Great review Rob! I love Glengoyne whiskies and I agree with you I find the 18yr tastier than the 21yr. I purchased a 25yr old recently and oh man it is DELICIOUS. I almost wish it wasn’t this good as now I must go out and buy some more. I haven’t had the privilege of having the 30yr yet, but hopefully I will find a decently priced bottle soon.
I really like the family run down format! Well done video, great comments, good rank order concept. Well done, Rob! I was shopping for a bottle of Glengoyne and trying to decide between the 12 and 15. You helped me decide on the 12 and save some money. Where are you based in CA?
Fully agree that the 18 is superior to the 21. Haven't had the opportunity to sample the 25 or 30 - but the 18 is my personal favorite Scotch whiskey to date.
great review Rob. Recently my wife and I had a whisky night and compared around a dozen or so sherried malts. Our conclusions are the same as yours. 18,12,then 15. The 12 was very close to the 18 and I love the coconut and banana notes that I haven't got anywhere else.
Hi Rob. I always enjoy watching your reviews, but this was truly exceptional. I still have an unopened bottle of a discontinued 17yo Glengoyne. I’m also planing to buy a 25yo in the near future. Cheers buddy.
Whisky In The 6 I have 12 and Cask Strength, but just ordered myself 15, 18 and 21 😂 mainly because it is good value for such an old whisky (and beautiful packaging)... I’m actually re-assured by your saying it is oaky (too many older whiskies don’t taste old... more active casks would give more Oak influence over time, so I am looking forward to that!)
Dylan Northrup there’s a ton of great reviewers that prefer the 21 over the 25. There’s no wrong answer. It’s all preference my friend. All great choices.
Whisky In The 6 I don’t have many old single malts in my collection, so I’ll be excited to try Glengoyne 21 and also Glenfarclas 21 (both fair priced where I found them). I loved my sample tasting of Highland Park 21, but could never justify $480
Great video and review Rob. I was considering purchasing the 21 but not too fond the the excessive oaky finish that you described. Opening the 18 soon so looking forward to it.
I love the 25 yo, we finished that bottle quickly - but fortunately, I have another still unopened! I agree it is, for me, one of the very best in this style. Also have a second bottle of the 21 as yet unopened. Odd I missed the 18 - so thanks to this review I will have to go find it! That 30 yo sounds amazing - its a bit beyond my price point unfortunately. Thanks again for your work.
I have only had the 10 some four years ago, and was not impressed... Glengoyne is rather scarce in my locality... I have a lot of Glengoyne tasting to do!
I got the 12 after you mentioned in another video that it was your absolute favorite 12y scotch. I found it to be extraordinarily unremarkable, really very little on the nose/palate. Has the quality dropped off in the years since you’ve done these videos?
I can find the 18, its 170 USD. For 170 I could get Old Pulteny 21, COMPASS BOX PHENOMENOLOGY, SPRINGBANK 18, current OCTOMORE or AncNoc 22. What to buy?
@@WhiskyInThe6 Massive peat fan but I like all kinds of scotch, thanks for the video and the suggestion. It would be cool if you would check out my best whiskies of 2018. Cheers!
Nice review. I only have the 10 and 12 but I should be trying others at the distillery tour next month. Hoping to pick up a teapot dram while I am there.
IMHO the Glengoyne 10 is the best value of the lot. The 12 year is second in my book. Forget the rest. The 18+ are too cask forward and woody for my taste.
Very late to the party here in the comments. If you take price/value into account it is hard to beat the Legacy Chapter 1. Still around if you look it's 48% NCF goodness.
Aha ! u don't have the 2006 GGoyne-12 yo 57.2% (yes, AGE stated !) cask strength with Her Majesty' emblem BEFORE that duck/geese emblem on the bottle, AND, AND, AND the Goyn-12 all sherry with the 3-barley branch emblem 43% ... so, how will I barter: 2 dram of mine to 1 dram of your 30 yo ??? or bring them to the Toronto Whisk Soc. ???
lol... I actually split the Goyne 30 with someone so I don't have it anymore. That 12 year sounds incredible though. I think I may have to join TWS eventually.
Rob your breaking my heart.... lol I still havnt found a bottle of that G&M balblair to try for myself... pretty sad I think its a goner. Love this video format tho bud keep it up!
