I hope new players find this video help!

you should do a similar video but with suggestions which player card expansions you should buy first? (assuming you dont just buy the player cards for the campaign you play)

I really appreciate that you took into consideration how new players will be referencing rules, and that it impacts which scenarios will be enjoyable. I'm just learning this game, and it is more complex than any other Arkham Horror themed game I have played/owned. Great video!

I’m getting back into it too… it feels like starting new because I only played once through the core and half of Dunwich over a year ago. Fun fun

Another reason Forgotten Age is bad as a first campaign is that it turns a number of established things on their heads. The main thing is that the campaign often punishes you for killing enemies via the Vengeance (and Yig's Fury) mechanic. I mean, there are still things that definitely need killing, but if you kill everything things will get bad for you. And while that's a cool twist when you've played a "regular" campaign or two, it's probably not a great first meeting with the game.

I'm glad you mentioned the 2 player spike for EotE. When it came up green, I was like WTH. Only played it with 2 players and IMO its a HARD campaign. A lot of random things can screw you with 2 people. Also, Innsmouth is only easy if you dont care for the perfect/secret ending. If you want to do that, it's probably the hardest campaign IMO. to this day I did not manage that with 2 players.

I'm so glad you guys do this. This is my standard process for any game I'm enjoying: play and have fun for a few months then binge any content I can find on optimization. Lately I've found myself playing more niche/smaller games and it can be a struggle to find quality content. Keep up the great work

Hey guys! Ive just gotten into this game and ive been binging your videos the past few days. Loved the tier list videos and the beginner guide deck. I got some buddies interested too, so this vid is perfect. We were really stuck on which campaign to start. Looking like its gonna be edge of the earth. Cheers!

I played Carcosa very late (after Dunwich, TFA, TCU, and Dream) and I think it ruined the first play because I saw the glaring weaknesses of the campaign structure compared to newer campaigns. However, when I replayed it, I really felt the beauty of the story and enjoyed it far, far more in general. So I think it's a perfect 2nd campaign and a solid 1st campaign choice. As a recommendation for this series: how about which investigators are good new player picks from each cycle? I imagine someone like Luke Robinson is a hard red because of the endless rule lookups, while Zoey is extremely green due to the simplicity of her rules.

My friends and I are about to start scenario 4 of the Innsmouth Conspiracy (blind play through) tomorrow, and glad to see it get double-green...it's *felt* easy, but fun, thus far. Really great video, even though it's a year old!

I did the campaigns in order, just to get that experience. NotZ is a fine introduction, with the first scenario you get a very well balanced idea of what the game mechanics are. With the second you get how the mechanics can be twisted into a more challenging scenario, and you don't exactly have to win. The third is a little dry, and fairly difficult to pass. That demonstrates the brutality of the game. Dunwich is just the natural extension. The first "full length" campaign, some great and memorable moments, like the speakeasy, and the train. As I was playing it, it dawned on me just what a neat game it was and the possibility for story telling. I've liked Carcosa the best, so far, haven't played keys yet, and if you were only buying one expansion Id say to get that one, but I think its worth building up to it

This might be a hot take, but I've been tutoring a few new friends with The Circle Undone lately. One of the reasons why I do this is because it has a Prologue. In it I can focus on teaching the general gameplay loop first, then deckbuilding and characters later. Starting with the prebuilt tiny hands, no decks, only 1 Act, a clear objective, relatively short, and having a throwaway character that the Prologue outright gives you takes a lot of the mental load off beginners. It also slightly trains players to beware of the Mythos phase even though sometimes its not actually that scary, and about Treacheries and how to deal with them. After that I can assess how much strain it was on the players and either end up playing another Campaign or continuing with TCU. I agree it can be a hard campaign but I usually end up playing a support role and giving the wheel to the new player(s) so that they can feel the Horror part in Arkham Horror. I will concur in that if it's the first campaign for every player in the table it will be really hard to recommend, though. At least someone has to have a grasp on the game cycle otherwise it's a lot to take in.

This is a big help! I’m going green until I go through those, first. One question I have is are any of the Return to boxes for these ‘green’ games going to fit into this progression. Also, I’d love a version of this for campaign “stories”

🐱!!! So cute. I recently bought the old core, four investigator dekcs, and the entire path to Carcosa cycle (old format) because of a good deal, but this has me wondering if I should also invest in the Dunwich campaign expansion to play before I go to Carcosa.

Idk I think the dream side of dream eater is VERY hard. I see what you are saying about Innsmouth but that campaign hits you with 4 unforgiving scenarios to start with and then the last 4 are very easy so it’s really weird. I also wonder how much your opinions shift depending on what player cards someone new is buying. Like if for some reason a new player didn’t care to get player cards that match the campaign.

For someone who just has a revised core set, would you still think that 2-3 starter decks are better than for example the whole Dunwich Investigator Expansion?
@MattCrawley_Music

The game is all about the campaigns. The core set is just a tutorial. If you're just replaying the core set again and again then you aren't experiencing the actual game

An in depth discussion video for the “stoplight series” of characters you’d flag for a “go ahead” with certain archetypes would be interesting, but the card pool’s pretty great/big now so you could do almost anything with anyone I guess so ignore all of that maybe probably. Ope.
