What is Spelljammer in D&D?

"Very Treasure Planet" is how i have described it in the past

A D&D Setting that not only takes place in space without removing the fantasy elements of D&D, but also connects other D&D Settings like the Forgotten Realms, Ebberon, Exandria, Dragonlance and others is really cool in my opinion. I'm curious to see how they pull it off.

Our DM has introduced this to the next ‘stage’ of our campaign and it is going amazingly well!

My party and I have an agreement that each of us rotate the DM position so nobody gets stuck as the Forever Dm. We all make different worlds most of the time… *NOW WE CAN MAKE AN EXTENDED UNIVERSE*

Now imagine combining spelljammer and planscapes concepts Not only exploring infinite differing planes, but the vast space of said planes I now have an idea for a campaign that'll either take forever to make or a lot of "random bullshit go" improv

This might be what brings me to finally try dnd

I had the Adnd spell jammer box set years ago and I used it in my DND campaigns in my world when I was using the 3.5 Ed books

Was planning on making comic series with elements of d&d with one of the MCs thinking he has a hyper velocity ability but is actually the ability to not just travel across space but to different planes so this kinda helps

Excited to see how they updated it for the current edition. I really really really wish they would update and bring back the Dark Sun's world of Athas. That was one of my favorite settings.

As an absolute nerd for Eberron, please be aware, Eberron is not accounted for within the Spelljammer (or Great Wheel) cosmology as it's dragon creator gods sought to keep it separate from the greater Multiverse via a magical barrier. Even going as so far as to give it it's own minor planes to handle certain things (like it's own plane of the dead). This is known as the Great Orrery!

Spelljammer is so cool because you can directly link homebrew worlds to the forgotten realms nomatter what, so you can make any 1shot cannon.

I love that this is going to be a thing in 5e. I am the current DM of my group and I have plans of massive proportions. In my plans, I have purchased the D&D Magic The Gatherning books, bookmarked the page for the Forgotten Realms Campaign with Magic, and have looked at different 5e conversions for different settings (Mainly Star Wars and Mass Effect). Spelljammer is the last piece of the puzzle needed to make a fully exploreable Multiverse.

Reminds me of the book series Death Gate Cycle. Was amazing. Written by an elderly couple i think 20+ years ago. Had this type of fantasy travel.

I have never played D&D but I read a lot of the Dragonlance and Salvatore books but my favorite series was Spelljamer and I played the video game back in the day. I might just pick up the book and get back on my Hammership to cruise the spheres.

And how does the loss of that faith (or fear in some cases) affect their godhood? Can a god go so far in obscurity to the point of losing godhood?
