What is Single Grain Scotch - Dewar's 12 yr Blended Scotch 

I started drinking whisky when I was about 25. The only ones I could affort were blends like Chivas, Dimple, Mansion House, Ballantines, I am 54 now and stil can enjoy a good blend, nothing wrong with it

When you start making blends of your own (in a glass or a bottle), you begin to respect the word more. I love having a range of whiskeys on the shelf and pouring what I call a 3,2,1 blend. I start with 3 parts (half the amount I want in my glass), cheap bourbon (Evan Williams, Old Grandad, Mellow Corn...). Then, I'll add 2 parts of something fruity, either sherry finished or like the green apple in Irish whiskey. And finish it off with 1 part heavy scotch, peaty, briny, smoky or all three! Then I'll let it sit for 5 minutes and it's usually pretty good!

As in an earlier comment, I have recently purchased two bottles of Ivergordon Single Grain. The 14 yr and the 18 yr. Had them at a tasting and was very impressed. To all Single Malt drinkers I highly recommend them!

I have a 50 yr Single Grain Scotch. Bought it for my birthday. It's very sweet.

Hi Daniel, I would recommend Loch Lomond single grain for around £28 (UK). It's a wonderful dram.

Total wine has been pushing invergordon single grain. And my local festival had a Scotch group come in with a 31yr old single grain for sampling. As far as blends though I demonstrated the effect of blending by using the new make comparison set crowded barrel made.

I started drinking scotch in the mid 1970's. My go to scotch was Dewars white label and water. Now, If I drink a blended scotch, it's going to be Dewars 12 or 15 yr. Basically, I learned to drink scotch on Dewars and still enjoy it today, albeit not the white label.

Thompson Brothers (Dornoch Distillery) and Ardamurchan are producing very good blends.

Total Wine stores have started carrying the Invergordon line of Single Grain scotch and it’s very readily available. Cheers!

Love me some Dewars 12! I used to be a Johnnie Double black guy, but when I did a side by side A to B comparison, Dewars 12 won handily no contest! Imho beats Johnnie 12 as well on both taste and value!

As far as single grain scotch i do enjoy label 5 single grain aged in bourbon cask but its harder to find lately

Smokey Joe is a nice peated blend.

Johnny Walker is one of THE most famous blending brands.

I have a Single Cask Nation 34yr old Invergordon Single Grain whisky here that would beg to differ that single grain tastes cheaper. 😋

Single grain is easy, it means the entire bottle of whisky is made from a single grain of rice. Done, 12 minutes and 30 seconds faster.

Nothing wrong with blended whiskeys.

Why is it called single when it is made with multiple grains??....???
