Nice tips. For me I follow few combos: Beer-Salad/Nachos/Popcorn/peanuts, Whiskey- peanuts/cashew/chicken starter, Wine - salad/cheese/fish starter. And like you said, always wise to know how strong the drink is to balance with lot of water. I also heard somewhere that having curd a little ahead of drinking helps too.

My favourite is "cheese-cherry-pineapple" and anything spicy-veg. I am able to make out whiskey notes best in 2nd peg.

My favourite home made and healthy Chakhna items which i have regularly on rotational basis every weekend are: 1. Sprouts with finely chopped veggies 2. Fruit chaat 3. Boiled Sweet corn topped with lemon juice and chat masala 4. Vegetable salad with diced paneer or tofu 5. Roasted papad with finely chopped veggies and mint chutney on top 6. Freshly roasted makhana with little desi ghee and salt n pepper 7. Low fat, diet popcorn by ACT II 8. Boiled egg whites with either chopped tomato+onion or black pepper

Thai Guava with little salt and chat masala is one good option with whiskey. It is a coolant and improves metabolism which helps digest Junk.

my combination In case of.whisky 1.Boiled chanay mixed with.tomato, lemon and green chili.....with.this combination i hardly.have hangover...may be chana combination have power to overcome.the.alchol side effect... 2.Kheera and pyaaz salad In case of Beer 1. Amit Khajuria totally depends on what you’ve had prior to drinking, how quickly you get high (what type of alcohol your body digests faster). There’s a tonne of factors which depends on intoxication. Usually you can’t equate two kinds of alcohol.

My choices with whisky: either of these 1) roasted Cashews (bit over roasted) 2) Chicken lollipop or wings, or just roasted chicken 3) Soya chap (dry masala) if eating with vegans. 4) simple dry tawa chicken with lots of adrak/garlic/pepper. 5) haldiram pudina chips, easiest available. 5) thin crust pizza with beer.. Anybody for masala papad ?

Try vanilla ice cream with vanilla, oak flavored whisky. Rule of thumb is to match the flavor with the food for example if you taste dark chocolate in whisky have a small piece of that. Like you said whisky commands attention of its own and doesnt need anything else to complment its true flavor.

Chakna kuch bhi ho, chopped Cucumber, Carrot, Tomato, Onion bina namak masala helps a lot. In whisky I use Lemon squeeze. It helps I think.

I think its our Indian thing to eat fried chicken, or thikka and drink heavily. Also I have never met anyone in India who drinks Whisky without ice and soda. Its ok to use a splash of soda water but not in excess. When its beer it feels good to drink with salty and spicy snacks - also cheap whisky or vodka/gin one can do the same because they are generally tall drinks. But people who drink expensive wine and expensive whisky you are drinking to enjoy the quality and the long years that have gone into it. Connoisseurs generally eat neutral snacks between tastings like Oat Cakes or even toast. Never do you eat heavily. Maybe some nuts. I also know people while drinking expensive scotch, eat some dark chocolate or even smoked salmon to "compliment" the great quality of the whisky.
