Yeah, I’m up here north east of you in the same hypocrite belt. You’ve got to add in a pad, accessories, thermostat, sheet metal shroud, duct adapters, flex connectors, whip, misc. There’s no way that I would do that changeout for that price. Besides, my Am Std is $300 more. These guys around here will buy $3000 worth of wheels to put on their $80,000 jacked up four-wheel-drive truck, to pull their $80,000 bass boat, but they’ll throw 11 SEER window bangers in a single wide mobile home. Lets start with government regulations requiring higher SEERs. Then add in cost of insurance, vehicles, tools, materials and every other thing that is required to bring that tech to your house. Then you talk about record profits, but its the same or lesser percentage. If you make 10% on $4000 and 10% on 8, your profits have increased, but not margins. BTW, if you net 10% as a company after everything is paid, you are a top achiever. Alot of contractors net 4-8%. People need to realize that if you use a reputable contractor, there are alot of costs. IF you use Floyd from craigslist, it might work, it might not, but Floyd wont be there in 3 years to take care of you because he has already went broke.

I got quoted 15k in Texas. I don't remember the ton or the seer, but my house is 2k sqft and I have no gas. My unit is 18 years old. HVAC companies are running scams. Offering to check your unit and clean for free, even add refrigerant, but they get to your house to upsale you crap that not needed, or in the case with my father, they broke something and tried to say it had gone bad. My dad smelt something burning and reported to the company manager, admitting they caused the damage. I effing dispose HVAC techs almost as much as lawyers and politicians

Agree. In some cases I have had HVAC "techs" who didn't seem to understand what they were doing. In one case an older guy they sent out had trouble using his DMM - I showed him he had the probes inserted into the high amp current socket instead of volts, ohms, etc. In another case he added refrigerant and caused the unit to malfunction later that day. Next day he came out with another tech and they argued about how much refrigerant to take out. Not the best experience.

This doesn't make sense, since the price of everything has to be based upon the price of minimum wage. As minimum wage went up, the cost of every worker beyond the minimum wage employee had to go up in lock step. Your fuel is higher priced too, so everyone's fuel had to go up too. We also pay for additional regulations that did not exist before. All of their costs skyrocketed, so they have no choice but to pass those on to the customer; otherwise they would go belly up. "Corporate greed" is the easy choice and it is also the most myopic choice.

However, shortly after, I looked up and found a vendor that sells the entire kit which includes: the same 3.5 ton condenser, matching air handler, 24lbs bottle of 410a, 3/8s copper and 3/4 all together for $3,900 before install. Furthermore, whenever I call around to get install quotes, everyone basically tries to quote me on their own units because they don’t want to warranty something that they don’t sell. So I’m back to square 1.😑

I would have to say it's a mixture of multiple reasons. This administrations policies have closed down metal factories and oil production driving up the cost of everything. Anyone can see this at the recycling place when they start paying more for metal. We are also dealing with heavy inflation in a recession. Fuel prices were hitting all time highs having a huge affect on shipping equipment and parts. On top of those issues the EPA is pushing 410A to the way side driving the cost up. We need less government.
@Khn83
@Khn83 Год назад
This comment is spot on… I work in HVAC wholesale and I can attest that rising costs aren’t just because of corporate greed. The cost of doing business has gone up significantly in the last 3 years.
@dawildcatz87
@dawildcatz87 Год назад
@@Khn83 yeah I don't believe corporate greed is having a large affect like those issues are. Heck more corporations right now are just trying to stay a float. If we could get rid of the EPA we could start passing up China again who doesn't have any form of EPA and maybe bring manufacturing back from Mexico who also doesn't have an EPA.

Your political agenda is moot. Steel manufacturing plants were closed in response to COVID-19 from June 2020. Tariffs, trade wars, and shutdowns greatly impacted steel imports. As a result of shutdowns in major manufacturing plants, there was a short period of reduced demand for steel. Due to prevailing events, budget cuts, and working conditions, there was a reduction in the number of steelworkers available in the industry. Inventory levels in warehouses started to go down because there was no additional supply of raw materials. The inventory level continued to go down and hit an all-time low. Mines were closed down or affected by the pandemic, putting a strain on the supply of raw materials. Some mills fell victim to cyberattacks or faced frequent strikes amongst the workers.

Also I feel like these companies all hired one of those people that says yeah well you can double your price and people will still buy and now we're here. It'll never change because if it does then the company won't make as much money as the previous year and when that happens companies shut down.
