The communications receiver is the best shortwave receiver that has ever been made.

I have a follow up to my previous comment. I have received amateur radio transmission ranging from 7275 to 7295, without using anything but the factory antenna that is built into the radio and just pointing it into the direction of the broadcast to get the best reception.

Utility Stations are mostly in USB mode, even below 10MHz. LSB / USB is only a convention. 👍

Earphones or headphones are nice to have for private listening, but the receiver in the video has a speaker. But somewthin inexpensive at a dollar store.

In parts of this video a Zoom H2n Recorder is attached to have a better quality recording, and the Radios used in these Channel (Tecsun PL-880 and S-2000) have excellent speakers, so only if "the family is sleeping" 😉 are headphones needed.

10:20 Greetings from Italy ! Yes, definitely Italians, probably from Marche / Abruzzo (Central Italy) because of the accent, however I can understand only a few of the distorted words. With more time I might try to listen to them and see if I can identify something solid, however they are talking about some daily anecdote (someone buying a car at 28 yo?) and laughing about it

Thanks for the confirmation! 👍 Grazie Mille! 😁 We usually have very strong signals from Italy .. as we are actually neighbours.

@@compasseleven May I ask you if you made a pdf or other shareable document of that nice table related to frequency, time of day and kind of listening you showed and mentioned in your video? I also had another question when I watched the video earlier yesterday night but at the moment I forgot it

There is a link to the Excel under the Description for Part 4. There is the whole table.

Question: as a rule of the thumb (not written on stone yet as a starting point as USB/LSB) , might be correct saying that at dawn in Austria (and Italy or wherever else) it's easier to listen to lower frequencies trasmitting from a westerner point and higher frequencies from East and at dusk it's the opposite?
@compasseleven
@compasseleven 8 месяцев назад
I can only share my experiences from central Europe - Austria: I usually receive very good signals on all frequencies from all directions (Europe, Asia sometimes Africa) but nothing from America e.g.

Second question: I understood the first couple of digits shown on the top right part of the radio lcd display is the strength of the incoming signal and the higher the better, I'm not sure about the second couple of digits. Is it the NOISE ( = the lower the better ) or the signal after filter (the higher the better?)
@compasseleven
@compasseleven 8 месяцев назад
The SNR is the difference between the received radio signal and the background noise. So, the higher, the better.

The Morse Expert App... is this an add-on to your radio or is it on your cell phone? Also, is there an app to interpret other languages?
@compasseleven
@compasseleven 3 месяца назад
Some radios may be equipped with a morse code reader and/or oder decoders, my receivers do not have it, so I use an App on my smartphone. This is free, and supports multiple formats: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ve3nea.morse_expert

So if my radio doesn't handle lsb/usb modes that means I will not listen to any numbers or buzzers?
@compasseleven
@compasseleven 7 месяцев назад
You can listen depending on the Mode these Stations use to encode the signal. You will find Number Station broadcasting in normal AM Mode, these you can listen without SSB. Check priyom.org/ for the Scheduling.
