 As a student of islamic knowledge I like your channel a lot and 've been watching all your videos from the very beginning...🌹 Waiting for more... greetings from Fatimid Cairo Egypt...🌹
Very enjoyable breakdown of a complicated religious history thank you. My first introduction to living Islam was in Saudi Arabia. To hear them tell it Islam is one huge unified block from Morocco to the Philippines. 'the god that can be described is not the true god'
This channel , and Filip, is a treasure house of learning. As a devout agnostic, I am endlessly fascinated with attempts by believers to place rigorous limits on descriptions of an entity they also believe to be ineffable. One cannot describe God in any way, but incorrect descriptions are to be resisted and perhaps punished. This has always seemed odd an curiously unselfconscious for people so focused on the esoteric.
This time it’s much thought provoking and demanding more study of the Islam in esoteric depths, which will be much fascinating. Thanks is a short insufficient word to express my sincere gratitude to you Mr. Flip H, for imparting your wisdom to the seekers like me.May Allah bless you with long life with health.Love from a Indian sufi student from Kerala.

Very interesting video, but I am hoping you eventually do a video on more contemporary Twelver Shia Islam. I have seen so many videos on the initial development of Shia Islam, but I am especially curious about how Twelver Shia Islam developed after the Twelfth Imam going into occultation and the major differences between Twelver Shia Islam and Sunni Islam today.
Some narrations about what to do when Imam Mahdi is in occultation Abdullah Ibn Sinan reported that Imam Al-Sadiq said “How will you be in a situation where you neither see the guiding Imam nor any sign, so that no one is saved from this confusion except the one who recites the supplication of the one who is perishing? My father said by God, this is a test! What shall we do at that time, may my life be sacrificed for you? He (Imam Al-Sadiq) said If this happens, and you will not experience it, then hold on to what you have in your hands until the matter becomes clear to you.” [Al-Ghaibah of An-Nu’mani Page 161 Hadith 4] Muhammad Ibn Isa reported that Imam Al-Mahdi said “As for the upcoming incidents, return in it to the narrators of our sayings, for they are my proof to you and I am the proof of God to you. Abu Ja’far At-Tusi writes “The narrator’s own statement is not a proof.” [Al-Ghaibah of At-Tusi, Page 44 - 184]
This is going to be interesting. From the Islamic world, I’d also appreciate a video on Mahdavia . I think they believe the Mahdi came quite early on (901 A.H. or 1496 CE) and they’re mainly found in India nowadays. There’s very little about them online and they usually get overshadowed by the larger and more recent Ahmadiyya (which I wouldn’t mind a video on either by the way) in discussions about “mahdist” groups of Islam.
The Mahdi was born and raised in the Western world . The same Sun that shines in the East is the same Sun that shines anf sets in the West . If you Muslims are looking for the Mahdi to appear in the East , in Damascus in Syria , you will be sadly mistaken . We are in the last days of time when the Mahdi Yehoshua/ Muhammad is supposed to come before the end of the world . He has already come , but most men knew it not .
basically there are two groups musta'ali and nizari ismailis. musta'ali are now adays bohras and nizaris are now a days agha khan followers known agha kanis.
Filip, great video as always! The Ismai'ilis certainly are one of the most fascnating groups of the Islamic faith, one that I see often getting after by various other groups. The question I have though is the following - You have many times and especially in this video and topic, point out about the adoption of Neoplatonism as the basis of Theology in many Islamic Schools and Groups or at least a very Neoplatonistic aproach in Theology. This adoption/aproach is even more "total" in the case of Isma'ilis. My question is - is there a School or Group ( like the Isma'ilis) that instead of adopting a Neoplatonistic approach instead adopted an Aristotelian one, when it comes to their Theology? Thanks in advance!
@@LetsTalkReligion Οh yes of course! I watched that video of yours and it was a great intoduction! My question is if there is a "branch" of Islam that is "Aristotelian - like the Isma'ili is Neoplatonist?
@@tolisfrag9220 I don't think so! Not that I can think of. Aristotle of course influenced a lot of Islamic thinking, but there is no equivalent to the Ismaili-Neoplatonism relationship.
@@LetsTalkReligion Thanks a lot for the answer! I have a follow up question though - is there a reason that such a thing didn't happen? A robust and widely accepted Islamic Theology based in Aristotelian philosophy?
@@tolisfrag9220 I wonder if the logic of Aristotle does not lend itself better to Christian theology as it has a more immanent bent, and was thus adopted by the Scholastics, whereas Platonism is more compatible with a doctrine of pure transcendence as is indicated by Tawhid.
This is just fantastic. I was never a Muslim and had many Muslim friends. Ismail, Sunni, and Shia. What surprised me is one of my Muslim friends telling me not to talk to some Ismail's friends. The core shia-sunni debate is not over political authority (this is what sunni islam puts forward as the main issue). The core debate is over the concept of "Imam" and his social and spritual role.
Not very surprising. Neo-platonic literature was abundant in Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age & Gnostic religions like Mandaeism still had a large following back then, especially in Iraq.
I did read both shia and sunni's books ... It is similar in most of it but historical diffrences i found the truth in shia but still respect and love sunna
Thank you for giving us an overview on ismaili'sm. As a twelver i would like to just say: 'Alhamdulillah' - that i follow true imams and not who follow their desires(ahwa). Any 3rd party person can read sayings of 12 imams of twelvers and of ismaili imams and do the comparison to know which imams were(is) on Haq(righteous)
Thank you very much for your opinion, however 12vers sources & even Historical sources say that Imam Ismail a,s was designated by Imam Jafar through Nass. Looking things from 3rd person, All Imami Shia's main claims is that Muslims couldn't be left without Hidayat and on fallible people and that is why the office of Imamat was required and it's a blessings on human kind, however Sunnis have rejected the concept of Imamat and continued their religious learning from Ulimas, 12vers accused Sunnis not to have any infallible guide and now after 250yrs right after the Prophet pbuh dead are also led by fallible Ulimas whereas you still believe that still lot more to be learn and inquire and still we need a infallible guide I am sure any logical person may either agree with Sunnis stance where they totally reject the Imamat concept and believe that yes we are left alone and we have to extract the guidance from our Ulima or by Nizari Ismailis where Shukar Moula Imam has continued till yet and as per our Aqeeda it will continue till end of day! I rally don't think this vlog was was draw the compression but to explain "Who are Ismailis" but since you draw that compression I had to explain our stance also. However I am happy that you find peace in your Tariqa and I am blessed that I find the same peace from mine. Let's follow our paths and let Allah's decide whos path is right or wrong. JazakAllah
and Yes, how could I forget not only Hidayat [which is surly a primary task/role of an Imam] he has many many roles to play like for example accepting Zakat / ensuring the Unity of Commend/ be the Hujja of Allah's on earth / a Authority to fix the dispute / Purify the believers / Given Prayers to believers and many many more. JazakAllah Akhi
